Canadian Magic ~ June 10, 2012

per her post on the FB page - Linda SeaULater is not sailing - I removed her from the FE list...sorry for the late notice, she didn't PM me...I found the post accidently

Cayla

FE Participants,

Since Linda won't be participating in the FE, would it be OK with eveyone if we add Chiefos (and his DW dleem63) to our FE list? I know some of us on the Facebook page have already done so.

He is on the list as a late addition, if everyone agrees I will simply move him into the primary list. So, to make this easy - only post ir PM if you object!

Great idea Ellen!!! I love it!!

I would just like to clarify something in response to a PM I received. We are NOT selling these lanyards. They are a free gift to any who sign up. The contribution we are asking for is just that...a voluntary contribution to say you are part of the lanyard support team.

This has been the practice for many cruises and done by many people. I do not want anyone to feel that we are trying to extort and coerce anyone. The lanyard originator (in this case Michael) usually takes a bath in the costs. There are minimum number of lanyards to purchase, and the cost of printing all the name tags as well as a set up charge for a custom lanyard to consider.

If my syntax has led to any confusion regarding this, my apologies - this is all meant to be a fun process and to provide each of us with a cute and useful way to remember the cruise.

I am sure that the moderators would have sent me a message if they felt I was trying to sell something (against the rules of the Dis!) on these boards, I have not received any such notice or PM...so please understand Michael chose to take on the lanyard production knowing that he was going to spend the money. He enjoys seeing other people have fun with what he gives away. So please - thank him, wear the lanyard and have a great cruise!!!!

Cayla

If we miss you at the Meet N Greet - we are always deck 10 Starboard at sailaway - our tradition!!

See you onboard!

Just to comment on this... I was a little uncomfortable with this situation, but I'm one to say, "if you don't feel comfortable with it, don't participate" and not make waves where none are needed. I just chose not to participate. However, I think where my discomfort came from, is the "paypal $25 to him". If it's truly a gift, then just asking people to contribute whatever they feel like contributing might be a more palatable option.

Not flaming anyone. I think the lanyards look great and I think it's amazing that he does this. I just wanted to give some feedback where the questions might be coming from for future reference. :).

thank you for the observations...this is why I wrote the explaination - I have been doing these posts between unpacking, laundry, working 12 hr days every day between the two cruises...so the syntax was a bit rough. As I said - my apologies for any confusion. The only reason for the amount was so that he could get some idea of how to defray the costs evenly. Some give more some less - as you said - it is a contribution NOT a payment.

Some more feedback: One of the reasons I chose not to participate is that I don't have a Paypal account and don't choose to open one.

I understand. DCL now has a restriction of no cash changing hands onboard so that is not an option. On the Hawaii cruise, folks that were setting up events and activities that required payment had to have all the payments cleared before the ship sailed. DCL actually called folks to tell them if they discovered cash changing hands they would shut the event or activity down. The mens' poker game ended up being cancelled I think because of this, women who were unable or unwilling to pay via PayPal and didn't get checks to EllaEnchanted in time were not allowed to attend the Champagne Girls get together. The scrapbooking class had the same issue as did the jewelry making class. DCL reads all these boards and closely watches the content of what is happening and who is doing what.

Wondering why there were so many complaints posted ( in the Hawaii threads) about not having enough to do? :confused3

Funny, there were so many things going on we couldn't do everything we wanted (and that doesn't include the extra Dis events, some of those we had to miss as well).

We thought DCL did a great job having many extra hawaiian themed activities.

Guess it's different for different folks. :confused3

my only observation (not an objection) was that they crammed a lot into the first set of sea days, then less at the end...however...it let us all relax and just enjoy each others company! Overall -very happy with DCL and what they did. Outside vendors...no rental pick up at Oahu port was a PITA...

you obviously know how to party!!!! :cool1:
Longer cruises with close to 10 sea days you can do alot.. ;) we had a wine tasting event in the Roy for oh 150..... came back from dinner and it was like it never happened.
