Can you just walk in and get a room?

The trip is about 7 hours from Daphne, AL to WDW. It's our halfway mark.

i went last april stayed at wdw then over to tampa to stay with my dad for a couple of days but since we had an early flight out of orlando the day we were leaving we spent the night before back in orlando this is what happened , wthru the travel agent , i got a room near the airport with a 4 o clock hold no money down, then i booked a cheaper room near downtown disney, just in case we wanted to stay there agasin no money down, well by the time we got done eating and doing some shopping by dd, the kids still had more shopping it was almost 3 pm, i called the room by the airport and said i was in kissimmee and could they hold the room a little longer cause the kids wanted to shop some more and they would not without a credit card, which i never use, so we went to check into the hotel near dd, and they were having some problems with security and such i just got a bad feeeling about the place, so i got back in my car and went over to as music resort where we had stayed at the beginning of our trip and inquired about a room there i also heard you can usually find a room there and sure enough we got one there sure it was going to be more expensive and i paid the difference but its like i told my friend, its clean, its safe and we can take the buses to dd to finish shopping and maybe get a ice cream atr ghiradellis, after we pack the car for the next day and thats what we did. and that waS the day after easter, so it was still a busy season.

February of this year (middle) my family and I decided to take a last minute trip to Disneyworld during Mardi Gras (escaping New Orleans). Everything according to CRO was booked on site so we booked offsite. I had heard about rooms available at the welcome site in Ocala and thought I would give it a try. The CM at the reservation desk checked his computer and said that nothing was available. We moved over the the ticket desk to purchase our Park Hoppers and told the CM working there that we were really disappointed we could not stay onsite. She asked other CM if he had tried calling resorts and he said no. She started calling and found us a room at the AKL right off the bat. Was not able to give us a discount due to the amount of buisness the resorts had, but we loved the Resort and felt it was worth it. This is the reason it seems we are drawn back to WDW year after year.

P.S. Drove by our pick for the offsite resort and realized that we did the right thing. We definitly find that the disney ambiance is what we go for.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR ALL THE REPLYS! That's the great thing about this website, everyone is so helpful. Thanks for telling me about the disney info center. We will definitely be stoping there, even if it is only for a bathroom stop. Hate stopping for a bathroom stop when you don't know the area, but with disney, we will know it's clean and safe. When we decided to take this trip, we were only going to drive from L.A. to Austin. But then we thought, hey we might as drive to WDW while we are already half way there.
Thanks again, I really do appreciate all the great info and replys! This DISBOARD is great.:)
