Canada 150 Buttons-Who Should Get One?

It's a little funny that our American friends only start to care about Canada when they are (apparently) bared from getting something free; I highly doubt many people who aren't Canadian would care about this if it wasn't free/exclusive.
It would be a shame to see these littered all over the ground. I think it's okay to save them for people who will appreciate them.

I really don't care about Canada, but I don't like the idea that the button is only for Canadian citizens who are visiting a pavilion in a theme park in the US where people from all over the world are also visiting. The Canadian pavilion is more than happy to take those US dollars though.

I would feel the same if any country in Epcot did something like that. I guess I just don't see the big deal and I think its a nice thing that people that aren't from Canada would show a little love toward it. That's all.

They won't be all over the ground--just all over eBay.

I don't see how this is any different than telling people they shouldn't expect a birthday cupcake just because somebody else got one. I mean, they won't have enough buttons for everyone, so the CMs decide who gets one. Same as birthday cupcakes, upgrades, or any other pixie dust. (And yes I'm even still a little bitter that we were there on Mickeys birthday and didn't get a button--but I will survive.)

CANADA ROCKS!
A Happy New Year to you and your family from a CANADIAN!!
party:

LOL, I didn't mean it that way, just that I don't often think about you up there or what goes on up there.
I'm sure you guys do rock and Happy Birthday!

Disney World fandom is a wild ride. Such spirited debate over who should or shouldn't be granted a specific button! I live for threads like this one.

We have closure to the great Canada Button Debate.:)

Non-Canadians are being given the buttons after answering(or attemptimg to answer)Canada trivia questions.

They then list "Honourary Canadian" for the Hometown.:)

Anyone who wants to celebrate Canada ...along with Canadiens...should have one. Heck, I sing O, Canada at my Penguins' games when we play Canadian teams. Go North America!!! :cheer2:

I think Canada is just "assuming" that the Button was clearly designed just for Canadians because of the "Hometown" space.

The "intention" by Disney may be for everyone to get one, but,in that case, the "Hometown" space should not be on the Button.JMHO:)

As a proud Canadian,I assume that it means the wearer is helping to celebrate in Canada's 150, even if the wearers hometown is not in canada.
YOU don't need to be Canadian to celebrate with us! Just enjoy the celebration

Yay! Love that! I am nowhere near Canadian but I grew up a hockey fan (in Kansas) and have loved many things Canadian through my life (while my friends were in Mexico for Spring Break, I was skiing in Jasper, Alberta - breathtaking!). If I can show some love to our neighbors to the North, I definitely will. :flower3:

Considering how many C$ I've contributed to the economies of Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff, they ought to consider me a National Benefactor. (Hotels in the Rockies are pricey!)

Probably because the Canadian Pavilion is owned by Disney, an American company. It has nothing to do with Canada at all.

We are back from a recent trip, and my family received the buttons that WEDWDW posted~with Honourary Canadian on them.
A family in front of us was from Canada, and all they were asked was where they were from, followed by a nice conversation about their hometown.
When we asked for them, they asked us where we were from and when we said Ohio, they engaged in a nice conversation with us about our hometown and then about Canada. We explained we were excited about the buttons since we are visiting Canada this summer. They gave us a ton of suggested activities and must-do restaurants and experiences. They did ask us a series of (pretty easy) trivia questions and proud to say we knew all the answers. (They would have helped out otherwise...)
It was fun and they could not have been any friendlier~ which in my opinion, connecting to CMs from other countries is what being in EPCOT is all about.
