hello DVC experts,

I am looking at buying a DVC because of how strong the Canadian dollar is doing right now.

Because i live in Alberta the only way i could get a DVC though Disney would be wait until our trip in December. However it doesn't make sense to spend 3 or 4k on a trip just to hear about a DVC so i have an option to buy into it. Does Disney offer any incentives to people who just dropped 4k on a trip or should i be looking at buying through a reseller like the timeshare store or ***********?

Does anyone have pro's or cons about the two company's i have listed above?

If there is anything i have forgotten to ask and anyone has suggestions i am very open to comments or suggestions..

Thanks All,

Have a Great Disney day!

I am right here celebrating the dollar with you! A big reason why I chose to buy DVC right now.

The 'incentives' that would be offered to you at Disney, would likely only be if you were interested in AKV or SSR (developer points etc). I myself, couldn't justify paying for another WDW trip and wait to buy direct from Disney for two reasons. One, if I'm going to start getting the benefit of my points, I want to do it right now -- I consider the 3K or so going towards the price of my contract instead of disappearing into thin air. Two, I have the patience to deal with the ROFR process (most of the time) and wanted to buy a sold-out resort for a much better price than Disney could offer me.

Do you know what resort you want to purchase yet? That is probably one of the biggest decisions, and the one that held me up a bit. I could figure out how many points I wanted by matching my travel habits and the point charts for my preferred resort. Look at a thread for the "pros and cons of resale" and decide if resale is the right route for you. If so, I would search for the contract you want (at more than one reseller) as inventory can be limited and you'll certainly want a certain amount of points and possibly a certain use year (you may want to wait to find something loaded with points as well). Definitely put your name in with a few realtors. You'll often get notification before their website is even updated. That small lead time can make a difference in getting a great contract.

Timeshare store is highly recommended, and I've been happy thus far with GMAC though I haven't closed yet.

Good luck!

I purchased through the Time Share Store and was very happy. Given the reduced price I paid, not to mention that I could buy fewer points, I paid much less even if I had gotten developer points. It isn't as immediate as buying through Disney and it is easier to arrange your own financing if you need it.

if you mean this december, it may be too late to find a DVC room even if you buy in immediately. low points + christmas lights/events means december is popular for DVCers.

i used the timeshare store and recommend them, FWIW. AFAIK, disney does not offer incentives for those who already paid for their wdw accomodations.

We have a great thread started on Canadians wanting to buy DVC. We are buying next month. There is no incentive if you have paid for a package (pro-rate or credit) but their are incentives for SSR and AKV right now. The Timeshare store has a good reputation. Check out our canuckie thread here

If someone from Canada buys a small-ish resale do the same laws apply if you'd then buy an add-on through Disney, since you'd be an existing member? :confused3 (I know this might be a very silly question, but I'm curious whether or not add-ons are treated the same. :goodvibes )
