This isn't a puzzle or anything. I just wondered where my dd is in comparison to other kids her age in remembering what was just said to her. (This was part of her homework today, and I had to mark whether or not she answered correctly.)

Read this sentence to him/her and see if he/she can answer the questions after the sentence:

Rita likes to drive large blue vans to the playground.

1. Who likes to drive?

2. What does Rita like to drive?

3. Where does Rita like to drive to?

4. How big are the vans?

5. What color are the vans?

Thanks for your help!

I dont know, but Ill do the test on him when he gets home from school and let you know. Im curious to see the results since hes had a very hard time listening lately. ;) Thanks for posting!

my DD could do it when she was 5, but no way DS could.

Here is how my 4 1/2 yr old DD responded.

1. Who likes to drive? - Rita

2. What does Rita like to drive? - A blue car.

3. Where does Rita like to drive to? - The park

4. How big are the vans? - Very big

5. What color are the vans? - Blue

I read the sentence to her once. She did pretty well I think.

The black and white cat is sitting in the oak tree waiting for the brown dog to run away.

1. What color is the cat?
2. What is the cat waiting in the tree for?
3. What animal is in the tree?
4. Where is the cat?
5. What type of tree is the cat in?

My dd told me the cat was red, white, and blue and was sitting in a coconut tree!
Now you know why I posted this!:o

My DDs success with these questions would really depend on whether I captured her attention first before I started reading the sentence. She is bright but somehow can manage to not hear or understand "Get your shoes on" during the morning rush to get her to kindergarten and me to work.

Heres Cams replies....

1. Who likes to drive? I DONT KNOW????

2. What does Rita like to drive? BLUE VAN

3. Where does Rita like to drive to? PARK(I then said another name for park and he got playground)

4. How big are the vans? 18, IS 18 BIG? ROFL!!!!

5. What color are the vans? BLUE

So I guess he got 2 1/2 right.

DS 7 knew them all, but the first one, he got confused with what we he was supposed to say and said Daddy. :teeth:

The second one he got them all right.

I asked my 3 year old and he ran away, not at all interested in this test. :)

My dd told me the cat was red, white, and blue and was sitting in a coconut tree!

ROTFLOL....Oh goodness you just brought back some wonderful memories. This is EXACTLY the kind of answer John-Cole would have come up with at that age, and probably at his age now, 11! Don't worry!! That just goes to show that your DD has an extremly wonderful imagination!! John-Cole does make good grades in school, As and Bs but the teachers are even more impressed with his imagination (like his whole made up family of hillbillies:rolleyes: )

She will catch on to what is right or wrong but if she is anything like J. C. sometimes the right answer won't matter and she'll answer what she sees in her imagination.

My DS is 6 & he just started 1st grade. He can't read yet so I read the sentences to him once.
His answers:
1. Rita
2. blue van
3. playground
4. as big as ours (LOL)
5. blue
...............................
1. black
2. brown dog to go away
3. cat
4. oak tree
5. oak tree
.................................

He didn't do too bad

LOL! I decided to play along and ask my 7 yr old DS the questions. As you may guess from my user name, my name is Rita.

So I ask DS, "Who likes to drive?". His answer, "You".:p :p

DS is 3 1/2 and got these answers: (we had to change the name of Rita to someone he has heard of, he wanted to know who Rita was and what color was her hair, So we changed it to Justin)

Justin
Blue vans
playground
showed us with his hands "big"
blue

My 5 year old daughter got # one wrong in the first one, and # five wrong in the second one. She said "Grand Ma" likes to drive, and the kind of tree was " trunk". She also called the playground a "park".

ROFL, Rita! Thats too cute.

Cam got all 5 on the second one right. I was surprised. Maybe he got the hang of it once he realized what we were doing.

Here are Ryan's answers (he's 5)
