Can you stay at Disney's Hilton Head if you are NOT a DVC member?

Couple of questions here:

1. Does Disney rent Hilton Head rooms to NON-DVC folks? If so, is it on a short notice basis only .....like only after they know that there is a room available because DVC members don't want to use it?

2. Do you call CRO to book? Or who do you call?

3. Since my parents live only 1.5 hrs away from me (they live on CAPE COD, MA)...and I've grown up there all my summers.....what would be SO DIFFERENT at Hilton Head (compared to Cape Cod) that would make me want to drive from MA to SC...and spend all that $. ??? (I did read the other Hilton Head thread already too.)

Any input anyone?

I think you can. I know, we have inquired about adding a "cash night" onto our reservation. We would handle that through DVC but I think you can call CRO directly and find out the rates and all. You might have better luck getting answers to your question over on the DVC board.

We love HH. We went to Cape Cod many, many years ago. I think Cape Cod is much more spread out than Hilton Head. What the difference are, I really don't know.

Yes, we have stayed there for a night twice when we have been vacationing in HHI and our timeshare (not DVC) didn't start until the next day. Give the front desk a call.

We paid cash for the only two nights that we ever stayed there. Of course they were weekend nights which might have made them easier to get since members tend to shy away from those nights.

On the left menu bar is a link to reservations. You can book rooms there just as you can any DVC property. There are always some rooms which are not sold at each DVC, just so they are available for the public to book. If you book this way, you will get housekeeping each day, just like a regular resort. If you rent points from a DVC owner, the housekeeping is different. At least in WDW, I would assume the same applies.

If you are going to stay there, choose the one bedroom instead of the studio, they are much nicer!

Looks like you don't even have to take a tour, that used to be a requirement, now they just give you information. Now that HH is sold out for points, it's possible they don't run tours there anymore.

HH is mostly 2 bedrooms, there are only a few studios & 1 bedrooms. A friend of mine stayed with the special offer a couple years ago and had a 2 bedroom for just herself & her husband! And after saying she had no plans to buy, she came home a member!

OK. I am going to dissent here.

I LOVE Hilton Head and I am a DVC member. If you are going for more than just a few days I recommend renting a villa in either Sea Pines or Palmetto Dunes planataions (Kind of like fancy subdivisions). I perfer to be able to walk to the beach and I love riding my bike around the plantations. I have stayed at DVC and the accomodations are excellent. The location just does not get it for me. I have used Shoreline Rentals in the past and been very happy with them.

HHI is our home resort and I absolutely LOVE its location. Having the beach house across the street doesn't bother us at all. The grounds of the resort are beautiful and very relaxing, however, if it's oceanfront you're looking for, then DVC there isn't it.

As other posters said, yes they have a certain alotment for cash reservations and I know you can call the resort directly to find out.

Now..........the differences between Cape Cod and HHI? I have spent many, many summers on Cape Cod and it is one of my very favorite places, but I must say that HHI ranks right up there and might even possibly surpass it (for me). HH is not as big as Cape Cod, and it has a very "southern" feel to it. It's shoreline is different than the northeast. The vegetation and landscaping is very lush and very beautiful. One HUGE difference is that the water, of course, is much warmer than at Cape Cod. The people, I found, are extremely friendly and hospitable. The atmosphere, as a whole, is very laid back. I think it will be a very different experience for you than CC. Have fun!
