Can you have 'day guests' at DVC resorts?

We found out that friends of ours will be at Disney the same time we are going to be there. Are they allowed to come over for an 'evening' visit (not to stay over night) with us? Can they park at the resort? Can their daughter swim with my daughters at the pool?

We just thought it would be nice to get together at OKW and maybe have dinner at Olivia's and then chat for a while afterwards, but I wasn't sure what the rules were like for visiting (nonstaying) guests.

Thanks!

I don't think you will have problems - just may sure that front desk and the security guard know you are expecting guests.

Now this is at OKW - at BCV or BWV - to get your friend's child in the pool I think they need a room key.

are you staying in a 1 or 2-bedroom they are great for entertaining!

We will be in a 1 bedroom, it will be our first trip to OKW. The units look lovely, we can't wait. I have a feeling we will enjoy them very much. We were THRILLED to learn there was a basketball court. I have a daughter who loves basketball!

the basketball court is only a half and it is kind of hidden over next to the tennis court - when you check in - if you park close to the building in the back - you can see it. okay that is not a good description - maybe someone else can post better directions of where the basketball court is.

but I love to entertain in a 1-bedroom - it was made for it!

We have had "day guests" at OKW. We just told them to tell them at the gate that they were visiting us and told the front desk. They had no problem parking in front of our building and we all went to the pool. We also lunched at Olivia's.
I think that the pools are easier at OKW than some of the other resorts because the resort is not as accessible to non guests.

We've had friends of ours join us the past two years in August for the day; last year it was at BWV, and yes we left their names with the desk & they had our room number/name to give at the gate. We all spent the day at Luna Park (guests: husband, wife, DIL & two grandkids) & it was fine with BWV. However, it was the last week in August, and the pool was never crowded during our entire 10 days!

I'm not sure about the room key at BCV. I asked this question of the CM and they told me that my guests just had to be with me. That was in late October...there was moderate occupation in YC/BC because of a big convention, F&W and MNSSHP. I imagine that they wouldn't expect you to have a huge number of people per guest with room key.

My best friend and her family moved to Orlando 3 years ago so we always have day guests when we're there. Two years ago we had a 16th b-day party for my DD at OKW (1 bdr) and we had plenty of space. We had our family of 4, my friend's family of 3 and another family of 3........plenty of room for all. We don't really do the pool thing, our kids are older, but at OKW I'm sure there won't be a problem. We like the turtle pond pool, it's less crowded and since there's no slide at either we like the quieter pool.

We have friends that live in Tampa. They always come over to visit. Just tell you friends to tell the gate that they are visiting you. They may take their names. In fact, we always book a larger place so our friends can stay the night. We always have extra room for extra people, never know who will show up.

Maybe I am just a stick in the mud, but I guess I have a problem with some of the posts on this thread. I understand the desire to have guests and understand under some circumstances that this adds to the magic of the trip. However, at resorts other than BWV (where they expect outside visitors to the Boardwalk entertainment district), outside visitors make it that much more difficult for resort guests to find parking and to use the resort facilities. For example, there is limited parking at OKW in the area of one's unit. Adding two or three times the number of people that a unit is supposed to accomodate and adding extra vehicles for those people does put a strain on the resort and potentially on the enjoyment of other guests. As an OKW owner, I am dismayed that people say it is OK to bring in outside guests to use the pool there but maybe not at other resorts. If you want to have guests in your rented unit , great. But please be considerate of other guests and other owners in what you do and what you expect. And, yes, this does have some analogies to the forbidden topic of occupancy limits.

I can see how one could feel that way and like many things it depends on how far it is carried. I would certainly have no problem with the number up to the occupancy limits of the unit. One could add them to your reservation and I don't think anyone would have a problem with this situation. Beyond that I think reasonableness and the occupancy of the resort comes into play. 2 or 3 over the room occupancy total if the resort is not that crowded should be fine. A party of 25 is a different ball game. I think they should be registered somewhere for liability purposes but they generally do that anyway when they drive in.

I certainly wouldn't begrudge anyone having friends and family visiting them. I also wouldn't worry about the usage of the facilities as long as it doesn't take away signficantly from the usage of the guests registered there.

We haven't done this yet, but probably will for an upcoming visit now that we have friends who live in Orlando. To me, as long as you don't abuse the policy or overdo it (having guests that cause a ruckus, etc.) , it just is part of the "Home away from Home" aspect. You have friends over to your house, right?

Also, people come from outside areas to eat at Olivia's, so it doesn't seem much different to have them to your room. I suppose the pool is trickier, but I've not seen the Old Key West pools overrun yet. I try to have a live and let live policy whenever possible.
