I was all set to book for POR or POFQ, but found out we will be there during Pop Warner. We can't really afford a deluxe, and we stayed in Mexico for our honeymoon so we're not really interested in CSR. I never thought about CBR because I had my heart set on POR, but I was hoping some of you might be able to help. What do you love about the resort? What buildings are the best? How is the food? How is the noise level in the rooms? Is there any nighttime entertainment for the family onsite? What are the amenities you enjoy? How does the pool rate with other resorts? I have seen many polls on the moderates and CBR never seems to fare very well but I'm hoping those of you who love it might sway me the other way. We've never been to WDW and want our first family trip to be something special. I guess just being at WDW qualifies, but we will be there for 10 days and will also be spending ample time at our resort. If you know of any threads that show some good pics I'd also be up for that. I've looked at allears and Safetymom's, but am looking for any more you could offer. Thanks in advance for your help, it is much appreciated!

We love the resort because it is so spread out. It just seems less hectic and more relaxing that away. We stayed in Aruba on our stay. It is just right across the bridge from Old Port Royale. Aruba and Jamaica are right across the bridge from the food courts. Martinique and Trinidad North are the preferred locations. They are located next to OPR. The food at the food court was good. The kids meals at the hamburger joint came in plastic buckets with shovels for them to keep and play with on the beach. I never heard any of my neighbors. (I heard them all the time at ASMo) I did hear the turbo toilets from other rooms ocasionally. You can see Illuminations fireworks from the beach. The main pool is cool. It will be closed from Jan 08 till June 08 I believe. The quiet pools are more than adequate. The quiet pools are bigger than some of the main pools at some of the hotels that I have stayed at.
Check out my pictures below. If you have any questions, just ask. I haven't been this year, but will try to help you out.
BTW, my kids love this resort. We talked about staying somewhere else next time, and they went ballistic! They want to stay at CBR again!
The tropical theme is great. The landscaping, the music in the background, just everything is wonderful!
I hope that your family enjoys it as much as mine if you choose CBR. Where ever you choose, your family will have a great time.

CBR is my favorite moderate resort (and I have stayed at all of them). I too love the spread out feel of CBR as well as POR and CSR. The way the buildings in the different villages look different, so pretty and charming with their pastel colors. The noise level was the quietest resort we have stayed at. Maybe since this was the first mod resort built, they built them a little better not sure. But our room was always very quiet and the grounds are so lovely and peaceful, I could have spent days just wandering around the resort with my book and camera, enjoying it all! We found the quiet pools to be the nicest quiet pools we have seen, and the lake is also very nice. One of the things I really liked about CBR is that you could see Illuminations from many spots around the resort. The bridge that connects Aruba to the main pool area is a great spot. Granted you see only the high up fireworks, but CBR is so close we could faintly hear the music of Illuminations. You can even see the top of Spaceship Earth from a few spots which just made us feel very connected to Epcot and the magic. We have stayed at Boardwalk and frankly had a better view of Illuminations from CBR than BW. Foodwise, we enjoyed the food court and had a very nice meal at Shutters. One night we were just too tired to go to a park and we got a last minute reservation and it was great food (loved the prime rib and coconut shrimp) and so nice to be right there at our resort.

It was my kids' favorite mod and even though my sig says we are staying at CSR next May (we like to take turns ;) ), I'll be sort of surprised if we really do. Not that we didn't love CSR but CBR and its tropical theming just really appealed to us.

We also had excellent bus transportation, which I think in some ways is just luck. However, I did like that CBR has an internal bus system. It seemed very reliable, much more than the golf carts that circulate around CSR. And these are the same nice, airconditioned buses they use to the parks which would be nice on a hot day. We never used it because we enjoyed walking around the resort but it was nice to know it was there.

We stayed in Bldg. 16 in Barbados and absolutely loved that location. Around five minutes to the food court and main pool and about two minutes to either the quiet pool in Martinique (our favorite of the quiet pools) or the one in Barbados. The quiet pools seem much larger than the other mod quiet pools and were one of the reasons we loved this resort. It was so nice to have seven pools, all of them nice and large to choose from.

It is a mystery to me why CBR doesn't rank higher on the polls. It has been refurbbed and maintained and our room was spotless and had new carpet and new mattresses. They are the largest mod rooms on property. Not by a lot, but every square foot counts when you have four people in one room! They have double sinks which CSR did not (POR and POFQ do however). The room just felt more spacious than the other mods. We stayed there, a family of four for 9 nights and had not one issue. The main pool might be its weakest link, but I think its still a great pool. And the quiet pools are the best so that evens things out. This was the first resort I always wanted to stay at but some of the sour comments regarding it on the disboards made me think we shouldn't. I couldn't have been more wrong. And I have to say, lately (as in the last year or maybe even a bit longer) I see nothing but stellar reviews of CBR. So I think whatever issues it had, it doesn't anymore. And it is spreadout, but it didn't feel anymore so than CSR or POR. POFQ for example felt too small for my family and that pool is way too small (even for a resort that size) in my book. And no quiet pools is a big bummer. So we all like different things. But I love CBR and I think you will too! Good luck and enjoy your planning!

Okay, I just looked at Atchley's pictures, if those don't sell you, nothing will! I think I am changing my signature to CBR for next May! I forgot to add in my above post, that we spent more time at our resort on our CBR trip than any other. It felt like a vacation within a vacation. My kids (10 and 12) really enjoyed just walking around the resort, there was a little courtyard with a table and chairs near our room and often dh and the kids would sit there in the morning while I got dressed. They always said that was the best part of the day, just enjoying the peace and quiet before heading to our fun in the parks. The beaches on the lake are great for relaxing (they have hammocks) or building a sand castle. They have many places to relax, on benches and hammocks, the resort just sort of invites you to enjoy it. I agree, with whatever you choose, you will love your trip. I have to say POR is wonderful too, but if Pop Warner is going there, I wouldn't be!

Don't have time to post a full review, but I say ditto to all of the above. :thumbsup2

My family was dreading our stay in '05 because of all the negative reviews, but we LOVED IT at CBR!! The only mod I've not stayed in is CSR. CBR is 2nd only to WL for us. As a matter of fact, we're staying there again this December for 2 nights before boarding the Wonder for 4 nights! :)

CBR remains our favorite resort! It is beautiful and the rooms are very quiet. It is super to have so many pools--I've yet to see one crowded. The resort is colorful without being garish.

CBR is definitely, by far, absolutely our favorite!! I have pictures in the links below -- feel free to look through them!! All the other posts sum it up well -- CBR is like having a vacation getaway within your Disney vacation!!

Thank you all so much for your great responses. I called DH over and we read them together and looked at the pictures and we are seriously considering CBR. All of the points you brought up make a big difference and I look forward to doing more research on this resort. Do they have any live music performances with tin drums or anything? Do they play caribbean music around the resort? Any other extra activities that fact sheets may not mention? Thanks again for your help:thumbsup2

There is Caribbean Music playing throughout the resort all the time! I think next time we go I'll look for a CD of the music played there. Laying in the hammocks on the beach at night is wonderful. Just can't wait to go back. I have exactly 365 days from today (factoring in that next year is a leap year).

Not sure if it was already mentioned but CBR has the largest rooms of all the moderates- the rooms are the same size as WL.

I also love the food court and theming.

Another vote for CBR. We love it there -- so much so that we stayed 3 years in a row. The theming is wonderful - so relaxing. You really feel like you're in the Caribbean when you're sitting outside, the music playing, the breeze blowing. It's just so nice!

Our favorite building is Martinique #25 or #26. They're close to everything. We never had any problems with noise. There are a ton of pools (nine of them!), a whirlpool/hot tub, and white sand beaches you can sit on. You can also rent bicycles, surrey bikes, boats, Sea Raycers... There's plenty to do without even leaving the resort.

:wizard: We love CBR!! We had previously stayed at ASMo and wanted to upgrade to a moderate. While we were trying to make our decision for last year's trip, we were worried about some of the reviews about CBR, but booked it anyway. We were so happy we did! It is so beautiful and relaxing there. After rushing around the parks, it is so nice to get back to the resort and unwind. The Caribbean music is always playing and the grounds are incredible. We were very happy with our room and especially loved laying around the "quiet pool" in the afternoon before venturing out again. We did get a preferred location and thought it was worth the extra money. We loved it so much we booked it again for this August and can't wait to go back!

We're slowly trying all of the resorts and our next one will be CBR for 8 nights. I can't wait after reading all of these reviews. I actually have really liked both POR and CSR. Honestly, I've liked all of the Disney resorts we've visited and stayed at. And it makes me even happier that this resort is so spread out. I love the long walks back to the room at night after a hectic day. Thanks for the reviews!!

I suggest taking a look at the CBR FAQ thread. You will find many many satisifed guests of the resort.

We love it at CBR. I have stayed at POR, CSR and CBR by far is our favorite.

Great reviews! Thanks a bunch for all the info and great vibes! Sounds like it is a really peaceful place to be, which I think must be really important after a long day at the parks! We are a pretty private family too so it sounds like there is a lot of space to walk around and unwind without being on top of other people. I have one silly question...the music sounds great, and I love Carribean music, but I was wondering if they play it close to the resort itself? I have stayed at some resorts locally that do that and it ends up keeping me up at night until they shut it off  Thanks again for everything!

You won't be able to hear the music in your room. It is mostly played along the walkways. It is "rock" music.:lmao: :rotfl2:

I've only ever heard it by the pools and in Centre Town (Old Port Royale). I've never heard it near the rooms, and definitely not from inside.

thanks for the confirmation. I like the idea of "rock" music :) SOunds perfect! One more question, I read that there is an internal bus system. How long would you normally have to wait for one and do they run on a schedule?

We never used the internal bus system, but while we were waiting for buses to the parks, they seemed to appear quite frequently. There are probably only one or two buses that run around the resort at a time, but when talking about driving around the resort, it shouldn't take that long. The buses are full sized buses like that go to the park.

I recently wrote a review of our ten day June, 2007 stay and posted it here on the boards. It may answer other questions that you don't have posted. I also posted pictures but I can't find the thread right now. Here goes my review:

We have stayed at the CBR two years in a row and have enjoyed both stays. The minute we drove onto the CBR grounds we fell in love. The tropical theming is carried out throughout the resort. The buildings are all painted bright colors. The grounds were well maintained with fruit trees and lush foliage everywhere.

You will need to check in at the Custom House. Unless you have major problems during your stay (which we never did during either of our 10 day stays), you will probably not go back to the Custom House until you are ready to check out. That being said, it is not necessary to request a room near the Custom House.

The Concierge Desk is where you will pick up your dinner show tickets. They can also provide you with a printout of all your ADRs.

Bell Services is located at the Custom House too. If you arrive via Magical Express, you can request that Bell Services take you to your assigned building. You can also use Bell Services at check out to help get your luggage (and yourself) to the Custom House.

The CBR is a large resort but this means that the guests are distributed evenly throughout the resort and you won't feel crowded.

During our June, 2006 stay, we were assigned to Jamaica Building 41. Our upstairs room faced a beautiful lush courtyard. The walk to any destination was not long at all. I especially liked crossing over the bridge and through the island to reach the main pool and food court. Tropical music is piped in for your enjoyment.

During our June, 2007 stay, we were upgraded to a room in Martinique. In my honest opinion, the walk from our preferred location seemed just as far as the walk from Jamaica. I really don't think I would have paid the extra money to stay in Martinique. That's not to say that we didn't like it because we certainly did. Our room faced a very pretty courtyard with bright umbrella tables.

The rooms at the CBR are 340 square feet whereas the rooms at the value resorts are much smaller. Believe me, when you start getting all your people and all their luggage into the room, you'll be glad you have the extra space. We are a family of four (ages 41,41,20 and 10) and we have plenty of room at the CBR.

The beds at the CBR are raised off the floor providing you with a great space to store your empty luggage. There is a nightstand, a table with two chairs, a large mirror, an armoire with television and lots of drawers, a refrigerator, a bench with large storage drawer and a peg type shelf in the bedroom area.

A privacy curtain can be pulled to separate the sink/closet area from the bedroom area. This comes in real handy when you've got several in your party.

There are two sinks in the sink/closet area. They are enclosed is a wooden vanity with storage area beneath. The closet has a long closet rod and our room had about a dozen wooden hangers already there. I brought along two dozen more and we still had plenty of room to hang all of our shirts.

A small safe is located in the closet wall. It's pretty slim and you can't store much more than a camera, a wallet, etc.

A hairdryer, iron, ironing board, refrigerator and coffeemaker are standard in the CBR rooms.

The bathroom was the typical hotel/motel bathroom size but our's was extremely clean. There were no loose tiles, mold or mildew. I checked!

Mousekeeping was great. During both stays, we received five towel animals. Our trash was taken out and our floor was vacuumed daily. We had four people in our party and we were given six large towels every day. They also replinished our coffee supply each morning. I tipped our mousekeeper each day.

I was really surprised at how quiet the rooms are at the CBR. We hardly ever heard our neighbors. If they were walking by, we would hear them if they were talking loudly. Most times, it was just quiet.

Each village has their own quiet pool and neither the Jamaica nor the Martinique quiet pools were busy at any time of the day. Some times, we had the pool all to ourselves. Laundries are located near each village quiet pool. You can swim and do laundry at the same time!

The white sandy beaches in each village are swept clean each night. It was so nice to just sit in a beach chair or laze around in the hammocks.

The walk around the promenade is very pretty. You can get a real feel of the resort by taking this 1.4 mile walk. At one point, you will walk on wooden walkways through a wooded area. The flowering trees and bushes are everywhere. Plenty of picture taking opportunities along the way.

The main pool was pretty crowded during both of our stays but we expected that since the temps were in the high 80's/low 90's. The hot tub and hair wrap station are near the pool. Order a tropical drink at the pool bar and sip it at any of the numerous umbrella tables.

At the marina, you can rent pontoon boats, sailboats, canoes, watermice, bicycles or surrey bikes. Fishing excursions are now at the CBR too.

Each village also has their own bus stop. The bus stops are covered (I hear they are not at the value resorts). We never waited long for a bus. As a matter of fact, at times, there were two and three buses at the bus stop at the same time. Because the CBR is so centrally located, it never took us long to get to any Disney destination.

I was pleasantly surprised by the food court/store/arcade area. The store is divided in two with one side selling Pirates of the Caribbean, Caribbean Beach Resort and tropical merchandise. They even sell coconut postcards that you can mail home to friends and family. The other side of the store sells the more traditional Disney merchandise such as snowglobes, t-shirts, purses, watches, hats, scrapbooking items, etc.

The arcade is not super large but it had plenty room to keep up with the June crowds. You purchase a refillable playing card that you just swipe at each game. No keeping up with tokens or change.

We really enjoyed the food selection that the food court had to offer. You go to each of the food stations, order and get your food and then go to a central cashier. Simple to do.

The grab-n-go section serves fresh made sandwiches, salads, yogurt, fresh fruit, pies, cakes, veggies and dip, along with lots of other fresh items. At the pizza station, you will find pizza, pastas and salads. Burgers and chicken strips are served at another station. The kids chicken strip meal is served in a plastic sand pail with shovel. Yet another station has rotissiere chicken, roasted turkey, vegetables and hot sandwiches.

At breakfast, an assortment of breakfast meats, Mickey waffles, fresh fruit, pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns and omelets are served.

Shutters is a full service restaurant and the food was good. Even our picky 10 year old son found something he liked on the menu.

The food court seating area is large and we never had a problem finding a table. The self serve drink area has several drink stations. On the condiments bar, there was hot tea bags, honey, assorted jellies, parmesean cheese, hot pepper sauce, etc. There are also a couple of microwaves and toasters.

If you want to take your items to go, just tell the CMs who are plating your meals. They will provide you with tops for the dishes. At the register, ask the CM for a bag. They give you large brown bags with handles making it easy to carry your items out.

Hope this helps, Lisa
