I think I've read on these boards about people transfering ressies from TA to TA to get certain deals. If you can do this How do you do it and do your assigned rooms stay the same?

I'm just starting to seriously look into possibly taking a cruise and being the deal getter that I am I wonder if I'm getting the best deal and could it possibly get better after I make a ressie.

Thanks for any help.

You can not transfer the reservation. You have to cancel the original and rebook.

While you can't transfer from one agency to another, you can book directly with Disney Cruise Line reservations, then transfer that existing reservation to a travel agent. That's what I did...everything stayed exactly the same except the price. I save many hundreds of dollars by transfering the reservation to Costco.

If Costco still books DCL, I'm sure you'd get a good deal there without all the rate-shopping. But most agencies that book a lot of cruises are usually able to guarantee that they will meet-or-beat anything available at that time IF YOU ASK. Your best rate is normally with earliest booking. If DCL later adds a perk like onboard credit valid for your sailing date, your TA can usually add the benefit to your ressie. AAA Travel offers free soda mugs. AMEX Travel has a "White Glove Package." I think DU will keep you updated on best available rate up until your final payment is due (?). It is best to select DCL directly or your own TA and stick with them for personalized service. But if price is the bottom line and you don't mind the possibility of screw-ups and added stress, you CAN first book with DCL and then transfer to a TA if desired.

Thanks for the info.

I think the person had book with DCL and transfered to DU. So, I wasn't sure how the process worked.

Ok, I have a question

I have booked and paid just the deposit with DCL for my September 2002 4 day cruise. Can I somehow switch that to AAA now in order to get the free refillable mugs? I don't want to cancel and rebook.

Thanks for the help!

Also, shipboard credit doesn't seem to be available for castaway club members at this time, has anyone successfully gotten it lately?

Thanks again

You can transfer to AAA, just call your local AAA office with your current reservations number and I am sure they will gladly take over your reservations. Make sure that the soda mug deal is not just for 1 mug per booking or just for uses in the parks and not on the ship.

My ressie is thru AAA. Received my docs on Friday for 4/14 Wonder. The documents include a coupon to be redeemed in one of two locations--Promenade Lounge and don't remember the other (docs are downstairs). The coupon lists the number of mugs to be received--in our case 3-one for each person.

You can transfer your reservation to a Travel Agent from DCL very easily. If there isn't anything wrong or mixed up with your original reservation, there's very little chance of a problem with it after it's transferred. If you need to make changes after it's transferred to a TA, just verify that it's correct using the same caution that you would anyway.

In January, I transferred two new reservations that I made directly with DCL for the $99 voucher offer over to the AAA office. They're professional people that handle cruises often and they did just fine with it. The only thing that changed was the agent info, the reservation number, the cabin number, and even our choice of main dining stayed exactly the same. In fact, they helped me make changes after the transfer and it worked out just fine.

The AAA refillable mug offer is for everyone that sails during the calendar year of 2002 and is good for one mug for each person that is on the reservation. When we sailed in January on the Magic, my DW and I both had a refillable mug as well as a certificate for a 10% discount for merchandise over $75 from one of the onboard shops and a 10% discount for equipment rentals on Castaway Cay. We'll get the same benefits when we sail this fall with the $99 voucher.

It is generally considered unethical for one TA to take over a reservation directly from another TA. Most of them will insist that you have the reservation transferred back to DCL before they will take it over.

Hope that helps.

I did it!

Well, I called AAA this morning and successfully transferred my DCL reservations to AAA. We will now get 4 refillable mugs (1 for each member of my party) which is a savings of $80 for the 4 day cruise. And, we also get discounts in the store on ship if you spend $75(which I don't think we will) and we get 10% off of non motorized rentals at CC. A good deal all the way around. You just have to be a AAA member.

The only drawback, I can't call DCL and request any changes myself, any changes have to be done thru the TA. But, I don't think we'll be making any changes anyway. Our reservation number stayed the same by the way. We also kept our same cabin number.

When I book shore excursions before boarding, you don't think I will have to do that thru AAA do you?

Thanks all for the info here, I didn't think it could be done and because you guys said I could, I did and I am very pleased with my little bargain. We probably won't all use the mugs but how nice to have in case!

Thanks Again!

You can book your shore excursions directly with DCL after the final payment has been made and after the 60 day window. You can do this in advance by calling them at 877-566-0968, or you can wait until you're onboard. Pretty sure that I read if you use the AAA 10% discount for non-motorized rentals at Castaway Cay, it has to be done with guest services onboard the ship.

You can also fax them in, not sure of that number though, maybe someone else knows?
