Can you walk to US?

I hear about being able to walk to US and IOA from HR and RP but I was wondering if there is a walk way to US or IOA from Portofino Bay? This is the only issue at this point for not booking PB. It just seems so easy to be able to walk from the hotel to the parks and not have to wait.

We will have our car. Is there a charge for parking at the parks or the hotels if you are staying there?

PS we are big Disney fans, this is our first family trip to US and we are VERY excited. :cool1:

Yes, there is a walkway from the Portofino Bay Hotel. I believe that it hooks up with the Hard Rock Hotel's walkway. An alternative to walking is riding the boat that transfers guests to the parks and Citywalk. Each hotel has their own dedicated boat. Universal also has a bus to transport guests between all 3 hotels and Citywalk as well.

As for parking, the parking fee at the hotel is $12/day for self-parking and $18/day for valet parking. Using the parks' parking garage costs $10/day but avoid this by using the transportations options I mentioned above to get from your hotel to Citywalk and the parks.

One other piece of advice: If you are staying at one of the Universal hotels, join Loews First Program. Joining is free. After several stays, your membership will help get free room upgrades if available at any Loews property. Last month, we received a welcome gift at the Royal Pacific because of our membership.

 Hi there,
You can walk but the walks are not short. I don't know if anyone anywhere has every used a pedometer to measure the distance, that would be good info to know. IF you like to walk than its a nice option but I wouldn't count on getting to the parks faster on foot than by waiting for the boat

One year, in July, I thought I would stroll over to the MK from the Contemporary with my 2 kids in a double stroller. All the websites talked about it like it was no biggie. Well the parks look a whole lot closer than they are & I was pooped & overheated before I even got into the park.

Of course, you might be a long distance runner for all I know but I still thought I might add my 2 cents just in case you are not.

it really would be a big waste of your time to drive your car from phb parking lot to the garage when you go to the parks.

the walkway could take you 15 minutes, give or take a few.

the water taxis are prompt at pbh and run every 15 minutes.

there are shuttle busses that run from each hotel to the area by the studios.

i stayed at hrh and it is only a 3 minute walk to the park using the shortcut way i found. shhhhhh

when i stayed at rph last month, i only used the water taxis.

i took the shuttle bus one night just to see the front of each hotel. did it at night to see it all lit up. i loved it. the shuttle goes from where you get on to the front lobby area of all 3 hotels.

if you are interested in staying at pbh, don't be discouraged from the walk or water taxi ride. anyway you do it at universal from the hotels to the parks is a snap. when you are at disney, it is a lengthy ride by bus from hotels to parks.

come to universal and stay on site for a few nights.
you will be wowed !

It's no distance at all from the Portofino to the parks probably 12 minutes max to the Studios and through beautiful grounds. There are also rickshaws as well as boats and buses so you'll have no problems whatsoever.

Last summer, in the midst of the July heat, my 73 year old mother with severe spinal stenosis & scoliosis made the walk numerous times. She loved meandering down the landscaped paths, reading the botanical signs that identified all the plants.

Even with her slow gate, it took us no longer than 15 minutes to walk from the beginning of the path at Studios to the West Wing entrance of PBH.

My mistake. Let me make a correction to the last line:

Wow, feeling a bit snarky tonight?

Sorry, but my response had nothing to do with your post. I have never made that walk in Disney, so, it baffles me why you would cut and paste part of my response into your reply :confused3

My response to the OP was meant only to illustrate that the walk between Portofino and the parks is very easy and enjoyable with lots to see on the way.

My apologies if you took it personally.
