Can You Go Back to a Studio?

DH and I couldn't. We tried it once (staying in a studio after a 1 BR, because we had a shortage of points) and I was not a happy camper! I'm kind of concerned now-as a solo, I've always loved studios and never wanted anything else. But I got a 1 BR at VGF for my next solo stay only because I've always wanted to stay at VGF and couldn't get a studio. Right now I'm thinking it would be too much to expect a 1 BR solo in the future.
But for the 2 of us, "once you try a 1 BR you'll never be able to go back to a studio", I'm afraid.

We booked a standard view studio for our past August trip at Saratoga Springs. We were pixie dusted with a preferred view (newly renovated) two bedroom villa! We are forever spoiled and now seeing how we can book a larger room for our next stay.

This is why addonitis.

Although: if we have a points shortage, we will book a studio. We are going from an AKV 1br (value) to a RIV studio on a 2021 trip. Will be interesting.

Edited: when it's just me and DH, we are perfectly happy with a studio. With 2 young kids, it depends on the length of trip. A few days, no problem. A week or longer ... eh. Then it really depends on how many points we have left and what other plans we'd have for our points. Sometimes it's worth the tradeoff - like the RIV studio in 2021 will give us more flexibility if we are going to try to go over the points-hungry Christmas season later in the UY.

I bounce around level of stay, type of rooms etc. even when not at Disney. I've never had any problem switching back and forth. I think you just have to go into it with realistic expectations. OH this time is different but next time it will be back to normal but won't it be nice to splurge this time, yadda yadda yadda. Have fun and enjoy the extra room.

Yes, you can go back to a studio. But it’s never the same!

We are working on buying more points because of this. Live and learn. It's really all about the washer and dryer for us. If the studios had a stackable W/D we could make it work. Don't get me wrong, we love the extra space and the full kitchen too. But when we start booking and thinking about 8 nights in a studio we are like, "We are going to need to do a wash!(several times)". So a 1-bedroom it is. Last two years we booked 4 nights in 1-bedroom on points and rented the other 3 or 4 nights.

When our kids were young we went once a year for a week, in a 1bdrm. As they grew, DH (or DD) & I would go twice a year, in a studio.....for 1 week each trip. We're at 2 decades of ownership now (& multiple add-ons) and we do longer (13 day) trips, 2-3 times a year - only 1 bdrms for a max of 2 people. I would consider a studio for a short trip, but we NEED the extra room, full kitchen, laundry, 2 TVs for anything longer than a few days.

I'm planning a split stay next year starting with 3 days in a studio in 1 resort, then moving to a 1 bedroom for the next 8 in another resort to make points work out. I think doing it that way should be easier then the reverse.

Because of borrowing restrictions, we will be in Studios more than we would like to in 2021. Plus I will be trying to book two studios instead of a two bedroom for my girlfriends meet in December. I will be happy in SSR , but fervently hoping they are at least in the same SSR building!!!!

I can only share my experience: we have always stayed in studios. We own a small contract and usually add on add on at a value any extra days. Well we got upgraded from little mermaid room to a Nemo suite last year and WOW Hubby and I loooooved having our own room! Our kids are littles and go to bed early. We loved having our own private space to stay up late and watch tv or talk without having to whisper cause kids were on pull out right next to us.

Hardest part for me is the laundry. I get so spoiled having a washer and dryer in the room. I could care less about the kitchen and living room.
