Canadian intrested in DVC please help!

How did each of you choose what was your home resort?

We chose AKV over SSR because we just love the theming and the ability to see animals from your room. Plus, when we told my parents about buying DVC later, I know my mother would have killed us if she had found out we could have bought AKV and didn't. AKL has been her favorite resort by far of all the Disney resorts.

Which, of course, probably means we'll have to take them on a tip or two.

Is it ok to get around if we do not rent a car or should we rent one ? We are going to be buying AKV for sure now next month.

Are you planning on just going to the parks & DTD or are you planning on going off-site or to the other resorts? I thought that the bus service was great for getting to the parks and DTD. To me (no matter which resort that you are at), if I want to go to other resorts or off-site it is easier to have a rental car.

No offsite visits on our April trip because we won't have the kids. I think we will let the system work for us and use the bus!

Can you tell me if we decide to add on in the future can we add on by calling our guide from Calgary or do we need to travel to the resort to add on?

I just wanted to thank everybody that helped me out with my questions and replied this thread. We did end up purchasing when we went to WDW on our vacation. It was so nice to know a bit about DVC before we got there thank you to all!

From what I understand you have to be in either Disneyland or Florida if you aren't from Ontario.

Yes that is correct. I actually asked our guide this in October when we were there and he said we would have to buy add on points when we were down there on vacation because it could not be done from home. Hope this helps!
