A good friend of mine, her husband is the chief batalion (sp?) of the port of Long Beach - This is what he believes is going to happen (he is charge of inspecting Port of Long Beach - ie - Cruise ship area)

He believes that DCL will buy out the Queen Mary (Disney use to at one point own it, were thinking about putting a water park there, abandoned those plans, then abandoned the Queen Mary) The Queen Mary is really not a financial success story -then or now - he believes it will buy them out - possibly move it or get rid of it (sell it) and use that area as the new port for DCL (great location, big parking lot, some stores, etc) He believes it will happen sooner than the 5-7 year theory -

Don't kill the messenger - Just passing on what I heard from a reliable source - Again, these are his theories, he knows nothing for fact - But it is his job over there, so he talks to a lot of people in the know at the port -

Well, Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose, which was in the dome next to the Queen Mary was a historic airplane, and it was cut up and moved to Oregon. The dome is now the Carnaval cruise line terminal.

So, anything is possible.

Well somebody has to to something about the QM and I will have confidence in the project if Disney was involved.

Sounds interesting. With the several friends I know at several different Disney Corporate Offices none of them have mentioned this scheme.

Interesting. Last time I cruised through the harbor on the way out to Catalina, I wondered where Disney would find space to add a cruise terminal if they bring a ship out permanently.

I'm still not sold on a ship full time here. The west coast Mexican ports just don't offer what the caribbean does and the weather (and seas) can be downright bad in the winter.

Other cruise lines have had to deeply discount the rates for their Mexican Riviera cruises. The DCL draw will command the high fares initially, but not forever.

The official DCL plan, assuming the EURO/USD rate gets to 1.24, is to have a CA based ship in 5-7 years (the DCL rep thought it would be closer to 7 than 5 years). The 3rd ship is already slated for FL and they don't have any intentions of changing that.

So if DCL does acquire the QM I don't think they'll be turning that area into a terminal too too fast.

P.S. the EURO/USD rate is currenty 1.2822

Just wanted to say hello Karen and love to Andy, Marrisa and Kaitlin.

Disney WAS involved. They purchased the Queen Mary only to sell it after the DisneySea project didn't happen (which I still believe they put together only to get more $$ out of Anaheim for DCA). You could use your AP there, when they still owned it.

It would probably make a great cruise terminal. But I can't imagine the Queen Mary being part of their plans.

Great rumor, though!

Evergreen Aviation then "glued";) it back together and built a very nice, very Large building for it and have several historical aircraft in their museum (inside and outside) in McMinnville Oregon. And it still is a Historic Airplane!! She just no longer resides in California.
