can you have a kohls merchandise credit applied to your kohls charge?

my husband returned something and they gave him a merchandise credit -- like a gift card.

Can I just take that back and have it applied to our kohls charge account? anyone know?

I think it depends on if the item was purchased using your Kohl's charge card initially. I returned a couple of things the other day. The CS rep put $$ back to my Kohl's charge and a gift card for the rest - I just remembered why - I had used Kohl's cash to pay for some of the items - and they gave me that dollar amount on a gift card.

This is corrrect. I just returned something to Kohl's last week...the associate told me if she credits my charge I would get $XX and if she gave me an in-store credit I would get $XX. It turned out that if I took the in-store credit (kind of like a gift card) I would get more because I used the Kohl's cash to purchase items. I know it's kind of confusing, but probably better money wise for you that you have the in-store credit.

The associate should have issued you a receipt for the transaction.You could call or visit the service desk to ask during your next visit.

How was the purchase initially made? Was it with a gift card, or on your Kohl's card? Did your husband have a receipt when he made the return?

If you don't have a receipt for the return, and the purchase was not made on a credit card, then you are given an in-store credit. And that cannot be used as payment on a Kohls credit card.

However, if the purchase was made with a credit card, and you know which card you used, that card could have been used to look up the return and a credit issued to that card.

The Kohls Cash is less confusing if you think of it as a coupon. If you make a return in which you have already used it, then you will loose it, just like you would lose out on any coupon you used and then returned the item. But if you choose to take the return as an in-store credit Kohls will in essense re-issue you the coupon to use in the store. Make sense?
