I'm still new to this whole DVC thing. I was wondering if you can use your points to stay at other Disney Resorts. I would love to stay at AKL sometime.
Yes, it takes a lot of points compared to DVC resorts, though. It would be fine on an occasional basis, but the best bang for your buck is at DVC resorts.
Yes you can but the amount of points is quite a bit.
Plus since they are non-DVC resorts the point requirement for a night's stay will go up every year.
For example. I am staying at the Contemporary in the Tower this year in November during the value season part of November. I decided to use my points instead of renting or transferring them out.
My 5 night stay where I check in on a Sunday and check out on a Friday is costing me 200 points. I could stay a full 7 nights at Saratoga Springs in a one bedroom for 8 points less.
No, I doubt it, as the points needed for 2009 non-DVC resorts have not been negotiated yet. And in fact (though I doubt it wil hapen) the ability to stay anywhere but your home DVC resort is not guaranteed.
In fact, the DVC resort point charts for 2009 haven't been released yet, either.
Maybe it will help to compare the points needed for the AKL in 2007 with the points needed for a 1 or 2 bedroom unit in one of the DVC resorts in 2007. You'll find links to the DVC Resort Point charts at the top of the Forum and you'll find links to the non-DVC WDW resorts point charts in this thread:
You'll see that it takes a lot of points per night to stay at the non-DVC resorts - in many cases you could get a 1 or even a 2 bedroom for less! And the points for the non-DVC resorts are very likely to increase for 2009 while the points for the DVC resorts will not.
