hi all and thanks in advance. I'm still looking to test the waters on dvc and am thinking about looking for someone to make a reservation. I've seen the points chart for the dvc properties, but my question is-- can you use dvc pts at other resorts such as Poly, CSR, etc? Is there a chart somewhere which details the necessary pts for accomodations?

TIA

Aimee

Yes - you can use DVC points to stay at the POLY.

However, using DVC points to stay at a non-DVC resort is not a good value. You will almost always do a lot better going through CRO - especially if you can get any discount at all.

The point charts for the non-DVC options are on the DVC Members' website - which is not available to non-members. If you post some possible dates, some one will look up the points for you - you'll soon see it is NOT a bargain to stay at the Poly by renting DVC points.

Best wishes -

Last November we met a couple down there. They used 3 years worth of points to stay one week at the Poly. Not a great value. They knew that, but just wanted to stay at the poly.

we joined at the end of Jan. after a return from WDW-with the 2005 points we were given we are staying a week @ the POLY LVC! To me totally worth it! I love the POLY;I say go for it you only live once.Angel

Thanks for all the helpful feedback!

Carol-- I'm looking to go Feb 20 and stay 4 nights. Can you tell me how many pts that would take? Thanks so much.

Well that is during peak season
So for Garden view:
49/night Sun-Thurs and 88/night for Fri and Sat

Lagoon view:
60/night Sun-Thurs and 108/night for Fri and Sat

Concierge:
75/night for Sun-Thurs and 134/night for Fri and Sat

Just for compairson for the point value

For the same time you can stay 7 nights (including weekends) in a studio at SSR for 123 and 243 for a one bedroom.

Here's a link to the 2007 chart for the WDW non-DVC resorts - I think it will work for non-members:

Point Chart - WDW Resort in Florida

In case it doesn't, a Garden View (least expensive) room at the Poly in Peak season (2/15/07 - 4/21/07) is 49 points for each weeknight (Sun - Thurs) and 88 points for each Friday and Saturday night. So your 4 night vacation would total 235 points.

Rack rate (2006) for that room is $485/night ($435 plus tax). Your 4 nights would be $1940. You'd have to find someone to rent you points for less than $8.25 each (not likely) just to break even. Even if the rates for 2007 increase, you're still likely to do better renting directly from Disney - again that's especially true if you plan to stay over a Friday or Saturday, are able to snag any kind of discount or if you think you might have to cancel/change your dates.

Best wishes -

P.S. The posters who say it's worth it to use points at the Poly must have missed that you are looking to rent. I'm just saying that if you want to stay at the Poly, it isn't a bargain to rent points to pay for it.

Stayed at the Poly last May on Dw birthday, booked 2 nights with AP discount. On check in on DW birthday told them so asked for a good rm. Stuck us in back building with a great view of the Monorail. For the price you pay( even with the AP discount) there they should not have rms with that kind of views. Turned me off for staying at the Poly again.

You can use points to stay at the Poly, but it is not the best use of points. The best use of points is to stya at the DVC resorts.

Another poster gave you the breakdown of Poly vs. DVC resort points usage, so I don't need to reiterate it. But I'd rather spend less points and stay in a larger, nicer accomodaiton, personally. If I were to stay at the Poly, I'd do it through CRO discounts etc.

We're doing it in a few weeks.

We had decided to do some other vacations last fall and converted over to reservation points...things didn't work out so we were "forced" to use a whole bunch of points as reservation points, not vacation club, by May 31st. Alas...we are forced to stay at the Poly in a lagoon view concierge room.... :goodvibes

I do have to say, although this is a splurge and a dream fulfillment of DH and I who remember the Poly from childhood, given my druthers I would have preferred a larger DVC accomodation. But with reservation points we didn't have that option.

Good luck with your plans!
