Okay, I wasn't go to do a trippie, but this long, long month of January has me wanting to relive our trip, so I've decided to relive it for you!

I didn't do a pre-trip report either, so I better fill you in on the who's who and the what's what of this whole trip. My wonderful Dad, bless him, decided last January that he wanted to take the entire family on a dream vacation for Christmas - we lost my Mom 15 years ago, and he wanted one huge family trip before he gets too old to travel. And we were blessed with some dividends from Mom's life insurance policy, so he wanted to use the whole thing to pay for the trip, since no one in our family could pull this off without saving forever! So a whole year ago, we started planning. The hardest part was that my sister did not want her children to know until the last possible moment! My kids are older, and I told them because I had to know everyone's schedules and booking time off, etc.

The cast members are me, Tracey - 43, Mom, Disney Freak and planner extraordinaire; Bob, my hubby, 44, Disney freak as well, but he lets me do all the planning and just wants to know when to show up; my Dad, Roger (Grandpa), 66, lives for his grandchildren, would do anything for me and my sister, his only children; Trevor, 21, my oldest - tattoo artist and just plain goofy and fun; Tyler, 19, quiet but fun-loving, lives in my basement (by choice, we didn't lock him down there!); Brooke, 15, my daughter and best friend, budding actress with the biggest heart of anyone I know; Brad, 40, my hubby's brother whom my kids adore; Trina, 37, my sister and best friend in the world; Scott, 39, my brother-in-law - only one who has never been to Disney!; Mitchell, 16, my nephew; Mason, 13, my nephew; Marek, 11, my nephew; Matthew, 9, my nephew; and Dave & Joan, my sis's in-laws. Phew! And if that's not enough, our best friends, Pat & Rob, and their sons Ryan 10 and Nicholas 6, are joining us the second week on their third trip with us.

Now that you know how many of us there are (a lot), here's what we planned. DH and I always go every year if we can and stay at our DVC resorts for at least 12 days. My sister could only go away for a week because of her hubby's schedule, so we planned on going on ahead and they would join us later. So from Dec. 14 to Dec. 26 it was going to be me, my hubby, his brother, my Dad, and my three kids in a 2 bedroom at Old Key West. My sister and her family were flying down to join us from Dec. 19 - Dec. 26. Our friends were driving down to arrive and stay the same time as my sister.

Is everyone still with me? Hope so!

On with the trip!

After a long year of planning, waiting and wishing, it was finally here! Monday, December 13th, hubby and I both worked, and my Dad came home with Bob to spend the night so he wouldn't have to get up at his house an hour away and drive early in the morning. We were all so excited, but I wanted to get to bed early. We had to leave before 4 am because they were calling for snow and we wanted to leave plenty of time to get to our flight. We were flying out of Buffalo on the 6:40 am Southwest flight - we live in Ontario Canada, but are only 4 minutes from the border at Buffalo, and another 15 minutes to the airport. So at 7:30 pm Monday night, I took a gravol to make me sleepy, and slept a whole 5 hours until 1:00 a.m., when I opened my eyes and just watched the clock! At 2:45 a.m. I jumped out of bed and woke everyone up because..... it was a blizzard outside! :scared1:
My worst nightmare had come to pass, and I had horrible visions of spending the entire first day of my Disney dream vacation snowed in at the airport. I felt like crying, but got everyone ready and loaded up as though it was a summer trip. Bob went to pick up his brother at 3:30 a.m., then we finished loading our two cars (had to take two to fit all 7 of us), and we slowly made our way to the airport.
The plows hadn't been out yet, and you couldn't even see pavement, so it took a while, but we got there with plenty of time. The shuttle met us at our cars and we loaded all our luggage (had 13 checked bags, plus each of us had a carry-on bag!). There was no line at the Southwest counter when we arrived, so by 5 a.m. we were through security and happily waiting at our gate. It was still snowing, but our flight showed on time, so we just sat and hoped. My pixie dust started early, because we took off only 15 minutes late for de-icing, and actually landed 15 minutes early, so we were right on time!:woohoo: I was smiling so hard when we landed, my face hurt for quite a while!! There isn't a better moment than when you're on the shuttle/mini monorail taking you over to the luggage area and seeing a palm tree up close for the first time - in December!!! I saw no snow, only green foliage, green grass and even pavement!
Once we collected our luggage, we crossed over to the Alamo garage - and discovered that even though the sun was shining, it was only 40 degrees - in Orlando! But we Canadians are a hearty bunch, and knowing it was 13 degrees at home made me feel warm and toasty on my way to Disney! We got our two rental cars (Bob's brother Brad rented one for himself), and off we went. Screaming with joy as we passed under the iconic Walt Disney World sign onto Disney property, we proceeded to Old Key West, our favourite place to stay.
Of course our room wasn't ready, so to pass some time, we left the luggage in the cars and headed to Hollywood Studios to use the guest services to get all of our passes in order. We had our volunteer for a day vouchers to put towards our DVC AP's - actually arrived on the day before they expired! Back at the resort by 1pm, but still no room ready. So Brooke, Dad and I took the car and went to the Walmart Super center nearby to get groceries for our first week, while everyone else hung out at the resort. Two hours later, we returned to find Bob and Brad waiting for us at Hospitality House while Trevor and Tyler waited in the room. We had room 5121 at South Point. Bob and Dad didn't like the view of the road past the golf green, but with nothing better available I said we were staying and proceeded to get us settled in and unpacked. The most fun part was decorating with a few things I had packed, especially my little tree

And here are some pictures of our 2 bedroom villa

I made hot dogs and hamburgers for dinner while I finished unpacking. No parks were open late, and it was quite cool outside, but even though we were all tired, some of us just had to get out and keep the Disney feeling going - after all, we were finally here!
Trevor and Tyler headed to Disney Quest, and Brooke and Brad headed to Downtown Disney to explore the shops. Dad, Bob and I stayed in and watched Elf, one of my favourite Christmas movies. Around 8:30 p.m., I felt like I had to get out there too, so I just went to the gift shop to try and find some 2010 items on sale - they didn't have any, and it's still 2010!!! My sister will be crushed if I can't find her a magnet, in fact so will I! Now I was on a mission, so I got in the car and headed to Downtown Disney - busy place even for a Tuesday night! Would this be a clue as to how things would be the rest of the time???
I looked everywhere - every store I was in said they marked everything down last week that said 2010, and most of it sold out. I did manage to find a small 2010 photo album with 100 picture capacity for $4.99, so I bought that to put away for my Dad. No magnets, no Christmas ornaments. I even stopped at Saratoga Springs gift shop on my way back, and they were out too. The CM there told me to check all the parks, and believe me, if one was open, I would have continued my hunt!
But back to my villa I went, to lay my head down in my wonderful master suite to rest up for my first full day here! I love waking up in Disney - or do I? ......

This is why I don't do trippies - I never get any followers! Anyone reading along, or should I just quit now?

Is it my title, or am I just plain boring, or too long-winded? Any suggestions?

Waking up knowing your at Walt Disney World is wonderful. Waking up knowing you can't spend the day at Walt Disney World isn't! Let me explain...Bob and I are huge Nascar fans, and he found out they are doing Good Year tire tests at Daytona Speedway to run cars for the first time on the newly paved track. Now I will go to a race in a heartbeat, but give me the choice of Disney or Nascar, I'll choose Disney every time. So I'm a little ashamed of what I did (shhh, don't tell!) - I faked a migraine! Hubby was up at 6:30 a.m., I moaned and told him there was no way I could possibly stand the drive there, much less the sound of loud cars zooming by me. Thank goodness my Dad was going (he'd never been to Daytona Speedway), so they happily got ready and headed off by 7:30 without me. So up I sprang, got a shower and woke up my daughter to tell her to forgive me for lying, but I had cleared us some Mom/daughter time! The boys were still sleeping and planned to just wing it today, so I had my tea, got her through her bathroom routine as quickly as I could, then we headed out to Hollywood Studios to christen our new annual passes!
So off to the bus stop at South Point.
135.jpg

It was a nice, sunny morning, but chilly. I was glad I brought my winter coat. The Florida sun was warm, but the air was cold.
Arriving at Hollywood Studios, we stopped to capture the moment:
024.jpg

We went to get our fastpasses for Tower of Terror, our favourite ride together - they were for a half hour later, so I was determined to hit the gift shops and find some 2010 items. Score! I found ornaments, a scrapbook kit for my sister and photo albums that hold 200 pictures. I bought enough for me, my sister and my bff and had them sent to our resort. No magnets yet, but I would keep looking! So I happily strolled to our fastpass time and we rode Tower of Terror for the first time in over a year - loved it as usual! We wandered to the Streets of America so I could show Brooke all the lights strung along the street in the light of day - she was amazed and couldn't wait to see them lit up at night. Then she found her churro that she was craving and shared a bite with me. Here she is in front of her favourite show poster:
025.jpg

It was still chilly out by lunch time, only about 48 degrees, but we're hearty Canadians and it's snowing at home, so I didn't mind one bit! Feeling energized and not wanting to let the Disney magic end, we opted not to go back to the villa for lunch, but to head over to Epcot on a bus. On our way out of Hollywood Studios, I felt the need to check at a small kiosk outside the exit to the right - and OMG I found 2010 magnets marked down to $2.99! They were the kind that holds a photo, not what I usually get, but beggars can't be choosers, so I bought 3 of them and all but skipped to the bus for Epcot!!:woohoo:
Our first stop was Japan in the World Showcase, Brooke's favourite gift shop. She was looking for a specific item for a friend, but was upset that she couldn't find it there. No frowning allowed in WDW! With rumbling in our tumblys, we headed to my favourite, cheap lunch stop in Epcot - the France bakery. We shared a ham and cheese croissant, warmed, and a huge lemon tart.
We wandered slowly back to the entrance just taking in the sights. I checked in United Kingdom toy shop for Eeyore and friends since I was dying for my picture with my best friend Eeyore, but they weren't there. So we decided to just head back to the resort to see if Bob and Dad had returned.
No one was there, no one left a note (why did I bring a notepad for the fridge if no one used it???), so we just relaxed. I did some laundry (not much for just one day, but we needed our jeans!), and Brooke wanted to bake some Christmas cookies. So she did:

And her creation with leftover dough:

Part 2 coming up soon - what do you mean we have to move?????

So when I last left you, Brooke and I were happily relaxing at the room just the two of us. I realized I had to go to Hospitality House after a manager called and asked why we were still in our room two hours past check out??!! They should know why, but I forgot to go check us out on our cash stay portion and check us back in on our Vacation Club points stay - we didn't have to move, just check out, check in. I explained this to the manager, and promptly went up front. It wasn't busy and I went to a CM who told me after checking that I was indeed checked out and would have to move as that room was no longer available - what???? :confused3 I explained we had been told when we arrived we would not have to move, otherwise I wouldn't have bought a weeks' worth of groceries to pack up and haul somewhere else. She excused herself to the back and I stood there shaking my head. Then......as I was looking around, I noticed someone familiar at the counter a few CM's down - it was my husband and my Dad. I yelled down to them, and my husband signalled for me to come over. He was talking to a manager (laughing and chatting like long lost buddies more like!), and I said what are you doing? Oh, we just changed rooms. No wonder the CM told me we were checked out! I said he could have left me a note or something!
Apparently, him and Dad had been sitting on the deck watching traffic go by on the highway and decided they just weren't happy with the noise and the view. So they went up front to see what could be done since we were told at check-in yesterday they were at 99% capacity. They managed to work with the manager and found a 2 bedroom villa for us with a better view nearby, as well as one a level down that would be available and held for my sister and her family arriving on Sunday. Well, the thought of moving made my stomach turn over, but knowing everyone would be happy with the view and location, and my sister would be nearby, I gave in!
Back to the room to break it to the kids who had thankfully just arrived! And then - packing! Thank goodness I had kept all the Walmart bags, so the boys packed up the groceries while I packed the suitcases, and Bob and Dad started packing the car. We were moving just down across the road from Building 51 to Building 47, so we didn't have far, but we were on the THIRD floor with no elevator - fun, wow! I was amazed we did it in just under an hour, and I was able to unpack and start dinner on time with everyone's help. And the view was so much nicer! (even better than we thought with a surprise to come later!).
Here was our old view from Dad's studio balcony
036.jpg

Here was our new golf course view with Turtle Pond Road behind the trees. Much better than a busy highway, and much quieter!
401.jpg

The only difference with the rooms that I didn't like was that we lost our lock-off and were now in a dedicated, so Brooke lost her internet port in the studio, and Dad and her lost their kitchenette for quiet breakfasts and their own deck. But they were fine with that! So after settling in and having a nice spaghetti dinner, my kids Tyler, Brooke and I went to Animal Kingdom for Extra Magic Hours to ride Everest (no one else likes to ride it). I love AK at night, so pretty! Especially with the Christmas tree lit up! It was cold out about 40 degrees, so my eyes were watering after our expedition with the Yeti, but it was fun - just walked on twice! Then we rode Dinosaur, also a walk-on, and we got this picture on the way out.
049.jpg

We're in the second row, Ty is the only one looking!

Then when we were back at the room, we noticed flashes of light coming from outside, and discovered we could see this every night:
134-1.jpg

It was Illuminations at Epcot, with a special holiday ending, and it was wonderful - so happy we had this room now!
And I almost forgot about Bob's brother Brad, who had taken his own car and went surfing at Cocoa Beach for the day (yes, Canadians don't mind surfing when it's 50 degrees out!!) Thank goodness he had remembered to stop at Hospitality House for his new key, because the guard out front reminded him that his parking pass/key had expired that day - they gave him the new room number and key and he found us no problem. So we were all happily settled into our new home where we'd be spending Christmas with the palm trees!:woohoo:

Lol I had to join in after I saw your title....Canadian winters are the worst:goodvibes

Looking forward to more

Thanks for joining in! I love remembering our trip while I sit here and look outside at snow and -15 degrees C on the thermometer!!

You arrived as we were leaving. I was so shocked at the cold temps!! I'm a southern girl, we aren't cut out for this weather! :sad2: But I agree, being at disney is MUCH better than being cold at home!! I just started my Trip Report as well!

Thanks for following along everyone!

So now it's Thursday morning - already! I can't believe once you get to your vacation after planning and waiting for so long, how the days just seem to blur by - slow down!
This day is an exciting day for my older kids - Disney was a big deal when they were younger, especially for the boys - now they're excited about a day at Universal Studios to ride the really big rides that make their parents ill!
The ONLY reason we are going to US is because I managed to score free passes from my summer job, so off we went in our two rental cars bright and early. And here we are that morning:
024-1.jpg

Notice the sweaters, gloves, etc. It did warm up as the day wore on though, and it was a bright, sunny day. We went to the Studios side first and were pleasantly surprised at how few people there were. We walked right into the next Shrek 4D show - it was a little bumpy and me and Dad came out with sore backs.
We all rode The Mummy twice, except for Dad. Again, walked right on - it took longer to get to the ride than the actual ride took! Still wondering why it wasn't busy, we waited while the kids went on the new Rip,Rock It, Rollercoaster (I'm sure I got the name wrong!). They rode it twice with only a 10 minute wait. By now it was 11a.m., so I suggested we head over to Islands of Adventure - Dad, Bob and I really only wanted to see The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and then head back to Disney. We'd been to US about 5 years ago, and it still was about the same for me, I prefer WDW!
So we park hopped over to IoA and walked through Suess Landing
027-1.jpg

Cute this time of year, especially for the Grinch.
Then.....we found all the people!
028-1.jpg

Welcome to the world of Harry Potter - where you can't move! They seriously did not do this park right - they needed a lot more space for the amount of people this attracts. My daughter desperately wanted a Gryffindor scarf - the gift shop was a joke - single file, wall to wall people, we stepped in, then left. $40 for a scarf was not a good deal anyhow! It was neat to see, but I wouldn't go just for that. And with a 110 minute wait to get into Hogwart's castle, we left the kids and headed back to WDW! Mischief Managed!!!

029.jpg

The kids stayed with Brad (who's more like a teenager trapped in a middle-aged man's body!), and they rode all the coasters all afternoon without any waits at all. They had fun, but I'm not a fan of loops that much (I like the Rockin Rollercoaster, but only once per trip!)

So Bob, Dad and I happily trekked the five miles or more back to the parking garage and drove as fast as we could until we could breathe a big sigh of contentment back on Disney property! Out of the real world and back to our Disney magic!

This afternoon was the Member Merry Mixer for Disney Vacation Club, so we thought we'd go check it out. It was at 3pm at the Contemporary, so after a late lunch and some down time, we drove over to the mixer.

Pluto dancing while we stood in line to see:

041-1.jpg

And yes, we're in t-shirts! Kind of rebellious of us as it was only about 62 degrees outside, but hey, it's snowing at home!!!

We got a free juice and each got a free Christmas krispie treat to take home. On the way out we got one ornament for the family - very nice pewter Mickey as a gingerbread man that says DVC 2010 on it! Worth an hour of our time I'd say.

Up next...wow, that's a lot of lights!!

So after the Member Merry Mixer, we went back to the villa and I made tacos for supper. No sign of Brad and the kids at 5:30pm, but we knew Universal closed at 5, so they'd be back soon. We were so excited to see the Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Hollywood Studios, we headed out just the three of us right after dark. Dad and I saw them last year, but Bob had never seen them, so couldn't wait to show him. We saw Brad's car pull in as we were waiting at the bus stop, but we had left them a note to join us if they wanted to, so we didn't run back for them (figured they were probably tired anyhow). Hollywood Studios didn't seem busy when we got there, but we found out where all the people were when we got to the street of lights. We didn't mind though, since everyone just slowly wanders or finds a spot to stand in amazement - it's so beautiful, and Bob was amazed. We actually got to the end of the street and found a bench we could all sit on, so we spent about half an hour just taking it all in - I love when they dance to music!

The park was closing at 8pm, so we headed back around 7:30 to avoid the rush. Once back to OKW, Dad and I went to the Walmart Supercenter for a few things we needed (apparently I forgot mustard, which is supposedly necessary for hot dogs, hamburgers or ham sandwiches:confused3), and Dad had left his juice and oatmeal in the studio kitchenette in our old room. So we were only gone about an hour, and drove into Old Key West just as the fireworks were going off from our balcony. Everyone was home for the evening as most parks closed early that night and the gang was tired from their long day at universal. We had some snacks, a few beverages  and watches Pirates 2 pirate: until bedtime.
Up next - what, I can wear sandals in December?! :yay:

This morning Bob and I were the first (and only) ones up. Brad and the kids were exhausted from their day at Universal, so we didn't wake anyone up. And Dad likes to sleep in, so we didn't disturb him either. Today was supposed to be a glorious 75 degrees, so we headed to our favourite park, Animal Kingdom, to enjoy the sunshine. We left at 9:30 a.m., and although I needed my zip-up fleece hoodie, I was wearing capris and sandals!!!
We went on the safari first, walked on, lots of animals out.
Then we wandered through the Pangani Forest trail to visit Bob's favourite guy, posing just for us:
072.jpg

On our way to Everest, I took this picture - owls were my Grandma's favourite thing on the planet, and now my daughter loves them
421.jpg

Then on to my favorite ride:
420.jpg

Bob can't handle Everest, so I rode the single rider line, no wait at all.

Then on to the Maharajah Jungle Trek - love the tigers!
078.jpg

This young one was very interested in all the people watching him
081.jpg

And then he actually ran down to the glass right in front of us for a closer look - thank goodness for the glass, because I think he wanted to get a lot closer!
087.jpg

By now it was lunch time (and my jacket was off!). We headed back to our villa for lunch and to see what everyone else was up to. Brad and the kids were actually on their way out to Animal Kingdom when we got back. So after lunch, Bob wanted to see if he could find them and talk someone into going on Kali River Rapids - he knew I wouldn't!
Dad went to the pool for a while to enjoy some sunshine. I cleaned up, did a load of laundry (mostly towels), then played my Christmas music while I sat on the deck with no jacket and caught up on my journal. Bob and Dad joined me around 3:30 (Bob didn't find anyone at AK). I made mini pizzas for supper, and everyone was home by 5:30 p.m.

It was extra magic hours at Epcot tonight, and I was dying to see the Candlelight Processional, so everyone but my two boys went to Epcot around 6:30 p.m. (The boys went to Disney Quest instead). We went straight to the American Pavilion for the 8pm Candlelight Procession. Thomas Gibson was tonight's narrator. It was a lovely night with only light jackets and jeans, about 60 degrees was the low. We got spots right at the back behind the very last row of seats outside the rope in the center and we were right beside the choir as they entered.
094.jpg

I don't know what made that girl look - I didn't know her, and I didn't yell for her to look, but she did!

095.jpg

This is the best part of being there at Christmas - shows what Christmas is really about, and really put us all in the Christmas spirit. I get moved to tears every time I see it!

After that, we wandered around World Showcase together towards Mexico, then headed to Test Track. Brad had never been on, so we waited the half hour Standby time to show him why we love this ride. It's so fun at night too!
Saw this on our way out - it had been covered by burlap on Wednesday when Brooke and were there because of the cold. With the warmer temperatures today, we could enjoy some of the Christmas displays.
091.jpg

And the beautiful tree at the entrance to World Showcase:
021.jpg

Now it was after 10pm, and we all agreed we were too tired to try and stay for EMH until 12:30 am, so back home we went. Watched some of Pirates 3 with some snacks and beverages, then off to bed. Only 2 more days until I see my sister - but boy, this vacation is picking up speed! Slow down, please!!!:santa:
