Can you pool hop on rented points?

but do you have to be staying on points or can you pay cash and still use the dvc perks?

we're going in the summer but it's a last minute short trip and we're paying cash.

we've never pool hopped before and might not but i just wonder if the option is there

it is my understanding that you must be a member and be there on a points stay.

Technically, when pool hopping the DVC member is supposed to be prepared to show I.D. (either their DVC membership card or their resort key card which will say "DVC MEMBER" below their name) when arriving at the "hopped" pool.

That stated, over the course of dozens of "hops" during a decade of DVC membership, there has not been a single time when we were asked for this. In fact, early on we would be courteous and actually call the resort we planned to hop to before arriving, just to make sure the pool "wasn't at capacity." We stopped doing that once it became clear said calls were a complete waste of time (CMs could never get an answer to the question and in most cases didn't even understand why we were asking).

I could even take that last tangent into a some entertaining discussion about the so-called "hopping blackout" periods...but won't...;)

which pools are we able to do this at?

i heard there is a list of pools not on the list

the pools at YC/BCV (all of them, not just SAB), BLT and AKV are off limits for pool hopping. everything else is fair game, subject to them not already being full...

I think you are not allowed to hop at:

bc/yc (sab)
akl/akv
cr/blt

but not 100% sure.

You must be on a reservation through MS, not DRC to pool hop. If you booked one of the Disney deals through DRC or just are either saving points or ran out of points and did not book that cash reservation through MS, you cannot pool hop.

ohh - i booked online.

guess no pool hopping for us.

not that i think we were going to but the option is always nice.

Per MS website:

Pool Hopping Information
Whenever you are staying on your Membership at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas, Disney's Beach Club Villas, Disney's BoardWalk Villas, Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Disney's Vero Beach Resort, or The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge, you and any Guests staying with you, are permitted to use most of the other Disney Vacation Club and Walt Disney World® Resort hotel pools (in addition to the pool at the resort hotel at which you are staying) if they are not at capacity. If the pool you are visiting reaches capacity, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate Guests of that resort hotel. Please check with a Host or Hostess at the Front Desk of the resort hotel you wish to visit before you go to find out about pool-access availability. You must present your current "Key to the World" card with your "DVC Member" designation on it to use the other resort hotel pools.

Pool hopping is not available at Bay Cove Pool at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Uzima Pool and Samawati Springs Pool at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, and the leisure pool at Disney's Beach Club Villas. There are no exceptions to this policy. As a reminder, during times of high occupancy, please be mindful of the limited number of pool chairs available, and refrain from leaving towels or personal items on unoccupied pool chairs.

Resort hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected, Disney Vacation Club Members and any Guests staying with them may not pool hop during the following dates*:

February 14-20, 2010 (Sun – Sat)
March 27 – April 10, 2010 (Sun – Sat)
May 28 – 31, 2010 (Fri – Mon)
June 27 – July 5 (Sun – Mon)
Sept 3 – 6, 2010 (Fri – Mon)
Nov 22 – 28, 2010 (Mon – Sun)
Dec 12, 2010 – Jan 2, 2011 (Sun – Mon)

*Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity

It would nice if this policy was actually enforced. We don't own at BCV, but my family has stayed there multiple time when the resort was the host hotel for conferences I regularly attend that are often held there.

Each and every we have been at SAB (and we're talking a range of seasons here, high, low and inbetween) I and hubby have noticed the SAB staff is to say the least sloppy about checking the I.D. of those entering the pool area. We always see many people in the water without the supposedly mandated wristbands and have never once seen a CM or lifeguard blink an eye at that.

In other words, while DVC members who are not staying at BCV are told to keep out of SAB, the gates are pretty much open to anyone else who wants to wander in.

Per my earlier post, I can with almost 100% certainty guarantee that anyone here who actually follows that policy (either face to face or over the phone) will end up with one thing: a clueless, confused, dumbfounded "front deck host/hostess" who will subsequently say "I need to check." Said CM will then disappear (or put you on hold) for 5-10 minutes and eventually return. At that point you will hear various forms of blather that basically translate into "uh...er...I tried to find out the answer to your question...uh...er...well.....the pool staff may know....perhaps you can go down there....uh....er...have a magical day...uh..."

Ultimately, the lifeguard has the final say on it anyway.

We've only hopped once, and not only got carded, but they insisted on the blue DVC member card, and the room key. It was the Poly pool, it was busy, and we were obviously not Poly guests (i.e. we had all our clothes and park stuff with us).

OHHH i didn't know you could hop to other resorts.

can you see wishes from the Poly pool? that would be neet to be in the pool during that

Interesting - we've hopped to the Poly several times and didn't have that experience. Perhaps it was because we didn't arrive on the deck in street clothes (we changed in that area underneath and behind the Volcano before going poolside, so I guess we looked just like any other Poly guests by the time we were approaching the water). "Busy" is relative at that pool, because of it's relatively small size and the way it's enclosed in the landscaping it doesn't take very many people in and around the pool to make it feel "active."

Kurby, you can se a little bit of Wishes from the shallow end of the Poly pool, but the least obstructed view is down on the beach.

Or we hit it during a period in time where Poly guests were complaining about MK day guests using their pool and they were clamping down - who knows. But in my experience, it isn't unknown that they will card, and they will card for all possible cards.
