We have decided that we just cannot let 2006 go by without another trip to Disney. Since our children are at the age where we really can't take them out of school for a week, we are faced with school vacation dates, like every other family in the U.S. Since we are in the Northeast, the earliest school will end here is 6/20. What is the better choice - the week from 6/25/06-7/2/06 or 8/20/06-8/27/06? School here would not start until 8/30. We have gotten spoiled going in the cooler, less crowded months. We know it will be hot and drippy, but I would rather have hot, drippy, and less crowded than hot, drippy, and packed. Any suggestions from you veteran Disney travelers? This would not be our first trip down so we don't have to do the "everything or die" touring plan!

Thanks in advance! ::MinnieMo

I wnet the last week in August 3 years ago, and it was one of the best times we went. Heat was not so bad and crowds not so bad either!! Hope this helps!

We are going June 25th - July 2 and have gone that time before it's only as bad as you make it parks stay open a little later so you don't mind hitting the water parks or resort pool midday.

I went in late August 10 yrs ago and hit hot hot hot humid humid drippy unbearable weather. (we are from the NE too) I was there for my girl friends wedding as her maid of honor. It was so sticky we had to stick our hands in ice water (I mean melted ice cubes w/ plenty of ice still there) to get our nailpolish to dry!!! The day of her wedding a hurricaine hit. UNBELIEVABLE! They couldn't leave for their honeymoon that night as planned. Next day, the storm moved on....and myself and other guests started touring the parks. They were a mess from the storm, the weather was still hot hot hot humid & drippy....the crowds....sorry to say....very large. We opted to do things like the steamboat ride, the RR, and Tomorrowland transit authority as they were some of the only attractions w/out lines! (And we're veteran Disney goers) I went in May last year and it was hot too...but not like August. i would never go in August again...but then, maybe others are saying that and it won't be as crowded now for you...I don't know.

We went in August for the 1st time in 2004 (last 2 weeks) and it was much better than
I could hope for. The heat was bearable and the crowds were smaller than we expected.
We are facing the same school issues for 2006 and are leaning toward the last 2 weeks.

Same school issues. We have been during August for the past two years because of school. Yes, it is hot, but I don't find it unbearable. Spent two whole days at the water parks - nothing better, my kids had a blast. We always went to the parks early and then took a pool break in the afternoon and went back at night. The best part - very few lines. Soarin', Test Track, Splash Mt. those were about the only lines we waited in. Most attractions were walk ons.

That being said, it was hot. My kids would wear one t shirt in the am and something else at night and I ended up doing a load of laundry (which I NEVER do on vacation) because we went thru so many clothes.

We're going back in August 2006, only this time to Universal. :earboy2: Have Fun!

Thanks everyone for the input - We are definitely leaning towards going 8/20-8/27. I can prepare myself for the heat but I wasn't sure I could handle large crowds. It's helpful to hear the crowd level is manageable. The added plus for us is we've never been to Disney when it's been warm enough for the water parks, so the kids are happy we'll finally get to BB or TL. Like someone said, August in Disney is still better than August in my backyard!

Thanks again! ::MinnieMo
