Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

What's the over/ under on how long it takes before the puppy is being called "Loonie?"

No bet.
That took all of about 20 minutes.

Very very cute though.

::yes:: :goodvibes

Don't tell my DD you got a puppy - she wants one in the worst way. (the worst way being whining and begging for the last 10 years, in case you were wondering).

Oh, shoot! And here I just sent her a bunch of photos
and told her to ask her mom if she could have one.

She works at Gillette Stadium where the NE Patriots play and last year she had to work the Taylor Swift concert. She came home all excited - no, she didn't meet Taylor Swift, she was security for Taylor Swift's parents, who were accompanied by TAYLOR SWIFT'S DOG!!!!! OMG!!! She will never get over the excitement. Apparently the "puppy" was an enormous Marmaduke-type dog named "Kitty." (Look it up - no lie). And also apparently TS's parents were very nice people who, at the end of the night, made sure to bring Kitty over to say goodbye to my DD before they left.

Sounds a lot like Kay. She'd be all over the dog too.

Mr. TS also gave her a handful of TS guitar picks, which he keeps in his pocket to hand out to the little people, but that's another story.

Okay. Let's hear it.

She never stopped talking about it. I told her you are the only person on the planet who, if given the choice of guarding world famous multitalented superstar Taylor Swift or taking her dog out for a walk, would answer, "OMG!!! OMG!!!! Taylor Swift has a dog!!???"

 <Bowls over TS in her haste to pet the dog.>

I took it three years ago, but if I remember correctly the water shot straight up so I could get fairly close for the picture.

Nice shot. I don't remember why they had warnings on the other one.
I guess it could shoot out in a widespread area.

I may never know (without Googling.)

Oh, the horror!

No kidding! I mean... OMG!

I'll try and come back and comment on everything, but loving the update.

:goodvibes

The pictures are truly incredible.

Thanks!

It seems like the people in Hawaii are very friendly and helpful.

::yes:: But then again... they live in freaking paradise.
Why wouldn't they be friendly and helpful?

1. 7:00
2. Haleakala National Park and Hana Coast Rainforest
3. Bird
4.Cream Puffs
5. Did you upgrade the seats to recliners?
6. 2
7. Poke with some type of Hawaiian bbq.
You know I actually had to research these answers. What I do for my dear pkondz!

Noted.
And impressed with your dedication.

How sweet that little puppy is! What did she name him/her?

Just read her name is Luna. That's super cute. Who picked it out?

It was one of the first names the three girls agreed on.
When it came time to pick up the puppy,
we still hadn't agreed on a name.

So when they brought it up again, I caved.

A bit challenging trying to not go too fast for the one
or too slow for the other.

I feel your pain, or at least the pain of the refresher employee. I'm (not to toot my own horn) a quick study, so any training with multiple people sometimes leads to a desire to stab myself. Luckily, at the new job, it's more individual!

Oh! And Luna apparently slept through the night
for the first time last night.

I don't feel your pain on this, because Belle's puppy years were spent enforcing what I call Lion King law - before sunrise, she's Joe's dog. Actually, to be completely honest, before 9am she's Joe's dog. I'm not a morning person. :coffee:

And yesterday, after a few attempts,
we actually got her walking with a leash.
(As opposed to just sitting there trying
to scratch at this thing around her neck.)

I am a big believer in harnesses. I've found puppies to be less resistant.

In other words, you and Kay went shopping to avoid going shopping. :rolleyes1

Ah, but there's shopping and there's shopping.
There's "looking at dresses over and over for an hour"
and there's "getting what you want as fast as possible
and getting the heck out."

But really, what does she actually need to know. Her job is selling overpriced crap to tourists.

True. But for Pete's sake. She must live there.

Much better than $400.

I'm going to go out on a limb
and say... about $385 better.

:sad2: Aside from the cat gif, you really made no solid argument for parting ways.

Oh, no.
There's a huge difference between
standing in a dress shop for 45 minutes
while Ruby looks at virtually the same dress
over and over again,
versus popping into some place that looks
at least possibly interesting...
and then getting out in under a minute.

Oh the horror!!!! :scared1:

Shocking, I know.

Awesome! Your free parking only costs about $299 in overpriced soaps.

Yeah, but it save me a dollar, so...

That really is very nice. I'm glad they were so thoughtful to go that far to help you out. I'd think they'd get tired of tourists who don't know where they're going.

I thought about that...
If there was a steady stream of tourists
coming in asking for directions,
they'd probably have maps printed up.
At least that's what I kind of expected.
Instead... no one seemed to know anything about it.
Led me to think that they might not get asked all that often.

Maybe the ones who know about it,
are the ones who've done their research
and don't need directions?

Makes sense. Hard to have too many must dos when the trip is so quick.

Yep.
Other than the sub ride, the concrete plan was:
"Here's stuff we can do. If we do nothing, that's okay too."

Wow... even more impressive if she got that from a moving car.

It was crooked... intentionally or not I'm not sure,
but other than that I didn't do anything to it.
And yes. From a moving car.

Yeah right...

No, I'm serious.

Oh... you were serious. :rolleyes1

I just said that!
Really, I wasn't hungry at all.
It was more just to nibble on something
to keep Kay company while she ate.

6:45

Yes. Nice banner.

Noted.

I feel like I'm so far behind now! I know I'm still caught up update-wise, but to post my reply three whole pages after??? Sigh.

Life in the fast lane, baby.
Plus... you may have been busy with
picking wedding venues, etc.

It's because I'm only on week 3 of my new job and I'm trying to be a good little employee and not goof off on the computer.

Ah, well, there you go.
It's pretty much an unwritten rule that you have to wait
four weeks before goofing off is not only tolerated, but expected.

And I could use my tablet at lunch, but replying on the Dis takes 5 times longer without a mouse/keyboard.

Oh, I know.
Using it for quoting is next to impossible.

I had to do some research on this, because here in NC, the ABC stands for Alcoholic Beverage Control. Still one of my favorite stores, but last I checked they didn't sell flip flops

:lmao:

What kind of liquor store
won't sell you some crummy flip flops???

I hate those!!!! Found a couple of those in the Caribbean when I was on a cruise. It's also why I have mixed feelings about craft fairs...I love seeing all the different things, but I always feel awkward when the craftsman is standing right there staring at you perusing their wares.

I'm okay at those, actually.
Matter of fact, Ruby's dragging me to a craft fair on Saturday.
I'm trying to see if there's some way I can treat it
like IASW and wear my headphones during it.

Probably not. She'll keep asking me
"Isn't this cute?"

Actually that's pretty much all she'll say.
Maybe I can get away with it and just nod
every time she holds up some horrible trinket
and I see her lips move.

Points for Dad!

Yay me!

Oh the horror! Oh the humanity!

Nice touch.
Now we just need a Zeppelin to burst into flames.

Maybe she recognized a kindred direction-giver

Very good.

I loved this. Had to fake a cough to cover my snort of laughter at work.

Wait a second there sister.
Weren't you just a second ago saying how
you've been not goofing off at work?

LIES!!!

6:38am

Waianapanapa Black Sand Beach? (I'll have you know, I had to copy and paste the name because the ananapapa threw me off....apanapa

Chicken

Something with coconut? I don't know, I don't know what Hawaii is known for. Never been. Joe went as his graduation present and I was offered the chance to come along, but I had to pay my own airfare and as I was in my last semester in college I definitely didn't have a spare grand lying around.

I want free peanuts!!

Shrimp

Noted.

Ok, so, I had your update all quoted out and then clicked on the last page to reply, and saw your response about settling on a name and went "WAIT THEY GOT A PUPPY?!?!?!"

::yes::

I tend to be a little obsessed with dogs.

Uh, oh.
Does this mean you'll be stalking us now?

"Post pictures of the puppy or else!"

I was at the Grand Canyon, and while the rest of my group was ooohing and aaahing and discussing the wonder of nature.....I had wandered off to pet a black lab nearby.

Oh, man.
You and Kay.

I didn't write about it since I thought the chapter
was already big enough, but...

While we were waiting for our sub ride the previous day,
and enjoying our shave ices,
Kay spotted a dog lying down near the check in booth.
The only thing she wanted was to go over and say "hello".
So we did.
She gushed on and on about the dog and petted it.

After we got home, I asked everyone what their highlight of the trip was.
Submarine? Food? Sights we'd seen?

For Kay?
The dog.

Luna is absolutely adorable!! So fluffy.

::yes:: :goodvibes

Joe and I had the same trials and tribulations when we got our puppy. Joe was trying to stay away from a Disney name. I wanted something that could be shortened. I liked Katana, after the Mortal Kombat character. Joe liked Nina. We both ended up liking, surprisingly, Belle. Yes, after the Disney princess.

So neither one of you got what you were looking for!

Her nicknames are Bellaboo and Pupadoo or if she tracks mud in the kitchen, a**hole puppy :rotfl:

:rotfl:

Nice update! Oh sure, why not spring for the $400 turtle pendant?

You know, you're right.
Do me a favour, next time you're there,
could you pick it up for me and mail it?
I'll pay you back. Honest.

Nice you could find the silver one.

::yes::

Sounds like Ruby and Elle helped the local economy out for you.

But it's not our economy!

Well, I was a little bit right. Probably better guesses than WDW, where I have been more times.

You were the only one to guess submarine ride.

1. What time do I leave the room for breakfast?

8:32

2. We launch on an all day excursion.
What is it?

Now, I'm confused - you said one excursion, which you have already done.
I will say Hana Coast???

3. Kay makes a new best friend.
Figures... She's an animal lover.
What is it?
Hint: Not a dog or cat.

a chicken!

4. We try a local baked treat that Elle thinks
is better than mine! What is it?
Hint: It's not been mentioned before. Was it chocolate dipped bacon? No? Okay how about Malassada?

upload_2016-4-25_21-58-16-png.164644

5. Did you see it? Bonus points if you did.

Ponzi's airways?

6. How many beaches do we visit?

One (maybe I'm right this time)

7. What do I eat for supper.
Hint: think local.

local moco - I mean Loco Moco

mmmmm... bacon....
Er... I mean, Noted!

Lol. Season changing tends to take about 3 full months around here, so I gradually change the clothes, too.

I think I'd hate that more.
The gradual disappearance of stuff I need!

Fortunately, some of it simply goes into the hall linen closet, so it isn't too far away. I don't dare do too much at once. The winter boots may go downstairs in June, just to avoid tempting Mother Nature!

Yeah. She can be pretty vindictive if you ignore her.

Because you didn't want to look at clothes.

Give that lady a cheroot.

Of course, maybe if you had gone looking for clothes, you could've gotten new shorts. But apparently it wasn't bothering you, so you got to avoid it. Nevermind.

What does it say about me as a person,
if I'd rather walk around looking like the
survivor of a near murder attempt
than buy clothes?

Oh, the horror!

Bonus points for you!

That was pretty darn cool. Glad you got directions!

It was pretty neat to see.
And I'm still impressed with that nice woman
who chased us down.

Wow - still in first place!

::yes::

1. 6:45
2. Road to Hana
3. Turtle (like her necklace)
4. Ummm...something with pineapple???
5. Now with peanuts! (I did have to scroll back and look after the first reading, even on the big computer screen!)
6. 2
7. Pig?

Noted.

I have a funny feeling I may drop out of first place on this one!

You'll see in the next update how you did.

Hey so I realize you are gone for a few days cuz of busy, this is OT, but you encourage that.

Yep! Go right ahead!

I'm in full planning mode for the three nights that we're in Vancouver before our Alaskan cruise.

Okay.
I have very limited experience there, but I'm with ya.
Bear in mind this was about six years ago, but..
We went to the aquarium (worth it)
and Granville Island Market (interesting)

I know one day I need to get breakfast at Timmy's, but what are your thoughts on The Keg? We have a full kitchen and I'm debating between a big Saturday lunch and then chilling with the folks in the room whipping up an easy snack style dinner, so Fran can sleep off a day driving around Stanley park. Or making her stay up all night at a steakhouse and shortening our day at Stanley park.

Whoo, boy.
I'll preface this with a comment that my parents went not long ago
and did not have a good experience and don't feel like returning.
Please note that any restaurant can have bad things happen,
and they'd been to the Keg several times prior.

Having said that,
The Keg is Ruby and my favourite restaurant.
Ruby is not comfortable in fancy settings,
her parent's had limited income and came from simple backgrounds.
Until she met me, her only exposure to dining out was fast food.
The Keg is laid back and casual.
The steaks are delicious and the prime rib is excellent.

But. It is a chain. The cooks are not world renowned or anything.
So you can get an over or under cooked cut.
But if you do, they have no problem getting you another.

We almost always get the escargot.
One each, since we don't want to not have all of it!
I always get either the Filet Mignon and lobster tail
or the prime rib and lobster tail.

I'm drooling just typing that.

And the Billy Miner Pie is sooooo good.
But by then we're usually so full that we share one.

We're always excited when we go.

OH MY HEART!!! She is the cutest little fluff ball I've ever seen!!!!

::yes:: She's definitely cute! And a fluff ball.

Great update, cute, cute, cute puppy. What is her name?

Thanks, thanks and her name's Luna. :goodvibes

So I'll guess you are off at 7am, on the road to hana (is it still a wild ride ) you gotta see those black sand beaches right Kay makes friends with a gecko and you have some local pastel hawaiano and you see 3 beaches. Oh and oh the horror

Noted.

Oh and oh the horror

And also noted!

luna is just adorable.

Thanks! :goodvibes

we are in the middle of finding homes for four adorable kitty babies right now. that sweet little stray, molly that decided she would "keep us" ended up being a package deal.

And she probably kept it a secret from you until she moved in!

lol, she gets fixed next week but for now it sounds like there is a herd of cattle running amok upstairs.

:lmao:

sitting at work today with my student in her French 4 class we were listening and watching the kids do presentations on countries around the world that have large French speaking populations. saw this on his power point
I cracked up. he had no idea what the tim Horton thing was all about. told him all the cool Canadian kids go there lol

::yes:: You don't expect them to go to McDonalds do you???

I feel your pain, or at least the pain of the refresher employee. I'm (not to toot my own horn) a quick study, so any training with multiple people sometimes leads to a desire to stab myself. Luckily, at the new job, it's more individual!

The worst I've experienced wasn't as a teacher, but as a student.
When I was training for my previous job,
I was in a class with about 20 people.
No matter what (it seemed) our instructors said,
there was one woman who never understood the lesson.
We would spend hours a day listening as the instructor
patiently (then not so patiently) would go over the material...
again... and again... and again.
Everyone was so happy when she finally washed out.

I don't feel your pain on this, because Belle's puppy years were spent enforcing what I call Lion King law - before sunrise, she's Joe's dog. Actually, to be completely honest, before 9am she's Joe's dog. I'm not a morning person. :coffee:

I don't feel pain on it either.
She's the kids problem during the night!

I am a big believer in harnesses. I've found puppies to be less resistant.

That way you can swing them around over your head, too.

:rolleyes1

I just realized somehow I missed the arrival of your little Luna! She must be the cutest thing I have seen, except my grandbabies, of course. Sounds like she is doing well.

Thanks. I'll let my parents weigh in on this one. I just had dinner at my favorite steakhouse (chain) last night and we came back to the room with so much leftover, but it will make an excellent breakfast. I understand that they can be hit or miss when it's a chain, but as I looked online and the place at the waterfront was charging $55 for a Ribeye (our favorite cut) and The Keg was charging like $32, it seemed like a no brainer.

She's pretty darned cute.
When I take some better photos,
(hopefully tonight)
I'll post some.

Like I said, it's our favourite.
Hopefully you'll see why.

(Unless you're not a fan) I strongly suggest the escargot.

Plus... you may have been busy with
picking wedding venues, etc.

That too.

What kind of liquor store
won't sell you some crummy flip flops???

You know, upon reflection, I'm not really sure if they sell them or not. I'm generally looking for a particular item when I go in, I don't browse. Browsing gets expensive.

Maybe I can get away with it and just nod
every time she holds up some horrible trinket
and I see her lips move.

And that's how you end up with a $1200 wood carving.

Very good.

See? I do my research.

Well, no, not really. My supervisor wasn't here the last 3 days :rolleyes1

Does this mean you'll be stalking us now?

"Post pictures of the puppy or else!"

Yes. Truly, yes.

After we got home, I asked everyone what their highlight of the trip was.
Submarine? Food? Sights we'd seen?

For Kay?
The dog.

That's me. Joe calls it my doggie-dar: if there's a dog within 50 feet, I notice it and I want to pet it.

So neither one of you got what you were looking for!

And yet, in the end we both agreed and were happy. Pretty much sums up life, doesn't it?

Everyone was so happy when she finally washed out.

I'll bet. I've had a couple of those in classes before. You just want to bang your head on the desk until they stop asking questions.

That way you can swing them around over your head, too.

Belle's harness may or may not have a handle on the back. :rolleyes1 Mainly because she likes to lunge in excitement at other people when we're walking, and it's easier to hold on to her this way. She's solid muscle, so we need all the help we can get.

It can be lethal to your bank account.

And that's how you end up with a $1200 wood carving.

You really think there's any way I could stop Ruby
from spending on something if she wants it???

If there's a trick to this, let me know what it is!

See? I do my research.

I saw that!
And was impressed.

I was even thinking of giving you bonus points...
But... well... you'll see.

Well, no, not really. My supervisor wasn't here the last 3 days :rolleyes1

Ah. While the cat's away...

Yes. Truly, yes.

That's me. Joe calls it my doggie-dar: if there's a dog within 50 feet, I notice it and I want to pet it.

I like it.
"Doggie-dar"
I may steal that.

::yes::

I'll bet. I've had a couple of those in classes before. You just want to bang your head on the desk until they stop asking questions.

She was either sick one day or late.
We had a class meeting with the head instructor.
Problem solved itself, so it all worked out.

Right now, Luna's solid fluff.

I think I'd hate that more.
The gradual disappearance of stuff I need!

I mainly do that with my own clothes. I probably have more than anyone else in the family, especially since I'm always cold in winter, so I have the most bulky sweaters. My son, otoh, wears short sleeves year round. I quit buying long sleeve shirts for him after we had the coldest winter on record and he didn't wear a long sleeve shirt the entire time!

What does it say about me as a person,
if I'd rather walk around looking like the
survivor of a near murder attempt
than buy clothes?

Um, I think that shows your priorities. But apparently no one ran away screaming. At least, I assume that would've gotten into the TR if someone had!
