Canadian DISer's Weight Loss Get In Shape Thread

Welcome to the the new people:thumbsup2 Glad to have you aboard:) I think I'll have to try sparkpeople and see what it's all about. Anything that helps. Keep up the good work everyone. I too am a nurse. I'm like you guys I know what's healthy it's a matter of doing it.

Purplepeg- You won't be disappointed with the site. It is amazing. Lots of things to read and help keep you motivated. I like to read peoples blogs that are doing well. One girl has lost 120lbs. Talk about a motivator!!! When you first start SP it takes a bit of time to set everything up but once you get some regular food items in your favorites it gets much quicker to log your food. :surfweb: Give me a pm if you need some help. I am starting 12 h nights (4 of them) tomorrow so I will be awal for a bit.:hourglass

Take care.:flower3:
Over on sp I am mickeysgirl. Check out disboards disney-aholics team I believe it is under travel section for sparkteams.

Thanks neonurse!
I did check out sparkpeople. Awesome site. I think right now I need both WW and Sparkpeople. The more motivation the better! I'm looking forward to losing with you all!

I am now on week 2 of pneumonia (who gets pneumonia in September?) I have started on a new antibiotic as the first one did not do a good enough job. If the second one does not work they are going to hospitalize me. Obviously I am hoping this second one works...lots of Dis time which is nice:goodvibes
Hope the meds worked and you are feeling much better now:)

I'm with you all the way, I've lost twenty, with sixty five more to go. I even feel better with the twenty pounds off, the plantar facitis is gone, so is the heartburn. My goal for our Disney trip in a couple of months is to lose twenty more. I've never been down to Disney looking trim. Can't wait for my shorts to feel baggy.:surfweb:

Weigh in day. I have stayed the same, better than going up I guess:confused3. I stopped tracking my points by about Thursday and I had already used all my extra's so I think that was probably the problem. But I've hit my goal weight by vacation so I can happy dance:banana:  .

How's everyone else doing?

Jumping back in with both feet now - school has started, vacation is finished and I really need to get serious about all this!

I started last week with drinking more water and walking the dog every night rather then just taking him to the field and throwing the ball for him! this week I'll start working on portion sizes and types of food I'm eating!

I really need these pounds to get lost so to speak!!

My main goal is to be down 25lbs by Cmas

BITSANDBEARSMOM-Your goal of losing 25lb by Christmas might be a bit high if you haven't lost any yet. They recommend not losing more than 1-2 lbs a week for healthy long term weight loss. Are you just starting?? I also recommend that you take measurement before and each week or so with weigh ins. Sometimes the scale doesn't move but the inches do. I can't believe the difference in my measurements. I added them up this morning. 4" from waist, 4" from hips, 4" from chest and 1.5" from neck...Oh my gosh!!! 13"!!! I feel much different but it feels great to see proof of the inches lost. Keep up the great work. Everyday it gets a bit easier. Hit 41.5lb this am. I am so happy. I can't believe I hit 40#. What will I buy for myself today? Every 10 lbs I get a present. I have a lovely 10lb purse hahahaha! This is the lightest I have been in 12 years...Yahoo!!!!:cool1: On the 20th of this month it will be 6 months I have been working on this!!! The biggest thing I have learned is to change my additude towards weightloss. This is NOT a DIET, its a lifestyle change which means you have to learn to do it for the rest of your life and be happy...so if that means occassionally having something that isn't the best choice its OK. I know now that I can't go back to the way I was eating before once I lose this weight or it will come right back.

Good luck to everyone and I hope you have a great week.:yay:

Hi all, weighed in yesterday. so sad...up 4 lbs:scared1: How does that happen:confused3 I'm sure the 2 boxes of toffee my aunt brought from Scotland had nothing to do with it:rotfl: How depressing, but I have only myself to blame. Went to Laura Plus yesterday for a fall fashion 411. It was great to have the manager one on one to show you different looks. I had gift certs from my birthday in June that I still hadn't used because I was going to wait until I lost weight. Well I bit the bullet yesterday and bought new clothes that look good now and make me feel good:cool1: What a novel concept:banana:

Purplepeg-Do you think your cycle has anything to do with your weight gain??? Also I found that after working shifts it would take 2 days for the edema/water retension to disappear. I ususally don't weigh in unless I have had a couple of days off to recoupe because I found I was up and then got frustrated...but the weight gain wasn't real. I find journalling my food for the day really helps me keep on track. Have you been writing down everything you eat? I even plan to bring a notepad to disney with me in nov. to write what I eat. I will guesstimate the points/calories and hopefully this will keep me focused. I don't want to lose control again. It has taken 6 months and I don't want to lose the healthy lifestyle or gain ANY weight back. I have been let out of fat prison and I am not going back!!

I know what you mean about having sweets around the house. I feel I have deprived my family because I won't let it in the house now. I used to bake...not anymore. Who can resist warm banana bread out of the oven, or cookies....MMMMMM! Cakes and cookies are my weakness. I told my kids that while I am trying to get healthy that they will have to have treats like that out of the house. Now if we are out I will let them get a doughnut once a month so that I don't feel like such a meanie. Its funny I never really thought that what I ate affected my family...but it did big time. They are learning to make healthy choices too. I guess I wasn't a very good example but I am on track now and I feel so much better.

I'm happy to hear that you bought some new clothes. It makes you feel so much better about yourself, more confident, like you can do anything. Good for you!!!:yay: I never got out to treat myself to my 10 lb present today but I am looking forward to it tomorrow. I have to go and do some fall shopping as well.

You're back on track now. Keep logging your food and see if that helps.
Take care.

Thanks - starting water last week I'm down 3 lbs - and that's with eating a big old slice of cheesecake on the weekend too  ! Having done this before several yrs ago when I lost lots and lots (went from a sz 22 to a sz 16) I know for me the first month or 2 I usually drop the most.
Even if I'm down 15 to 20 lbs by cmas I'll be happy. If I don't set my goal high won't work as hard......does that make sense??
Started my food journal yesterday too so I'm now accountable for every bite that goes in my mouth!!
lifestyle change not diet!

bitsnbearsmom-Do whatever you need to to get started!!!! The trick is finding something that works for you over the long haul, not just for a couple of months!! Go girl!!:cool1:

Ok I have been doing so good and then last night I was up in the middle of the night...switching over from night shifts...and the potato chips in the cupboard called to me. It was like the little angel was on one shoulder saying don't do it, read the calorie and fat count and the devil was on my other shoulder and said just do it. Just one won't hurt. Well, we all know that I didn't and couldn't eat just one. First one handful and then another. They were so good and then the guilt. WHAT DID I DO THAT FOR?????:confused3 This morning I am still burping them up. YUCK! Stupid, stupid, stupid!!! Now I am mad at dh for buying them and mad at myself for giving in. He said he got them to put in the kids lunches. GRRRRR!

Oh well now I have to move on and make good choices today and maybe get out for a walk and burn off some of that fat.

Thanks for listening...I mean reading.
Anyone else have problems like this?

Ok I am on the mend from pneumonia...still sweating~ and guess what? Dh and I are doing WW together!~ I have the best dh in the world! His employer also provides a dietician and kinesiologist for our use for free! He is doing points and I am doing core. For me it is a lifestyle change, for him it really is about portion control. Here we go!!!!!

Good for you Dragon n' fly. Hope you are feeling better. Take it easy. It can take weeks to recover.:grouphug:

WOW - it's been awhile since I have been on this thread....not that I haven't been doing ok....really sucking actually, but I still have been getting in my runs. This Saturday is my 10k race in Banff....please wish me luck. It is a very challenging race and I am very nervous about it. I just want to finish it....after that, I will continue with my 5 factor fitness so hopefully I will be in impeccable shape for my WDW trip in December! Thanks everyone for the continued support!
Jo

Hey - I just had a great idea!!! Ok, it may not sound appealing to all, but wouldn't it be nice if we could all meet at WDW for the 2009 marathon weekend, usually the second weekend of January?

There is a half marathon (my goal), a marathon, and a 5km fun run (so you can walk or run this!). Registration (I think) opens in March. I thought it would be nice to see who is motivating me and keeping me on my toes!

Let me know if you think this is a good idea....I just thought about it, and I just read a thing on how to keep motivated...one of the points given was to register for an event far away from your home town because the cost of travel motivates you to continue to work-out/train (which I can vouch for - it's working for me this up coming weekend!)

Anyways, just a thought - a weekend away from work, husband (love him to death, but would like a weekend away from him too every now and then!), and every other responsibility, to meet some great people, challenge myself beyond anything I have ever done, and see so many people succeed at their goals....doesn't get much better then that!

Neonurse,
Thanks so much for all the kind words and suggestions and general support:goodvibes Everyone here is so great:thumbsup2 I do know my cycle affects my weigh ins but I also think poor choices affects it too. I need a kickstart and I'm just plugging away. I look at every day as a new challenge and remember lifestyle change not diet. Thanks again.
