I posted this on the Canadian forum awhile back and got no response so I'll try my luck here:

Just curious. Are there any celebrations at Epcot Centre (specifically Canada) on July 1st to recognize Canada Day?

I can't find anything anywhere. You might try on the Community Board also.

I'm not having any luck either. Thanks for your response. If anyone else can recall any past celebrations, please let me know.

Ali

In the past I cant recall that any Canada Celebrations have occurred.

Let's face it, Canadians always get the shorter end of the stick.

There are no "official" celebrations at the Canada pavilion, but Canada Day will be mentioned by the performers there (like Off Kilter), and any of the Canadian folks working at the pavilion will be happy to join you in a wish of "Happy Canada Day." One year, there was a little pageant -- much like the fife & drum presentation at AA -- that was put together by the Canadian CMs who worked at Epcot. But it's all unofficial and not noted on schedules.

As for the person who said, "Canadians always get the shorter end of the stick," I don't think they get any "shorter end" regarding celebrations than do any of the other countries around World Showcase. I don't remember there being a big celebration up at Paramount Canada's Wonderland last 4th of July ...

I'm just talking about the lack of choice Canadians have and the exorbitant prices Canadians have to take.

For example:

The same Uniden 2.4 GHz phone at Costo USA US$35, in Canada approx US$50.

Food in Canada at the similar price level as food at WDW parks

Most Canadian landed-cost prices are equivalent to US street price (for example, my US$1350 DVD player is actually streeting for only $900 in the US, the same goes with cars, clothing, shoes)

Lower pay

and my latest beef (this is directly with WDW) is that they charged US$40 for shipping a DVD and a CD and it took 3 weeks to arrive.

If the above are not shorter end of the stick, I don't want to know the shorter end of the stick

I didn't realize when you made your first comment about the shorter end of the stick that you were talking about all of that. It seemed as though you were referring to the discussion about celebrating Canada Day at Epcot.

Sorry!

I'm the one who should apologize, I didn't realize until just now that this thread is not in the Canadian Visitors board. :p

Well, it's not like Wonderland has a whole section of the park devoted to the US. If they did, I'd expect them to have a celebration for the 4th of July.

I'm surprised there are no official celebrations for Canada Day, even a small one, considering that there are celebrations for Chinese New Year, Bastille Day and Oktoberfest. (according to Fodor's Walt Disney World for couples)

Just seems odd to me.

But at least you don't have Bush as your leader!:sunny:

Well ... Oktoberfest is technically celebrated every day, since the main venue at the German pavilion is decorated out as an Oktoberfest celebration. However, I've never known there to be an official Chinese New Year or Bastille Day celebration except for the years of "WorldFest" -- which was a program where a different country was celebrated each month of the year. I don't think they've had WorldFest since the late 1980s. Both Chinese New Year and Bastille Day celebrations are unofficial, and done by the management and CMs of the Chinese and French pavilions, respectively. There is no official celebration that is advertised or, to my knowledge, coordinated.

Actually several guides that I have read have mentioned a celebration of Chinese New Year every year. I think it would benefit Disney by celebrating each country's special day. I suspect that they probably do something for Canada Day. Has anyone ever visited Canada at Epcot on July 1st before?

Ali

Never heard of anything special done by Disney for Canada Day (aka Dominion Day :p )

thanks
