Can you pay for Dining plan with gift card?

Hi

Planning our first trip and I keep coming up with more questions.
DH, DD6, DD3 and I are staying at WL in December this year, but not during free dining But will get a $500 gift card.
We are looking into purchasing the dining plan - 1TS, 1CS and 1 S PP per day. My husband asked if we could use the gift card Disney will give us upon check in to pay for the dining? If so, I guess I would have to purchase the plan after we check in. Does anyone know if this is allowed or has anyone done this before? Also can the price change between now and December of this year (4 weeks)?

Actually the dining plan has to be purchased 72 hours before arrival. So no you can't use the gift card to pay for it. Sorry.

You can use it to pay for your meals at the restaurants though, if you don't get the dining plan.

No, you can't.

You don't get the gift card until you check in, and you must add and pay for the dining plan no later than 3 days before you arrive.

You can also charge meals back to your room, and use the gift card to pay off the room bill.

Thank you. It sounded too good to be true. But it never hurts to ask. I didn't know the dining plan had to be purchased 3 days in advance. Glad I asked.

wait....I have some disney reward gift cards I was planning to apply to our DDP, is that do-able? I thought I was able to pay at checkin for the ddp?

You cannot pay at check-in for DDP unless you are on a DVC reservation that was made prior to October 14.

If you are on a package reservation, you can use your gift cards to pay off your balance. You'll need to call Disney to do this.

No they require the DDP to be added and paid for 72 hours before arrival. DVC policies have also changed so you have to added it and pay for it before the 72 hour mark and it must be paid upon adding it.

For DVC the deadline is 48 hours before arrival, not 72.

now I'm confused...the cm on the phone didn't mention this... I am staying DVC on a trade in reservation,and called and added DDP a couple of months ago,have had res. since 5 months ago,does the date make a difference?

Yes if you made it before the new system upgrades then you can still pay at check in (2 of my vacations are this way and I will pay at check in for them) it is going forward if you have not added before the system upgrade you will have to pay for the DDP upon add on.
