I think that when Harper prorogued Parliament I really lost any respect for him. That was just a wimpy move. I could not vote for him after that.

DH, and I pray he doesn't get a second chance to pull the same stunt again.

Considering how few views there even are on this topic I don't think its a very controversial subject.
Chances are the mods are like the rest of the American posters and scrolled right on by.

But since you're here do you have any input, opinion, bet, or guess on the outcome?

The last exciting election in Canada (to me at least) was 1993 when the Cons got slaughtered and the Bloc became the official opposition. That was a stunning outcome.

I'm more of a Socialist not to be confused as some do with a Communist so.. My vote would lie always on the NDP doorstep; However, as I said in an earlier post one's vote has to "count" so I'm of a Liberal mind set this election.

I don't know if this is playing across the country. But did anyone catch Hazel McCallion's commercial endorsing the Liberal platform and calling out erroneous claims made by Harper's camp on seniors' issues?

I don't get local politicians getting involved in the fight, and often don't agree with it, but since she is speaking for seniors' issues I found it priceless.

Darn I (we, two seniors) missed viewing that. My Blackberry playbook is showing a message that I have to check back. I'll try our PC later tonight. Thanks for sharing.

Well I guess Mr. Trudeau is reconsidering the personal mud slinging. He's come out to say that Harper should be embarrassed to be openly supported by Rob Ford and family.

I'd prefer to call that stating fact not mud slinging. Thought it interesting that "Stephen" (way to go Hazel) couldn't bring himself to refer to the Fords by their names.

Oh.. wait it's mostly scripted reading he spouts.

I'm an American and I'm doing a bit more than just scrolling by.

No input, just a guess that Trudeau will win, because that family name is the only one I've heard of.

The last exciting election in Canada to me, well, it was a referendum, was in late October or early November 1995. I'm sure every Canadian poster knows to what I'm referring. I was in Montreal a week before the referendum and chanced upon various rallies for both sides.

These comments are sounding pretty smug and a little obnoxious - it's almost like you're baiting them. Don't do that; it's not becoming for a "polite" Canadian.

I think Canadian politics are way more colourful than Americans - we have separatists, coalitions, pirourette, news conferences on jet skis, partying first ladies, PMs that last a whopping 4 months, 5 federal elections in one decade. It's quite fascinating.

I think that the reason our politics seem a bit...boring? to others is that unlike American politics, our parties are more shades of gray than black and white. In the USA, the difference between the Democratic platform and the Republican one is amazingly vast.

When I was growing up (yes, I know that makes me sound really old!) the two main parties were the Liberals and the Progressive Conservatives and while the PC's were right leaning and the Liberals were left leaning, they were slightly right or left but fairly centre when compared to the USA.

The current Conservative party is much closer to the American Republicans now. The Liberals are still fairly centre and the left now has both the NDP and the Greens. But even though our parties are further apart politically, we are rank amateurs compared to the States.
