Canada vs. America

* i havent read the rest of the thread so i will probably make more posts after this xD

THIS IS ALSO NOT A POLITICAL TOPIC....READ THROUGH AND YOU'LL REALIZE.

This was inspired by my trip to Western NY yesterday, and also talking with Kayla a bit on the SYF thread. Though Canada & America are REALLY similar, there are SO many small difference. I just made this thread so sort of point them out. Add to the list!

(sorry UK/others for leaving you out of the title...feel free to post though!)

Americans say Soda, Canadians say Pop (at least in my area.)
Americans say 'Restroom', Canadians say 'Washroom' or 'Bathroom'
My friends from NY came to visit and were STUNNED that we had bags of milk...so I assume you guys don't have those in America?
America has like a GAZILLION restaurants that we don't have here (like the Olive Garden, Cheesecake Factory, Chili's, Bob Evans, Ponderosa, Sonic, Chick Fil A, Sbarro) just to name a VERY few.
You guys also have a ton of stores that we don't have.

Add to the list. :thumbsup2
Also I thought we could use this thread to ask questions to like "Do you have..." or "Do you say..." etc.

My first question is do you guys have Cadbury chocolate? Cuz I didn't see ANY yesterday haha

Everyone i know says bathroom haha, i've only ever heard people say "rest room" when they are trying to act proper haha

bags of milk ?!

and i know alot of the northern states say pop.
i say soda (:

I always liked them better.
They look like this and you usually buy three bags at a time and you need the plastic milk holder thing.

no offence, but that grosses me out xD

I notice a few differences between Canada and USA that weren't pointed out.

Canada have a Prime Minister
USA have a President

Canada has had a female Prime Minister (She wasn't elected)
USA has never had a female President

USA public voters nominate the leader of the Democrat and Republican political parties
Canada doesn't nominate the leader of the political parties

Canada has Provinces & Territories
USA has States

Canada votes for the political party Liberal, Conservative, Bloc Quebecois (which only runs in Quebec) New Democrats, or the Green party (there are smaller parties but those are the main parties)
USA votes for the President, Democrat or Republican (those are the main parties but there are smaller parties as well)

I don't know if this one is just an Ontario thing or if it is all over Canada....I think this is only a provincial thing.
Liquor is only sold in the beer store, or the LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario)
America sells liquor in grocery stores and convenience stores

Canadian coins has the picture of the queen on them
USA coins has picture of there past presidents

I am not too sure about this but...
USA has $1 and $2 bills
Canada has $1 (loonie) and $2 coins (twoonie)

Thats all I can think of at the moment...

They dont make two dollar bills anymore, they are very rare.
well i think they make them? but not a lot.
actualy.. idk google it xD
i actualy have a couple. idk why xD

Just about anyone can run to be Prime Minister or a Premier. You just have to have the money to start a party.

And on the second bolded thing... They're basically the same parties, just different names, and their agendas obviously change from leader to leader...

Maybe things have changed since the last time I've been but I've seen alcohol sold in stores that weren't LCBO or the beer store, like Wine Rack.
And there's wineries too, so it's not only those two stores that you can get it at.

Yeah, whenever someone has to go to the bathroom (ooh, I just said it) they just say bathroom. Nobody ever says restroom unless you're at a store or restaurant and ask where the restroom is.

We say toilet instead of bathroom. There's no bath in there, and if there was, you're using the toilet, not the bath :p

I got excited when I saw a sign in Ragland Road that said "toilet" on my last trip to WDW...

Nope, the parties usually vote for whoever has the most electoral votes. The public just votes as a 'popular' vote, but the electoral college ultimately elect the president.

Milkbags look very odd. Wouldn't it just be easier for you guys to put your milk in a plastic bottle like us? :p

ALSO, stop hating on Hersheys! :sad1:

Girl I know! Milk bags look sketchy to me. I'd pay the extra for the carton, and then buy milk bags and deposit the milk in the carton.

And yes! to the Hershey's. Hershey's is soooooooo good, but you haven't had real Hershey's until you visit Hershey Park. I live 3 hours away. :p

Thought of another difference! Our movie ratings.

U is everyone.
PG is Parental Guidance.
12A is parental guidance for anyone under 12.
15 is for 15 and over.
18 is for 18 and over.

Curtesy of MOI. xD

Hersheys is kinda nasty. EXCEPT MILK DUDS. Which I can't eat anymore.. D:

oh i've been there it's so cool xD
i used to lovelovelove hershey's but the last time i went to america, i just didn't like it suddenly.. :confused3

I don't like Hersheys a lot. Like I said, it taste salty to me. Somedays it taste like bile.
So while I do like it, I can't eat a lot of it, and not frequently.
Kisses are addictive tho.

The different flavored Kisses are the best. As as Raspberry M&Ms. :D

Oh I didn't know that, thanks for the information. I will certainly Google it.

I agree with your first point, but your second point couldn't be farther from the truth.

Conservatives- believe in cutting taxes and cutting social programs
Liberals - These guys believe in cutting taxes, and/or raising taxes depending on the circumstances or who is leader.
New Democrats - Believe in higher taxes, and social programs
Bloc Quebecois - A separatist party from Quebec
Green Party - Saving the environment, clean air, etc.

Republicans - same as conservatives (see above)
Democrats - Same as liberals (see above)

I don't know about you, but I don't think all these platforms are the same. If all these political parties are the same why would they be running against each other? Wouldn't they all have the same values? what is the point in voting? What would be the point of the different parties?

Yes, I think you are right. What I meant was in Ontario you can't sell liquor in convenience stores or grocery stores.

It is not! Hersheys is good chocolate! I mean, I don't eat a lot of candy anyways, but hersheys is yummy.

I can't believe the amount of hate for Hershey I'm seeing! I love Hershey's!!! They have the best chocolate. I don't need some fancy Godiva, I need Hershey's! I went to Hershey, PA and I loved it.

I'm on the hating side of Hersheys. Sure it tastes OK at first, but too much is sickening.

They don't make them anymore. I have some too though...people gave them to us as gifts.

Maybe you can buy them from the mint, but I've only seen coins for sale there.
