Can you use DME in this situation?

I'm sorry, I'm sure this has been asked, but I can't find it. My sister has a reservation at BWV on a Saturday night, but she is arriving into MCO on the Thursday before. She would like to meet us directly after her flight gets in on Thursday night as we are staying at the BWI. Then, we will get her to where she is staying for Thursday and Friday and meet back up with her on Saturday. (I hope this makes sense.)

First, is this even allowed (to use DME "early")? We realize she'd have to get her own bags. We were just trying to save ourselves from rushing from our ADR to get her at the airport and getting her to the resort as cheaply as possible.

TIA

Wow, I think you should call and ask ME about this one.

The problem I would have with it is this....each DME 'trip' is tied to your room reservation. So, if her room reservation doesn't start until Sat, she may have a problem using DME several days beforehand. Is there anyway you could add her to your room reservation for one night, so that she could give that info? Otherwise, I would have her call DME and ask directly, or just book Mears. She would probably end up on the DME bus anyway. I would be curious as to what they (DME) tell her.

Her DME reservation must be for the day she is checking into a Disney resort, on your room reservation or hers. (She may have arrived in Orlando & environs earlier.)

Currently the Mears Shuttle counter is next to the Magical Express welcoming area. (Not sure of the distance between the respective counters after October 2 when ME is moved to the "B" side.) She can attempt to buy a ticket at the Mears counter and just follow the directions Mears gives her. Often Mears customers are commingled with ME guests.

DME reservations can only be on arrival and departure dates.

Tyler, I know you are the expert, but that is not quite true. DME reservations can be anytime between the arrival and departure dates, just not before or after.

I have 14 nights at Ft. Wilderness, I'm driving in. I've got a couple of friends staying with me for part of the trip and they are using DME.

(Although, I have stretched it to not having any hotel the last night and taking DME for the first flight the next morning. Since they picked me up at 2:30 am for a 5:30 am flight, I saw no need for a room.)

Check your airline luggage allowance. You might take your sister's luggage and just keep it in your room.

Mears will cost $18. Gas, tolls and parking will almost cost that.

It really is true....you see, your friends won't be trying to take it on a day before they are to check into the resort. Now, if they tried to arrive at MCO two days before you checked into Ft W, then they wouldn't be able to do it. My dd and dh were able to use DME the day after I arrived, since they were on the reservation, and were going to the resort (I had already checked in). But, I really don't think there is a way to use DME if you are not 'officially' on a reservation on the day of your usage.
Love the idea of no room for that last night!! That's something I may have to use down the road, especially with some of my very early morning flights out.

I actually feel silly trying to address this issue after Tyler did, but let me take a stab at it and see if I'm right ....

EACH PERSON can use DME only on THAT PERSON'S arrival and departure dates. So in your case, you have ressies at FW for 14 days. Your friends staying with you part of the time don't have to use DME only on YOUR days of arrival and departure, but rather on THEIR respective days of arrival and departure. I'm assuming you reported to Disney the days your friends will be there, rather than telling Disney they are staying with you the entire 14 days.

How'd I do???

Yeah, that's true. Except to make things easier we have them both leaving at the same time, when in reality only one is leaving. The 2nd person is actually staying through the end of the reservation and riding home with me.
