Canadian Olympic thread

Certainly enjoying the Olympics this year. Not able to watch quite as much as I would like.

Will miss the last four days of the Olympics. BOOHOO! I wonder how much we will be able to see at "DW" and if we will see anything Canadian???

I feel so bad for Mellisa Hollingsworth - bad enough to be disappointed in yourself for not doing well, but to also feel that you let down the whole country must be overwhelming.

It's been a lean couple of days medalwise for us but we've finally broke the double digit mark tonight.

Congrats to Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir on the their gold medal performance in ice dancing.

We watch most of the sports and were thrilled last night when the ice dance pairs won gold!!!!!!!. It was awesome winning gold in mens skeleton!!!!! Im glad they have added all the newer x games type sports to the games great for spectators.
Oh yes our mens hockey team, they analize the team and games to death i think it boils down to who has the hot goalie in a one game playoff.
We have trip to disney in 2 weeks i need the hockey both womens and mens to win so i can go there and say we canada rules hockey!!!!!

That is so true. In the last two games, the opposition goalies have been outstanding. Canada is averaging around 45 shots per game; they are not playing poorly.

Since everyone thought Canada would beat Germany which did happen that means they are playing Russia in the Quater Finals tomorrow night.

Awww, you mean my wife will want to have the TV to herself again tomorrow? Gee, I was hoping to catch up with my soaps.

Just kidding. The game was great! I just hope that the Canadian team learned more about teamwork tonight so that they are better prepared to take on the Russian team tomorrow. It should be an interesting game with Crosby playng against Ovechkin with that old rivalry.

Plus since everyone talked about them playing each other for the gold medal, after tomorrow night one country who was one of the favorties won't be playing for any medals. So hopefully that unwanted will go to Russia.

What a night for Canada. They beat Russia 7-3 in Mens Ice Hockey and will play either Sweeden or Slovakia in the Semi Finals on Friday. Besides that they won Gold and Silver in the women's bobsled, they won Silver in the women's 3,000m relay and Clara Hughes wins a Bronze Medal in the women's 5,000 meter speed skating.

The Canadian women rocked the podium today!! And for all those skeptics out there (this is directed mainly at the Canadian media ...) we're now tied for the most gold medals ... is that good enough for ya?!

I suppose I am (as a Canadian) supposed to feel insulted, but all that I could do was laugh as I read this article.

He does seem a tad bitter about life doesn't he.

Here is an interesting response published in The Province.

Pravda rubbish

By Anastassia Shinder, The Province February 24, 2010

As a Russian-Canadian I was upset by the very critical reprint from Pravda. ru. This is hardly more than a relic with a meagre readership of hardcore communists and Stalinists.

Further, Timothy Bancroft-Hinchey is British songwriter who decided to try his hand at journalism -- he cannot speak for Russians. Incidentally, most of his articles exhibit enmity towards North America and Israel.

Ironically, people in Russia probably aren't even aware that they have insulted Canadians because the article is only available in an online English edition of Pravda. ru. I was offended twice; as a Canadian and as a Russian.

Publishing this article is highly regrettable, especially since Russian athletes and most news outlets have nothing but praise for Canadians and this country.
