Can you laminate paper passes?

It seems that if you purchase your passes anywhere but thru Disney, they are paper. Has anyone tried laminating them? Would they still work in the turnstiles?

Mine are paper, and I got them through Disney. You can not laminate them..they won't go through the machines to be scanned when entering a park : (

Well you can laminate them but when you go to use them at a park turnstile and they won't work, the gate CM will send you over to Guest Relations to have the tickets replaced before you can enter. ;) The passes have to be able to have the magnetic strip read on the back. If it is covered by anything even if it is clear, the information cannot be read by the computer. It would be the same as if you laminated your credit card and then tried to use it in the ATM/credit card terminal at your local supermarket. It wouldn't be able to read it.

The paper tickets are really very durable. They are a mylar paper that actually holds up pretty well. The one thing that tends to cause them problems is getting them soaking wet. They must be biodegradeable too. ;)

thanks I was wondering about this also....so hopefullly ncybryne won't mind if i go OT a little... but what does everyone use to keep them safe and dry in the park. I am thinking of AP which has to last a whole year with out going throught the washer or getting wet, dropping out of pocket or getting mixed in with money..would a wallet be a pain since they probably would not slip into a credit card holder slot well if they are that thin and i know how quickly I would lose it in with cash, the first time I pulled out a bill, it would be gone. any suggestions?

I use an inexpensive vinyl photo wallet (with ~ 4 pockets) that come in various colors from Claire's. It has enough pockets to carry your ticket, plus a driver's license and credit card.

I stuff mine in my fanny pack in a nylon wallet. They made it through many water rides. When hubby left his at the hotel, it was very easy to get another (you need your driver license), so I wouldn't worry if something happens to them....they have you on computer (and it wouldn't hurt to stop by guest services and make sure).

I keep mine in my wallet at all times - it fits fine into a credit card slot.

However, if it does get wet and too mangled to go through the turnstyles, it's no problem! I washed my AP right after we got home from our first trip, and it came out readable but ruined (not so the paper holder it was in - that was mangled beyond recognition!). While I probably could have used it in the turnstyles, it was pretty beat up so I took it to a ticket window at Epcot (International Gateway) and they replaced it in less than 5 minutes. I even got Minnie this time! Yay! :)

Mur!

I have never had an AP last one year. They are VERY easy to replace. I have even forgotten mine. Just go to guest services give them your ID and you get a new one.

thanks you. this is a big load off my mind as I kept picturing $400 going down the drain. is there anything you need if you do need to replace them such as a receipt or do they use the finger scan thing? I saw that is it is a good idea to make copies of passes but was wondering how I could do that since I wasn't planning on having my copier with me(lol) and wouldn't have a validated one till we arrive.. I can not tell you how relieved I am.

If you have an AP, then once you have exchanged the voucher for the active pass all you need to get it replaced is your photo ID. That's because they will have all your information in the computer already and your photo ID proves that it is you who owns the ticket.

If you lose the voucher prior to activating it, you will have to prove both that it existed and that you owned it. The best way to do that is with your purchase receipt and a photocopy of the back of the voucher. If you don't have either, then copy down all the letters and numbers from the back of the voucher and store them in a safe place away from where you will be storing or carrying the voucher. That way, if you lose the voucher, you will still have the information with which you can get it replaced. If you do not have the necessary information for Disney to authenticate your voucher, then you will be out of luck. It will be like losing cash.

thanks, I saved this info just in case, hopefully will not need!

I know what you mean about the copier :)
If you have a digital camera you could take a close up photo of the back of the pass. Depends on how paperless you'd like to be.
