SO for all my fellow Canadians out there, I have a question about a particular item on the Le Cellier menu. The "Chedder Cheese Soup" is it really some type of cheese soup, or is it more like a French Onion soup with cheese??

Just curious...Thanks!!!

No it is just cheese soup - not a French Onion soup (and sorry, I'm not a Canadian)!

Ingredients:

1/4 lb. smoked bacon finely chopped
1 medium red onion cut into 1/4 in. pieces
1/2 cup finely sliced celery
1/2 cup finely chopped carrots
3 TB all-purpose flour
3 cups whole milk
2 cups chicken stock
12 oz. grated white cheddar, Canadian Black Diamond
3 dashes Tabasco
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup Moosehead Canadian Ale, room temperature
salt and pepper to taste
1 TB thinly sliced chives

I am a Franco American and there are quite a few places in Maine that serve the Cheddar Cheese Soup....I love the Moosehead Beer in it too..It is a true cheese soup.......I LOVE IT....

Great Soup!
It is very thick. You can take a spoonful from the edge of the bowl and it takes a while for the remaining soup to fall down to fill in the missing area.

Now being a Canadian, I have never had Cheese Soup. It must be either a Quebec (french) thing or from the east coast.

As far as beer goes, there are so many better beers up here than Moosehead. That beer is so outdated! I would love to see some microbrews at WDW. And if not, bring in Sleeman's!!!

Not Canadian but we don't care for it, tastes like a bowl of liquid salt to us. We may be in the minority though.

The Cheese Soup is a favorite for my whole Family. DD11 loves to dip the wonderful pretzel bread in the soup :)

I couldn't wait to try it for the first time this past May but I just didn't care for it. I'm not sure what I was expecting but I was disappointed. My 20 year-old son liked it though.

I am Canadian. Its a cheese soup, not the best cheese soup but a good one. Saskatchewan Cheese soup is the best!

I'm Canadian too, and to tell you the truth, I don't really know what's so Canadian about Cheddar Chs soup....except, perhaps the Canadian beer they use in it? :confused3 I have never heard of Cheddar Cheese Soup being a Canadian delicacy before eating at Le Cellier!

With that said, When I tried it, I enjoyed it very much....not the best soup I've ever tasted, but good nonetheless, and I will be ordering it again on my Feb trip :goodvibes
