Hi

I just used the CCM canadian resident code for my disney vacation in march. I was wondering if they're going to ask for ID or proof of residence at check in.

I don't havea canadian Drivers License right now and I'm hoping that this won't be a problem. Has anyone been asked for canadian ID at check in? I've heard that people usually aren't asked for ID, but I jsut thought I'd check.

Thanks!

Bryan, I was asked for photo ID both at the resort security gate and when I checked in at ASMu this past New Year's so you should be prepared to produce some type of photo ID.

As far as residency, I would think a Canadian passport would be okay or maybe bring a utility bill. I'd phone back and ask what they will accept as proof, in lieu of a driver's license.

I've read elsewhere here that a utility bill of bank statement will suffice as proof of residency, but Julie is correct in suggesting you call back and ask.

A passport likely wouldn't do it, because citizenship and residency aren't the same thing. I lived in the US for three years but held a Canadian passport. I was a Canadian citizen, but a US resident. (Technically, I was a resident alien, but let's not go there. :) )

Hey Mike - were you the resident alien at Alien Encounter.;) Sorry, couldn't resist.

Bryan- you will be asked for ID, I would suggest bringing your photo health card, along with perhaps a utility bill.

Hi PoohBWV, you know, we still don't have photo Health Cards, just the plain white with red lettering. I wonder why we haven't heard anything about switching them to the new ones?

We have been travelling with driver's licenses and passports, just to make sure we have everything covered!

Hi Julie! We also had the old cards and last year just went to the office here in Hamilton and requested the new ones for DH and myself......they punched a hole in our old one (for temporary use) and our new photo ID cards came in about 4-6 weeks.

I know a lot of people have been sent notices to go and get their new cards but we still hadn't heard a thing and decided to get ours on our own. DH's was really worn out from being in his wallet and I really wanted photo ID as I don't drive and I actually used this as ID when we were in Florida 14 months ago.:)

Hi Julie,

If you have a red and white, you won't be sent a notice to come in and reregister. The notices that Sammi mentioned are renewal notices for people that currently have a photo card that will be expiring in the next 6 months. Just do as Sammi mentioned... go into your nearest District Office and a photo health card will be issued for any lost, stolen, or damaged card. Since this will be considered a reregistration rather than a renewal (because you are going from red & white to photo), be sure that you have the proper documentation showing citizenship (birth certificate, landed immigrant document) and residency (phone bill, hydro bill, etc)... this should save you from having to make another trip. One other thing, photo's are not included on the card for children under 16.

Thanks sammi and North7! :) I would never have known that I had to get my own photo health card if the subject hadn't come up here. I was always under the impression that I would be notified. Thanks for all the info!

Just as an FYI,DS just got a form from Health and Welfare to call and book an appointment to get his old red card switched (finally) to the new photo ID card. The mail just came and I laughed as we've just been posting re: this very same thing! LOL;)

So yes North7 you do get a notice to change your old red cards over to the photo ID ones....it apparently takes a while for them to get to your name....that's why DH and I gave up and just went and got the new ones on our own....this gov'ment of ours is soooo slow! LOL:p   :sunny:

Thanks sammi, I wasn't going to rush out anyway! :D

"They" must have heard us discussing this! ;) LOL

I have never received forms for me or DH to get the photo health cards yet my dad and sister both have(in fact they have had theirs for a couple of years)I keep telling DH that we should go get ours so that I can use mine as a form of photo id as i dont drive.Maybe I will get my forms soon.

LOL You're welcome Julie.....and yes I think they must have heard us talking about them!;)

Kelly one of the reasons I went to get mine along with DH (his old red card was a shabby mess from being in his wallet) was that I too wanted it for photo ID as I don't drive either. It really came in handy as other years when we went to WDW I had to get a passport but the last visit I just needed to show them the Health card and no problem.....although I wonder if it's still a good thing to use since Sept 11.

Our last name begins with an "M" ....maybe they're going last names. The office is located just around the corner from the Convention centre across from Jackson Square up on the 10th floor and it only takes a few minutes to apply!Good luck.

Our last name begins with an "A".I guess when I go and apply for a passport,I will go for my health card(I believe the pasport is in the same building)
