Canada Goose jacket robberies?

Just moved from Chicago to Florida and yes in the North Chicago neighborhoods they have robbed the stores many times and held up folks shopping and on the streets. Pretty nuts for a jacket but it is a status symbol in the cold cities. Save my political opinions but that street crime was going in a bad direction.

Oh I thought you meant those suckers were now organizing to commit crimes, taking peoples' jackets... I do not trust those Canada geese one little bit! I remember one business had a number of them, and they had a problem with the geese chasing customers.

Seriously though, I did not know much of anything about these jackets until I read something online not long ago. It is sad, but it doesn't surprise me that people are getting robbed for these things.

These coats have been pretty popular for several years and have always been a target for theft. Guess there's even more of an uptick. I actually do love these jackets and coats and how they look on me but won't ever fork out the $$$ for one.

I wonder if it's possibly because there may be a down shortage? Maybe due to supply issues and bird flu? And new coats just aren't made with enough down now? And some other companies may be skimping on the down? :scratchin

I was given an Eddie Bauer down coat last week. The gifter said it's too "lightweight" for her. Maybe it would work for me.

But, when I lifted the coat up, it has less than HALF the down a down puffer coat usually has. It can't realistically even be called a "puffer" coat and the way and times we wear one here. It basically looks the same from afar. There are quilted areas filled with down. But, not nearly as much down that older coats & jackets have.

I have a down coat in a color I can't stand now. It's half as long and twice as puffy, filled a LOT with down. It is so much heavier than this new, longer coat.

I saw a review online after, of a different brand down coat and the reviewer said the same thing, that it's too "lightweight" for a down coat.

I may wear the coat in late spring. But, yesterday, when we had the wind chill at -10 degrees, no way!

Maybe Canada Goose doesn't skimp on filling down, and thus these jackets are worth wearing AND stealing?

I wonder if the theft Canada Goode coats is because the new ones don’t have wild coyotes fur on the hood. Canada Goose stopped using it very recently (maybe last month).

Oh, send that Eddie Bauer my way. Those really lightweight down jackets are wonderful; plenty of warmth for most parts of the US, and no having to look like the Stay-Puf man to get it. If what you're used to is a cloth coat, lightweight down is like a miracle.

As to the Canada Goose brand, they know it's worthwhile to steal. My guess is that they steal it because they want a warm jacket, and know that that one has street value should they find themselves needing money down the road (by which I mean next week when the cold front passes.) Anyone who claims to wear that brand for the quality should consider removing the logo patch; I bet anything that the coat would become perfectly worthless to a thief at that point.

Even when the brand isn't trendy, people will "borrow" coats. About 5 years ago my DH had his heavy cashmere dress coat stolen from the courthouse Counsels' Cloakroom. His name was embroidered inside a pocket, so he thought at first someone had taken it by accident and would bring it back, He notified the Bailiff's office, but after 2 weeks gave up and bought a replacement coat, but not such a nice one, because in late January good winter coats were difficult to find. Flash forward to halfway through May, and he got a call from the Bailiff's office; a cashmere coat had been left behind in the cloakroom toward the end of April, and his name was in it, could he come pick it up? He picked it up, and could tell from the aftershave smell that it had been worn a fair bit, but it was otherwise in good shape. He figured one of the fresh-out-of-school and hurting-for-money public employees had probably taken it for the duration of the winter but brought it back when he didn't need it anymore. DH was just thrilled to have it back; he has to walk 6 blocks to the courthouse, and he'd splurged $600 on that coat because it is very warm. If he brings it to the courthouse now he keeps it with him at all times.

in defense-i have dozens that live on my property during the summer months and they are very law abiding and much friendlier than the domestic geese (they will chase down a small child holding a bag of chips at our local parkso_O), might help that they recognize me as the crazy lady who talks to them on a regular basis and leaves treats out for them:rotfl2:

on a more serious note-as for warmth i'll stick with my battery powered heated vest over any expensive overpriced coat. light enough i can put a dressier coat over it but provides enough warmth to be worn on the coldest day (and the battery can be used as a backup phone charger :thumbsup2).

Many of the down coats produced today are much more lightweight and not for severe temperatures, but work pretty well in cold, but not frigid temps. I have both kinds. They started out as a trend called "packable down" coats where you could fold them up and pack them in a suitcase but still have some protection from the cold.

From what I recall last year when I was trying on the Canada Goose brand, they are the pretty heavy, non-packable down and really very warm--like old style types but stylized to be much better fitting and really quite nice looking on. We couldn't bear to pay the price though for my daughter's coat and she got a very similar one in warmth from Aritzia. They are a Canadian company so we hoped that they knew their down coats and it did not disappoint. Pretty comparable to Canada Goose, no logo and about 1/3 of the price.

I never saw Wally wearing a jacket, just a T-shirt. And as far as I know, no one ever tried to steal his clothing.
