can you push the beds together? (POR)

I'm going at the end of November with most of my family. My son and his wife and their two children (ages 3 and 11 months) will be staying at POR. Their children sleep with them at home in their king-sized bed. Can they push the beds in the standard room together to make a bigger bed, or are they attached to the floor?

(They did ask about the rooms with king-sized beds, but were told that not only do they cost extra, but they would have to pay for cots for the children as well. Don't know why.)

We've moved beds against the wall at All Stars but I never moved them together. I guess if you move the nightstand that is in between the beds it might be doable...that might be nailed down though - I'm not sure. ?? If you moved the nightstand you'd have to find a place for the phone, clock radio, etc. not sure how long the extension cords are.

Be prepared...you'll probably find a lot of crumbs, dust, etc. when moving furniture around.

You might just want to ask for bedrails and put the two kids together in one bed with the rails. I would think it would be really hard as there is a nightstand in the middle of the beds. Also, keep in mind the beds are not moved often so the carpet under them might not be that great. And, I'm not sure what housekeeping would do with that.

At some properties you can't move the beds at all as they are on pedestals attached to the ground. That is how it is at POFQ but can't remember at POR.

I'm not sure if they would allow them to get a room with a king size bed with that many people. You might want to ask about that.

The rooms at POR (at least in the Alligator Bayou section) are not attached to the floor, but they are pretty heavy! When we stayed there in May, a mousekeeper had apparently moved the foot of the bed away from the wall so that she could make it more easily, and she never moved it back.

I would opt for Dad and one kid in one bed, and Mom and the other kid in the other bed. They do have bed rails that you can use for free.

If they can't push the beds together, their plan is to have Dad share a bed with the 3-year-old and Mom with the baby. They just thought that the kids would sleep more easily if they were all together like they are at home!

Teresa, My family is having the same problem!! We do the family bed thing here at home--hubby, 4 year old and almost 2 year old (who still breastfeeds). When TA requested king size, they said no. She said punch in 3 people and it still said too many people for a king! I really think this is ridiculous--the only hotel I've ever heard of that you can't get a king sized bed. You pay enough for the rooms already, seems as if you could at least get the size bed your family needs and is used to.
We've got to figure out a solution--my kids have NEVER slept without us and I hate to be away from Hottie Husband, but I guess he'll take one and I'll take one!
TA says maybe we can upgrade when we get there, but I'm not counting on it...

Perhaps requesting a rollaway bed would allow you to reserve a king bed? Just a thought? There would be room in a king for a rollaway. Then when you got there you could explain and perhaps they wouldn't charge you for the rollaway???

While I've heard of families being able to get king beds and rollaways once they are at the hotel, Disney will not allow more than two people to reserve a king room. I'm not sure why that is, but there are way fewer king rooms than doubles. Maybe Disney doesn't want Mom and Dad to reserve a king and make jr and jrette sleep on the floor. Personally I'm glad as a couple we are not competing with families for the few kings available.

I don't think the POR beds are bolted down, but they are probabaly very difficult to move, and I doubt Mousekeeping/POR would be very happy about it.

I wouldn't be surprised if your kids are so exhausted from all the fun in WDW that they won't care where/who they are sleeping with, as long as they have a comfy bed.

Alot of the beds have a base platform around them making them really difficult to move without taking them apart. Carrabean Beach actually has four feet touching the floor and they could be moved easier but it was still difficult. There are times when the headboard is mounted to the wall so it can not move at all.
