Canadian Buffoon's DISmeet vacation - 09/14 - Bowled Over

So I come back and you can't do shout outs and you're leaving! Humph!

When's your next WDW trip? Mine is in 170. Care to meet up?

Gonna make an attempt at shout outs and multi quoting on the phone.

Here goes!

Every now then I get on a breakfast kick. Generally when I've been overseas. Never mind I don't eat breakfast on a normal day, but as soon as it's not available to me I start craving it.

One wants what
one cannot have.

I guess that makes sense.

Same thing happened at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway museum. All the cars on display were the winning cars.....EXCEPT Mario's 1969 car, which was a replica. But we did ask the guide, and he said the original crashed a couple of races later, and the slightly wrecked original belongs to the Smithsonian currently.

Really! I didn’t notice that.
Now have urge to go
to the Smithsonian.

It's not that. Just one of those weeks where everything takes 12 extra steps than it should. And we recently "upgraded" our ATM software, but it's a different process to use it now and people just aren't grasping it.

Never underestimate
A person’s ability to not
understand simple concepts.

Not gonna say it was the only reason I'm following this thread......but it plays a nice big part :upsidedow

Good Chicago beef is getting harder to find—too many mediocre chain versions. The good stuff should have garlic and oregano and such, even without peppers it’s not bland.

They swore by this place.
Dunno.
But the rest was good!

As for the pizza puff, I don’t think I’ve ever had one at a restaurant or fast food dive. Last time was probably junior high lunchroom. :crazy2:

This was not a pizza pop.
It was a puff!
And it wasn’t... anything
like a pizza pop except
for the idea of pizza
in a shell.

::yes::

Breakfast--- eh. Unless I'm at Disney, or on vacation somewhere else, I'm just a cup of hot tea kinda girl.

That sounds like something
a guy would say about
a girl he likes.
“Boy! Is she ever a
hot cup of tea!”

The museum looks really cool! And for someone who rides I imagine it's the pinnacle of all things Harley Davidson.

::yes::

Mecca.

Very, very cool! Does Mrs. Pkondz ride with you?

Nope.
Not a fan.

Love dis meets ! I'm a little nervous to ever try to arrange one, but I do find myself scanning crowds when I'm there to see if there's anyone I recognize from the boards.

I’ve done that a bit.
I’ve read of a few DISers
who’ve been recognized,
but it’s never happened to me.
:)

Well... I live alone and refuse to cook , but I can handle a breakfast recipe! I love overnight oats. I mix up about 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt with a chopped apple, a generous helping of walnuts and raisins, and sprinkle it with cinnamon. Pop in about 1/2 cup of steel cut oats and fill the rest up with almond milk and you've got one heck of a delicious breakfast waiting in the fridge for you in the morning! :thumbsup2

but the duration of your sanity
will be much longer.
Oh, pkondz, I thought you knew me better than that! My sanity left me years ago...

I noticed this curved wall and sashayed over.
Thank goodness. I was beginning to think you forgot how!

Guess I'll have to try it
on my bike.
Do let us know how that goes...

But not before the obligatory
gift shop and poker chip.
Of course!

I turned her off.
I have that effect on women.
Nearly spit out my overnight oats on that one

Sure enough, within a couple of minutes,
@irene_dsc walked in.
Yay! Nice Dismeet :thumbsup2

Some of you may remember Nebo and Smidgy.
So glad you go to meet up with them. So sorry to hear about Nebo's health though :sad1:

Have a WONDERFUL trip!!! :goodvibes Looking forward to hearing about it! :thumbsup2

Time for new recipes.
As per suggestion
(Thanks @natebenma !)
What's your best
or favourite breakfast recipe?

Ironically, it is my husband who prepares most of our breakfasts (on weekends), during the week it is simple fare. And he doesn't really use recipes, mainly puts together leftovers he finds in the fridge so we have lots of omelettes and frittatas. But since you are looking for recipes, if nobody has posted it yet, I think Tonga Toast would be appropriate for this thread.

And this display of tank art:

I think this would be my favorite part of the museum.

Thanks for taking us through the museum and for your generous sponsorship!

I enjoyed reading about your two DISmeets that day. It is so fun to meet people in IRL who have become friends on this board or other online arenas. I appreciate the update on smidgy and nebo. They are truly trip report legends. I'll send some positive thoughts their way.

:grouphug:

Have a fantastic trip to DL!!!

Tonga Toast

Serves 4

Ingredients:
Sugar-Cinnamon Ingredients:
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon

Batter Ingredients:
4 large eggs
1 1/3 cup whole milk
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon granulated sugar

Tonga Toast Ingredients:
1 quart canola oil, for frying
1 loaf sourdough bread (uncut, 12 inches long)
2 large bananas, peeled

Instructions:
For cinnamon-sugar:
1. Mix sugar and cinnamon in medium bowl (large enough to roll toast) with a fork until thoroughly blended. Set aside.

For batter:
1. Whip eggs in medium bowl (large enough to dip toast) until well beaten. Add milk, cinnamon, and sugar. Mix well and set aside.

For Tonga toast:
1. Preheat oil to 350 degrees F in a large pot or a deep fryer. (If using a large pot, use a candy thermometer to make certain the oil does not get any hotter or it will burn.)
2. Slice the bread into four three-inch-thick slices.
3. Cut each banana in half crosswise, then each piece lengthwise.
4. Place a bread slice flat on the counter and tear out just enough from the middle (do not tear all the way through) to stuff half a banana into; repeat with each bread slice.
5. Dip stuffed bread into batter, covering both sides, allowing excess batter to drip off bread and place carefully into hot oil.
6. Cook 4-5 minutes until golden brown. If needed, turn toast over after 2 minutes and cook for another 2 minutes on other side. Remove and drain excess oil.
7. Roll toast in cinnamon-sugar. Repeat for each piece of toast.

You make your own condensed soup!

I do! There are just a few casseroles and other recipes I used to make that call for a can of condensed soup, and I don't like to live without my faves, so I found a work-around. It's pretty easy, and the taste is pretty similar. :)

I guess if I have to chose
between a competent
or a pleasant surgeon...

Yeah, fix me.

::yes:: I also had a few excellent nurses, so I really didn't care if the surgeon concerned himself with my feelings.

I've never been to
a Jellystone Park.
Believe me...
When I was little,
I wanted nothing more.

It's a magical place! I'm good friends with Yogi and Boo Boo now. Ranger Smith's a jerk though.

and then I happen to be leaving
for California.

So there’s that.

:hyper:

It sure sounds like a busy day. I think the motorcycle pictures were actually interesting. I would have never believed the first motorcycle looked so much like a real bike. I wonder if some of those bikes were ever ridden and if they still work? I am sure my oldest brother who is a Harley guy would love the museum too... I think your DISmeets are so sweet. I wish I had known about your trip maybe we could have met as well, although my new state of Texas is rather far from where you're at now. I did see that your airline is sponsoring that lovely shed. Very cool!

Hey there! So sorry to be a stranger!

Hi Tammie! :welcome: to the TR!

Hey there! So sorry to be a stranger!

But you’re here now!! :)

I have just been so busy with studying, trying to do keep up with the things Jim usually does, and sometimes just tired by the time I can sit down to read.

No worries Tammie. I get that life can be busy.

I knew you had another TR out there, but no time to sign in.

Yet here you are! :)

Jim came out on Mar 21st, and we headed to WDW on Mar 24th with Ryan's family and our fam from Anaheim. We had a great time, but it went by too fast, as usual.

It always does.
But nice that you got to go!

I think sometimes it was like herding cats to make the plan work during Spring Break.

I’ve been during spring break.
It’s crazy!

I'm sitting here trying to figure out how to get a F&W in for just the two of us. I'm pretty sure it will turn into a cruise, though.

Either would be really nice!

I'm sorry Kay had surgery. Hope she is healing well. Now back to catch up here!

Thanks.
She’s doing much better.

French Pancakes (Crepes)
Courtesy of my mother’s French aunts

1 cup flour
1/2 cup melted butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 tsp. Vanilla
1/2 tsp. Baking powder
4 eggs
Pinch of salt

Once cooked add your favorite ingredients inside and roll up.

Easy and delicious.

Care to come along?

Yes I would. I watched most of "Harley and the Davidsons" mini series and really enjoyed it. I love history.

Surely you know it? It's been heard
as recently as 2011.

I do remember this on Sesame Street but not the version from 1969.

Upon inspection, they all had names
of people both living and deceased
or companies.
You could pay $250 for the privilege
of having a name inscribed on a
three inch rivet or $1,500 for a six inch.

This sounds very Disneyish.

Guess I'll have to try it
on my bike.

I want to see the photographic proof.

Admission to the museum is $20.
But as a H.O.G (Harley Owners Group)
member, I got in for free.

Free is always good.

There were a whole bunch of early
year Harleys lined up for display.

I like the old ones.

Actually, no you don't.
It's not really there.
Here's another view.

Very cool.

There was also a collection of
bikes used in or for movies, etc.
Like this Captain America bike,

He's my Hero!

I wasn't where I wanted to be
despite her protests.
"Arriving at destination, on left."
Umm... there's a gas station ahead,
not what I'm looking for.

I hate when it brings me to the wrong place.

"Excuse me, would you
happen to know where
The Shanty restaurant is?"

They were very helpful.
They told me to get back
on the road I'd been on
go another couple miles
and at the traffic lights,
it would be on the left.

The fact that they pointed in the
wrong direction was immaterial.
I knew what they meant.

OMG! You're a guy and you asked for directions? I'm very impressed. Not just once but twice.

Sure enough, within a couple of minutes,
@irene_dsc walked in.

Dis Meets are so fun.

We were seated right away
and she recommended the
crab cakes.
I wasn't starving and that sounded
just about right.
I'd never had crab cakes before
so I wanted to try them.
We both wound up ordering them.

Crab Cakes are one of my favorite dishes.

When we were done,
Irene also mentioned that
the Key Lime pie was good here.

Key Lime Pie is another.

Some of you may remember Nebo and Smidgy.
Nebo especially, was very active on the DIS
a few years ago.

I didn't read any of his reports but I do remember him commenting on several reports I was reading.

I'm sorry to say that since this visit
his health has continued to decline.

I'm sorry to hear this. I'll add him to my prayers.

All in all it was a great day.

I do have a breakfast dish and it's real easy.

Sausage Squares

1 lb breakfast sausage. I like Jimmy Dean's.
1 8 ounce creme cheese
2 can flaky crescent rolls

Spread 1 can of crescent rolls on baking pan. Cook @ 325 until almost done.
Brown sausage in skillet on stove top until brown, drain.
Mix sausage with creme cheese in a bowl until well mixed.
Spread mixture on pan of crescent rolls.
Layer other can of crescent rolls. It's a little hard to get this into an even rectangle but just do the best you can.
Put back into oven and cook until golden brown.
Cut into squares and serve.

This is a great breakfast treat and I've also served it as an afternoon treat or any get together at any time of the day.

I forgot to add that yes I did see something. Too bad the shed wasn't the original. Very disappointing.
