Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

I think so - I complain about Birthdays, but the alternative is not so good... :rolleyes1

::yes::
Oh darn! There are some things to learn for sure. I'm sure she will find another job. It is hard from an employer standpoint - really hard to find good employees who will actually show up for work. I'm sure she would be a good, reliable employee and they would want to work with her if they gave her a chance. Too bad it is such a long commute for her - maybe I could use her. :rotfl2:

I'll send her down!

Luna is soooo adorable, even as she gets bigger. Looks like she is learning how to be a good doggy

I hope so. Right now she's evil.
(But cute evil.)

You packed alot into the day.

We did!
This whole trip we packed in a lot...
and yet it didn't feel rushed at all.

Sorry the over the top sweet shaved ice made you feel a little yuck. It doesn't really sound good like that.

It was wayyy too much.

Nice shots of your views from Haleakala! Crazy how windy it was!

Thanks!

It was really windy.
Lean into it or you're going over, windy.

Did you ever find out why your flight was so late?

No. Never did.

Good thing you caught your connecting flight.

I didn't really think about it much at the time,
but yeah. We were lucky.

Sorry I was right about the snow - having lived in the snow most of my life, I know that is just the kind of fun activity that greets you upon arriving home from a wonderful tropical vacation in Winter. Or Spring.

No kidding.
I'm getting close to the point where
I hire a service to do it.

But for right now, I get exercise from it, so...

6:55 am

No, 10 min. late

"Yes! I saw them all!"

Noted.

I'm sorry your trip is about over. I'm looking forward to your next adventure - which is????

Montreal. In four days.

OK I was going to get on about pools in my TR (since I'm waiting around for folks to join in on the quiz) and you don't even want to know what it's going to cost us to get it fixed up and that doesn't even count the jacuzzi. Bit that will be a post on my TR.

Uh, oh. This sounds ominous.

As I said before. You could go to the grocery store and I would read about it. Bring on the Montreal TR!

 Okay. I'm considering it.
It'll probably happen.

Absolutely! What would we do without a Pkondz party?

Well, I hear that pity parties are pretty popular.

:rolleyes1

OK, so the first couple replies are for old posts that I missed...my bad.
Kay's applying for her very first job tomorrow.
She's panicking about her resume.
(Having never done one, understandable.)
So I've been spending all my breaks helping her with it.
Been doing the same here with DD16. She started dropping off resumes 2 weeks ago. No luck so far. I'm hoping for some good news soon. Not only for the money aspect (and start saving for university!) but I don't want to go through another summer with a teenager moping around the house...

She pretty much wants a summer job
and they want a longer term employee.
We shall see.
Yep, we had a couple leads here but I think she's running into the same problem. Hopefully it works out for both soon.

Now, on to the TR

Don't you feel that that sign is missing something?
Like: "No shirt, no shoes, no service"?
Yeah, like “no food, no gas, you’re screwed”

Sometimes age brings wisdom.
Okay. It's super rare.
But it does happen!
I’m still waiting for it to happen. Someday…

(It was only much later,
while I was writing this TR,
that I discovered that you were supposed
to follow a short trail to the real overlook.)
Oh, about that age bringing wisdom thing, I guess you’re not that old yet…

She ate it anyway and didn't seem to mind.
Plus she got a Twilight Sparkle My Little Pony
out of the deal, so she was happy.
I feel pretty much the same way about Rotten Ron’s, but they market those darn happy meals so well it’s almost impossible not to get it for the kids once in a while. The real kicker is when you buy the food and all the kid wants to do is open the Little Pony toy and play with it (although presumably not in your case with a teenager, but you never know…)

And yes, I was still wearing the same shorts.
The one's I'd spilled red shave ice on.
Of course I was still wearing them!
They're antiques!
From a completely different period.
I see what you did there. Well played.

While I have the time, may I just say I’m not quite dead yet, I’m still looking for the holy grail!

I wound up watching The Hobbit for a while.
And I was bored with it.
Maybe if I'd stuck it out it would've gotten better.
Not really. I am a big fan of the original LOTR movies. The Hobbit series fell very flat. Not surprising considering they took a very thin children’s book and turned it into three films padded with filler, much like the syrup in your shave ice.

You should find a PM from me at some point.
I hope you enjoy/are enjoying Montreal.

Yup! :goodvibes

Thats the best time to enjoy the beach!!

It was fun!
Something to do, too.

Nope. NOPE. nope. NoPe. nOpE. even the reminder of what COULD be in the water would be GAME OVER for me and the ocean.

It took a bit of convincing (mentally)
to stay in. I'm not gonna lie.

oh I know!

I kept trying to blank out my mind
and not even think about it.

I was born without that relaxation gene as well.

So you feel my pain, then.

I'm getting a pretty good laugh at the image of you sashaying :rotfl2:

I do it with alacrity and panache.

Penny candy?? oh wait, the penny candy in Hawaii is probably, what, $3 each?

$3.25

I vote badder.

Your vote is added to the tally.

Why would I want to do that?

Grrrrr!!!!! :furious:

Thats an odd arrangement.

I'm an odd kinda guy.

Yes! I see you waving!
(I also see the little smiley waving, too.)

Very convenient! I'm sure they was one too many khaki shorts/syrup incidents prior to that invention.

Nah. Who would be dumb enough to do that???

Sounds about right...

Your math skills are impressive.

I'm available for doing your accounting, too.

Its pretty awesome to see above the clouds and not be in a plane!

It is, isn't it?
Kind of... heavenly?

Coats in Hawaii?! I mean, you are pretty much in outerspace at that point so its understandable..

Yup. They were needed for the wind
if nothing else.

as per their usual...

No kidding.
I've even (a few times) said.
"Is ____ in the bag?"
(A straw, ketchup, napkins, whatever...)
The clerk nods and hands over the bag.

50/50 on whether it's actually in there.

I'm not quite dead yet.

Still alive and kickin'!

Kickin' is the way to be.

and in Canada in February...

Oh? I hadn't noticed.

:sad2:

Glad to see you weren't eaten by any polar bears or robbed by dirty Mike and the boys.

I had to Google what dirty Mike and the boys was.

Ew.

I think I did, but I dont have time at the moment to go back to the beginning lol I'mm try to PM you when i get some more free time!

Standing by!

I'm not dead yet - but I think I'm developing test anxiety, lol!

:rotfl: Now that's funny!

Sigh. But then again, it makes you appreciate Timmie's all the more.

Yep. And 7-11s with more than two flavours of Slurpees..

And spelling "Flavours" that way.

Plus there's some good people in this vast country.

::yes::

Really, both countries.
Heck... most countries I would think.

It's actually very good of her to accompany you - DH won't go with me if he doesn't like the destination.

Don't forget it was Ruby who picked Hawaii.
And note she skipped the beach that day.

Then again, I hate to waste the money if I know he's not going to enjoy himself.

That's why I did my solo Disney trip.
She's not a fan.

And I'm glad that you too advantage of it!

Me too, actually.
I hadn't realized I was getting a little tired
of running around until that point.

Nope. Frozen Minute Maid, all the way.

My fave is the pink frozen lemonade.

Are these the same guys with the clean balls?

I didn't recognize them.
Maybe I should've asked if I could check?

8:40

Nope

Noted.

Got it!

No time googling. But I did go back to look - honesty points!

Granted!

Oh. Oh. Ew. That's terrible. That's an okay flight departure when you're going somewhere. Not when you're coming back :crazy2:

::yes::
"We're going to Disneyworld! Our flight leaves at 2am!"
"Yay!!!!"

Please tell me you're talking about fancy schmancy Lindt bars and you're not paying $2.50 for a Kit Kat

I don't even know how much they are in stores.
I know the vending machine at work has 'em
for $1.50.
So.... anywhere from $1.25 - $2.00?

:goodvibes

Little victories ;)

::yes::

Yeah - they didn't recruit any dads for that particular volunteer bit! Tho I think all the girls with costume changes wore one leotard over the other one.

Not a bad idea.
Providing you can get it to work...
and it looks like they did.

One thing I liked about this dance studio was that they purposefully had all recital costumes based on class leotards/tights, and a $35 costume fee. Each teacher had to figure out accessories within that budget.

That's not bad at all!
(Don't ask me what it cost us
when Elle was doing her max
number of dances.)

Also, each recital (divided by class level) had different colors of tutus, and they were all the same. So, you started with the Pink recital, moved up to Green, and I think yellow was after that. I was sometimes jealous of the gorgeous outfits I would see from other recitals, but not of the hundreds of dollars they had to shell out each time!

When we were watching one of Elle's earlier recitals,
a group of girls came out (one year older than her)
who had on much better costumes than anyone else.
Their dance was also much better than anyone else's.
That's how I found out the studio had a competitive program.

Elle got in the following year.

Yikes. :scared1: As you can see, our dance studio was much more into organization and systems! I wouldn't be happy about not being able to find a 3 year old after a recital - pretty scary stuff.

Our studio is much better now,
with two volunteers per class.
But back then, it was still in its infancy.

I don't really have any firsthand experience, either, but I think most are not that colorful. I could be wrong. :confused3

Could be.

I can't remember - maybe that he included more of the actual lemon than usual? Sadly, I can't ask him anymore. :(

Sorry for your loss.

::yes:: Good excuse.

OK, so the first couple replies are for old posts that I missed...my bad.

Hey! What's with that?!?!?
Is this not the most important thing in your life????

(Don't answer that.)

Been doing the same here with DD16. She started dropping off resumes 2 weeks ago. No luck so far. I'm hoping for some good news soon. Not only for the money aspect (and start saving for university!) but I don't want to go through another summer with a teenager moping around the house...

No kidding. I was so hoping she'd get it...
for my sake.

She hasn't applied on anything else.
The job simply must meet her high standards.

Yeah, like “no food, no gas, you’re screwed”

That's actually the first thing I thought of!
But wasn't sure if "screwed" would make it
past the DIS censors.

I’m still waiting for it to happen. Someday…

Maybe it'll happen by accident.

Oh, about that age bringing wisdom thing, I guess you’re not that old yet…

Yep. I'm just a kid.

(I just look like an old fart.)

I feel pretty much the same way about Rotten Ron’s, but they market those darn happy meals so well it’s almost impossible not to get it for the kids once in a while.

::yes:: Took both DDs (one at a time)
on a road trip to Toronto.
Stopped at McD's for lunch everyday.
Play area + toy. Irresistible.

The real kicker is when you buy the food and all the kid wants to do is open the Little Pony toy and play with it (although presumably not in your case with a teenager, but you never know…)

Mine were okay. They never had trouble eating.
Guess I was lucky.

I see what you did there. Well played.

;)

While I have the time, may I just say I’m not quite dead yet, I’m still looking for the holy grail!

You are?
Huh. Odd. I left it in your front yard.

Not really. I am a big fan of the original LOTR movies. The Hobbit series fell very flat. Not surprising considering they took a very thin children’s book and turned it into three films padded with filler, much like the syrup in your shave ice.

Sounds like I chose wisely (to stop watching, I mean.)

You should find a PM from me at some point.
I hope you enjoy/are enjoying Montreal.

Got it.... and thanks!

I don't even know how much they are in stores.
I know the vending machine at work has 'em
for $1.50.
So.... anywhere from $1.25 - $2.00?

Oh yeah, I guess vending machines are always higher costs.

In grocery stores you can usually get them for 88 cents :P

And Luna again
because you can never have enough puppy pics.
It's the law.*

*Schmidt and Anderson vs Schnauzer 1942**

DSC00997_zpsgcnn3jrz.jpg

So fluffy :love::love::love:

I'm a sucker for fur and fluff. It's a good thing I love Belle so much despite her short hair.

Keep calm... do not run screaming.
Think... You know what? Don't think.
Lalalalalalalalalalalaaaaaaa.....

See, I can't not think in the ocean. So I just don't go in past my toes.

Now we can buy.... nothing.
You can't get much for $2.08.

You can get a gallon of gas by my house!

And hopefully they won't notice
the severed head I left in there.

Just seeing if you were paying attention.
I didn't really leave a severed head in it.

You jest, and yet a couple of weeks ago there was a news story from an eastern NC town where a woman bought a freezer from a yard sale and got it home to discover a dead body.

WOULD YOU PLEASE MAKE UP YOUR DARNED
MIND BEFORE YOU GET TO THE WINDOW!?!?!?!?!?

(And for the rest of you.... you're welcome.)

Yes. Preach. My biggest pet peeve when I worked at Dunkin Donuts was people who went through the drive thru and wanted to ask me about the menu. That's not what the drive thru is for, it's for people who know what they want and want it quickly.

Okay. Show of hands.
How many of you have made
lemonade from scratch?

Not enough and you have a sour mix
that isn't fit to drink.

Heh...so this past weekend I made a pink lemonade cake. Basically you just add pink lemonade powder to boxed white cake mix. I might have gotten a little over zealous. But the good news is my in-laws will eat anything if I call it cake, so...it didn't go to waste

$10 for four people isn't much.
That's what... about $5 a person?

You do math like me.

They tried the doors a few times before...
...walking over to the only other car in the lot.
Another blue Mustang.
That one worked.

This happened to me once! But seriously, what were the odds of finding another white 1992 Camry? Except my car wasn't actually in the parking lot. It had been towed, because we had permit parking and I was in the wrong lot and had forgotten to move it back to the proper lot. Not my finest day.

So just for fun, I'd drive 60 or so,
brake hard, zip around the hairpin
and repeat.

I would do this. My friend and I rented a Mustang convertible to go the beach for a weekend. I started deliberately catching red lights just for the fun of accelerating when it turned green.

Say "I'm not quite dead yet." for bonus points.
(And to let me know that you're still alive.)

I'm not quite dead yet. Almost. But not quite.

Kind of like Josef Newgarden after his crash yesterday.....

Some women use the Men's room
because they identify with waiting
in a shorter line.

So...the one time I tried to do this, I was in Europe with a bunch of other travel agents. There was only one stall, and 5 of us needed to go, so one of us decided to use the men's instead. They opened the door.....and there was no toilet. Just a slightly sloping square that led to a hole.

We elected to wait for the women's room.

Where I had to shovel the driveway
before I was able to park the car.

<sigh> Welcome home indeed.

And this is why I live in the southern US

1. We were supposed to arrive in Vancouver
at 7:18am. What time did we arrive?

7:50am

2. Did we leave Vancouver on time?

yes

So how do you tell me what you saw?
PM me.
It's the only way.

I will.....as soon as I can get on my tablet and actually see the pictures. Work runs IE, and some pictures on the Dis load and others don't. Today is a don't.

(And possibly a few chocolate bars if you're good.)

Can I have one anyway? You can't deny a girl chocolate!

**I made that up. How long did you spend
Googling that???? Bonus points if you tell me.
More Bonus points if you tell me if you knew
what this is about, without going back to look.

I didn't Google at all. Had a strong enough suspicion it was a Dad joke. And yes, I know what it's about, because a)it was related to dogs and b)I used to always forget where footnotes were reading reference stuff in school so now I always make doubley sure to remember

Well, I'm slowly climbing out of my swimming hole for air. Been a wild sort of dip these last few days. I know I don't have time to go back and read any of the chatter as much as I'd like to, but I think I'll be responsible and limit my frenzy of catching up. (I won't mention the cobbler that is also whispering sweet nothings in my ear.)

Your pump (situation) sucks. Or doesn't rather. Sorry about that. I'm about to spend the same on exterior paint for the house and a new kitchen floor.

I'll PM you about my thoughts on another TR....

Wayyyyy too tired to reply or update or .... anything.
Maybe tomorrow... when we get to Montreal.
Maybe not.

I've got some news, although not big, it was good.

I'll share when I can see straight.

Gotta get to bed. Up at 6:30 to catch our flight!

get some sleep, have a great trip. I am catching up on the banter I missed the last week and a half. Jodi benson was amazing. her voice was just as clear as when she first sang the score. trying to write a small tr for the trip even if it was only a few days

Finally made it back here to comment. It has been a very busy spring, with a lot of field trips to the farm and my son's HS graduation.

But,

"I'm not quiet dead yet"

First- enjoy your trip to Montreal. My husband and I went to Montreal for Part 1 of our honeymoon, July 1986. Part II was Disneyworld, January 1987. We wanted to go somewhere cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Second- Adorable dogs! Wow, Luna sure is a cutie.

Third- The Main Event

I always like to hear about beach time. Sorry it was so windy and painful, but that's how you get those awesome waves.

We didn't try Local Boys for shave ice, so our only experience is with Ululani's. We liked it. But now, after your description, I am smiling because they told us if we encountered any dry spots, they would gladly add MORE syrup, free of charge.

Thanks for taking us to Haleakala! We didn't make it there on our trip to Maui, but we did spend our last day in Hawaii exploring volcanoes as well. Gosh, with the $2.08 you saved with the waived cooler rental return fee and the $10 entrance fee, you could buy. Well, again, not much. Maybe another shave ice?

Speaking of, so you follow-up sickly sweet shave ice with Krispy Kreme?

Contest- Vancouver, 9:30 am. PMing you.

I didn't spend anytime googling. I had to go back. Still didn't google.

:goodvibes:
