Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

Your spam thing for breakfast sounds interesting. In a good way. Better than what we had. We didn't have spam until the last night of our 10 day Hawaii trip. Spam pizza. Blech!!! But at least we paid like $20 bucks or so for inedible pizza. :headache:

POG! YUM!!!

I also read Local Boys and Ululani are the best places for shave ice. We went to Ululani's in Lahaina. :thumbsup2

Atlantis sounds like a fun excursion. My boys wanted to do this in Oahu. I was too cheap to do this, even though it was super convenient and left from the dock at our hotel. Plus, I like to be up close and personal with fish. I have never seen a clownfish snorkeling though. That would be cool. Or a shark. I totally want to see a shark while snorkeling.

:fish:

I believe you that it is one Banyan tree. We didn't make it to that park of Lahaina, so we didn't see it ourselves.

Yikes on your lunch bill! :(

Yellow Submarine

Next round:
1. Name one store we visit.- Harley Davidson
2. How many beaches do we go to?- overall or just on this day?
2 today, 4 overall

3. We split up into two groups.
Who's with who?
You/Kay, Ruby/Elle

4. Did you see it? Or should I say, him?
Bonus points if you did.
If you didn't... you should be ashamed.
I mean really.
Take a good look in the mirror
and tell yourself you're a DISer.

I am ashamed! Missed it twice. But went back and saw it after hint. :sad2:

5. What tragedy befalls Kay at the beach?
(not really tragic)

Drops food in sand

Hi Pokndz
I Missed a few weeks at the start of your Hawaii report as I am too far behind I have given the competition a miss this time .But your report as ever is a good travel guide for anyone planning a trip to Hawaii. Spam is one of the most versatile foods on the planet if you are under a certain age My kids young adults now give me a look of what I can only say is yuck when I substitute spam for a bacon roll the spam is grilled before inserting in the roll cant beet it with a fried egg on top and dollops of tomato sauce. Submarine adventure looks impressive well worth a go.

Hey! You showed up in my dream! What were you doing there?

1. Harley Davidson
2. One
3. You with Elle and Ruby with Kay
4. Mickey got your shaved ice
5. Battery dies

A yellow submarine? But the one in the chapter is white.

It's a very, very, very pale yellow.

You mean we're supposed to pay attention? NOW you tell me.:sad2:

You mean you weren't paying attention? NOW you tell me!

That's how we felt, too. Maybe someday. But I also read that unless you have perfect skies (i.e. clear enough for sun but cloudy enough to reflect prisms of color) it can be underwhelming.

A guy I worked with did it (and the bike ride down, afterwards.)
He said it was really good. Don't know if he just got lucky with the weather.
Still... no time (or major) desire to get up that early
and devote that amount of time to it.

Or six or seven.:rolleyes1 Plus a few re-checks of the clock, because that time can't be right.

Well... yeah. To both statements.
1. I didn't go there because I didn't know if the grossness
tolerance of my audience was that high. And;
2. That goes without saying.
I meant when you finally absolutely have to get up.

I'm convinced hotels the world over have hidden cameras to record each guest trying to figure out their proprietary plumbing systems. Why are they all different?!

I'm sure there are some "hotels" with hidden cameras.

drooling_homer-712749_gif.png.jpg

hmmm... it was really good.
But I don't know if it deserves a drooling Homer.

867-5309?

Got a message saying someone named Jenny changed her number?

Will wonders never cease?? No way you could have paid me enough to try that one.

I'm open to trying weird food.
Sometimes I get lucky.
Frequently, I don't.

I'm also curious how Kay is willing to try that but not a juice made from delicious fruits.

She doesn't like most fruit.
I suspect it's because her sister does.
So we can't have that now, can we?

You'll see plenty of ocean later, I'm guessing.

Heck, we were under it.

Very cool! You were there at the right time of year.

We didn't see many, though.
I thought very seriously about doing a whale watching tour,
given the time of year we were going to be there.
But... choppy seas... sea sickness on a small boat or
smoother ride on a larger ship with 400 other people?

I'll take the sub, thanks.

Hi, Mickey!

The dude says "hi" back atcha.

Me neither. But I do hear that they are good for your heart.:rolleyes1

::yes::

That wins you the understatement of the year award!

:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: Then I won't speculate.

Trust me... you're better off.

I never would have guessed that one. I would normally guess it out of my price range when planning. But still--what a cool excursion! I can definitely see the appeal.

It was out of my price range.
But when we decided to do the luau I'd already earmarked funds.
The sub was about $200 more (in total) so... what they heck.

That's exactly how I remember it!:thumbsup2

Great minds think alike.
Now we just have to figure out why we did.

Jinx!

Just kidding.

 Believe me, I thought it.

Nice one! That's a very "Hawaii" photo.

Thanks!

Captain scared 'em out of the water!

I had to stop.
"Now where have I heard that... oh!"

Got there eventually.
(Said with a Scottish/Russian accent)

Awesome.

Did they pull any Crazy Ivans?

Actually. Yes.
Anything we saw, the sub had to do it again
for the folks on the other side of the sub.

That is just so awesome!

::yes::

Nice find. Way cool.

Actually, funny story.
Even before the sub went down,
we were told that anything seen on one side
would be seen by the other eventually.
He said it wouldn't matter since there were always
people who'd stand up and turn around to see.
So the shark was first spotted on the other side.
"There's a shark just below the ship for those
of you on the starboard side."

And of course we all stood up and turned around.

Lovely view of the backs of people's heads.

Whoa. A submarine WITH Dad jokes?? Is this heaven?

Yup. Pretty much.

And fun for hours for the kids!

So I seem to recall.
Mine were too busy denying its existence.

:eek::faint:

Did it come with a TV or something?

Free napkins.

Harley Davidson store.

I'll say 2. And I'll guess one of them was Ka'anapali Beach.

Ruby with you. Kay and Elle together, avoiding the uncool parents.

Of course! And that's one handsome dude in the mirror.

Uh...sunburn? When I was that young I'd constantly forget or forego the sunscreen, and pay the price. I only come in two colors: white and red.

Noted.

I went to the parks after leisurely waking up - all day, till park closing or close to it, and rode my favorite rides over and over again. I people watched, read books while in line ups, sashayed like a princess whenever I could. And I made sure to watch every single nighttime show every single night!

Niiiiiice.
Soloing has its detractions.
Doing what you want, when you want is not one of them.

DH did not experience any magic, and when I was explaining that I started off my last day with POC, his response was "Again?" This from a fellow who enjoys watching the same movies multiple times, but doesn't seem to understand enjoying an attraction repeatedly? :confused3

:lmao:

I fear he is a lost cause, but it wasn't that much of a surprise. Oh well, I'll keep him away from the parks from now on!

Just like my DW.
She'll put up with Disney, for the kids sake. But that's about it.

It ain't cheap, that's for sure.
But since I'd already earmarked $400 for a luau,
coming up with the extra $200 wasn't too bad.

But.... only one paid excursion.
So no horseback riding or whale watching or whatever.

Plus, I like to be up close and personal with fish. I have never seen a clownfish snorkeling though. That would be cool.

Me too. We didn't snorkel since the water was way too turbulent.
All you'd see would be sand in your face.
I don't remember for sure if I saw a clownfish in Oahu last time.
I think I did.

Or a shark. I totally want to see a shark while snorkeling.

A shark?
I'd go from "Hey! You're in the water!" to "Urine in the water" in a hurry.
Swimming with the ones in Epcot was good enough for me.

I believe you that it is one Banyan tree. We didn't make it to that park of Lahaina, so we didn't see it ourselves.

Big tree. Honest.

Yikes on your lunch bill! :(

Yikes. That is a fairly accurate way of describing it.

Hi Pokndz

Hey Mac! Long time.

I Missed a few weeks at the start of your Hawaii report as I am too far behind I have given the competition a miss this time .

Up to you. Might not be too late to join in.

But your report as ever is a good travel guide for anyone planning a trip to Hawaii.

Aw, shucks.
Just doing what the books and internet says to do.

Spam is one of the most versatile foods on the planet if you are under a certain age

Oh? Interesting. Do go on.

My kids young adults now give me a look of what I can only say is yuck when I substitute spam for a bacon roll the spam is grilled before inserting in the roll cant beet it with a fried egg on top and dollops of tomato sauce.

I might actually try that.
How do you grill the spam? In a frying pan? Grill pan? With butter? Oil? Nothing?
And do you fry the egg so the yolk is runny or hard?

Submarine adventure looks impressive well worth a go.

It was definitely worth it.
We were all happy for doing it.

Hey! You showed up in my dream! What were you doing there?

Again, huh?
I do that a lot. To a lot of women.
It's my sparkling personality...

Okay, it's because I'm like a virus.

Speaking of which, all better now?

1. Harley Davidson
2. One
3. You with Elle and Ruby with Kay

Hi Pokndz
I am asuming that it is the same Spam as we have over here It comes in a tin. Yes just had a look on google it is defanitly the same.Just cut it up as thick as you prefer pop it under the grill then grill it on both sides, the egg yolk should be runny Place both inside a well buttered roll with sauce on top of the egg if prefered. Then bit in and enjoy taking care to make sure nothing escapes from the roll onto your clothes. Its also good just cold as a sanwitch without the egg.But it is not for everyone my two kids and DW hate the stuff I supose it is what you are brought up with we wernt as sopisticated in the sixtys and seventys as todays modern world. not as much choice like today.
For all you spam lovers out ther try it under the grill or as a fritter you may be surprised. For all you Spam haters I would give it a try you may never Know it may grow on you.

Should be the same.
Spam is spam is spam, spam, spam, spam, spam! Lovely Spam! Wonderful spam!

Sorry...

Yes just had a look on google it is defanitly the same.Just cut it up as thick as you prefer pop it under the grill then grill it on both sides

Oh! In the oven!

the egg yolk should be runny

Gotcha.

Then bit in and enjoy taking care to make sure nothing escapes from the roll onto your clothes.

That's always the hardest part...
I know this.

Its also good just cold as a sanwitch without the egg.But it is not for everyone my two kids and DW hate the stuff I supose it is what you are brought up with we wernt as sopisticated in the sixtys and seventys as todays modern world. not as much choice like today.

I'm almost sure I had some when I was a kid.
Still not positive, though.

For all you spam lovers out ther try it under the grill or as a fritter you may be surprised. For all you Spam haters I would give it a try you may never Know it may grow on you.

You never know. I know I was pretty shocked to discover I liked it.

Speaking of which, all better now?
Are you talking about my sickness? I'm on antibiotics for an ear infection and still have some mucus. But I feel a lot better.

Again, huh?
Yeah, it was weird. I was with my family at a museum and all the sudden you show up. We walk around a little bit and then you were gone!

You said no more Banff trip? Why not? What and when is the next trip?

Masochistic?

Must have been the pressure of not having Spam on the trip and this was our last chance. Our meal was so disappointing and I was so tired, I didn't take any pictures. A first for me.

How was it?

REALLY GOOD!!!

We had shave ice at 3 places- one, a hotel stand on Waikiki beach was just an overpriced snowcone. We had some at a strip mall in Maui that was pretty good. At Ululani's they will add extra syrup as you eat if you need it. You could have had them apply more syrup directly to your shorts to make them completely red...

coming up with the extra $200 wasn't too bad.

But.... only one paid excursion.
So no horseback riding or whale watching or whatever.

We blew our budget on a helicopter/land tour of the Big Island and Volcano National Park. This was $600 too. Per person.

:scared1:

Worth every penny!

A shark?
I'd go from "Hey! You're in the water!" to "Urine in the water" in a hurry.
Swimming with the ones in Epcot was good enough for me.

I like that! I'll have to use that one.

My favorite is the promotion I invented for a "Two-for-one Shark Dive: Bring Your Chum!"

I have snorkeled with sharks twice- once at Dolphin Cove in Jamaica and once at the Digs in Atlantis. But I want to do it in the wild. There are a couple of places in the Bahamas where this is offered.

:fish:

For all you spam lovers out ther try it under the grill or as a fritter you may be surprised. For all you Spam haters I would give it a try you may never Know it may grow on you.

My son Nate had Spam for supper last night! Fried in a pan with maple syrup. He wouldn't eat the shrimp and grits that I made.

Should be the same.
Spam is spam is spam, spam, spam, spam, spam! Lovely Spam! Wonderful spam!

We have 5 cans of Spam that we got for Christmas from my brother. 4 now.

He got us tickets to see a local production of Spamalot and gave us each a can (we ended up with my dad's too).

My son Ben was in a production of Spamalot in Jan 2015. He was the Black Knight and the Killer Rabbit.

I had to go back through 21 (or was it 22) pages to find this picture. Chapter links are no longer working in that TR. Since the Dis changed formats since then, it messed up the links.

I don't know how many people on here now followed your first Hawaiian TR, but inquiring minds want to know.

Ok. Maybe not all inquiring minds but T_Man wants to know.

In your opinion, which one did you like better.

Matsumoto's in Oahu?

P1000098.jpg

Or Local boys in Maui?

P1030004_zpstqfr5xxh.jpg

Local boys needs to learn about the holders Matsumoto's has.

Hi T Man! I just want to say thanks for posting the older photo with the current one! So fun to see how the girls have changed. I declare bonus points for you!!!! Oh wsit! I'm not the judge? :confused3 anyway, fun!

Also congrats on the job :jumping1:

1. I didn't go there because I didn't know if the grossness
tolerance of my audience was that high.

As a counter-argument, both @afwdwfan and I are here.

I suspect it's because her sister does.
So we can't have that now, can we?

Makes total and complete sense.

Got a message saying someone named Jenny changed her number?

Well, that figures.

But when we decided to do the luau I'd already earmarked funds.
The sub was about $200 more (in total) so... what they heck.

I can get behind that reasoning. Also, submarine.

Great minds think alike.
Now we just have to figure out why we did.

A blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

I had to stop.
"Now where have I heard that... oh!"

Got there eventually.
(Said with a Scottish/Russian accent)

And yet, the Scottish/Russian thing totally works.

"There's a shark just below the ship for those
of you on the starboard side."

And of course we all stood up and turned around.

Lovely view of the backs of people's heads.

Maybe it was a Land Shark?

...And our friends are all aboard
Many more of them live next door
And the band begins to play...

LOVE the Beatles!

hahah that spam thing sounds weirdly yummy!!

I dislike getting fake periods, too! ( and well, real as well!) hahahaha :0

1. Name one store we visit.
This is an easy one.
I already gave you the answer.
The Harley store!

2. How many beaches do we go to?
2

3. We split up into two groups.
Who's with who?
You/Kay
Elle/Ruby

4. Did you see it? Or should I say, him?
Bonus points if you did.
If you didn't... you should be ashamed.
I mean really.
Take a good look in the mirror
and tell yourself you're a DISer.
Yes! Hi Mickey!!

5. What tragedy befalls Kay at the beach?
(not really tragic)
broken sunglasses?
jellyfish sting?

5. She forgot her music?!

Can I change this answer?!
Well kind of, I just want to make it more vague.
I feel like a disaster for her would be not being able to listen to music on the beach - that's my vague answer.
If it needs to be more specific maybe I should change it to - her battery dies? :scratchin

Ah... shoot.
Ya caught me.
I wrote that whole thing and posted it.
The next update came and....
Oh.... crap. I'd mixed up the safety spiels.
I chalk it up to being sick... and tired.

But yes. The life vest spiel happened... just the next day.

I figured there was a mix up here, and I was a big enough jerk to point it out to the world :thumbsup2

What???? How is that even possible??

There are quite a lot of Krispy Kreme stores, but there are also concessions at a huuuge supermarket chain over here (Tesco), so pretty much everyone in the UK can walk 10 minutes to their local Tesco for Krispy Kremes!

When I was at Uni in Newcastle there was a huge Krispy Kreme store nearby where we would go get midnight snacks

l6JXBxi.jpg

And when my degree results came in my mum ran out the house to Tesco, and returned 5 minutes later with THESE

dE4iI2d.jpg

THEY'RE EVERYWHERE :teeth:

I presume you know how to pronounce it?
When we were on the island last time,
our GPS always pronounced Kamehameha Highway like:
"Continue 1 mile on Kamay Kamay Ha Ha way."

King Ka-maya-maya right?! That's what I called it anyway

::yes:: They are so lucky to get their looks from their mother.

And, oddly enough, the mailman.
Huh.

This made me laugh out loud! :rotfl:

Would you do it for $25,000?

UGH. I like to think not, but I mean, if I was ACTUALLY in that situation where I was guaranteed $25,000... I probably would.

However, I would NOT get in one of those shark cages, where HUGE great whites come right up to you and try to bite through the cage. NEVER EVER EVER.
