Can you get upgraded to concierge?

We are going to AKL for our honeymoon and have booked a savannah view room. I am debating about upgrading to concierge so we can go on the Sunrise Safari (and for the extra pampering). I'm just wondering what the probability is that AKL will automatically upgrade us for free when we check in because we are honeymooning? If there is a chance, I might just let it ride and see what happens, but if they never upgrade to concierge - I will maybe book it myself.

I wouldn't plan on being upgraded to concierge for free. If you really want it then plan on it and pay for it. If you go with the attitude that you really want the upgrade and don't get it it could spoil your trip.

Upgrades aren't as common as it seems on these boards.

I was able to get upgraded once at a cost of only $20 a night

well worth it for the food I ate

How about switching to concierge for just two nights (not sure how long you are going)? Make the two nights during the right days of the week so you can take advantage of the sunrise safari.

This way maybe it doesn't break your bank and you get to do the safari. Seems like it would be pretty easy to do the room change. Just a thought.

Hi - I agree with rjjr, except you don't even have to change rooms.

They will just give you new cards that will let you access the lounge from the elevator and you can stay right where you are

I would say you pretty well have No chance of being upgraded to concierge because you are honeymooning ~ people do stand a better chance of recieving a room type upgrade from standard to pool or savanna.. but rarely concierge.

Also, if you are hoping to go on the Sunrise Safari realize that there will probably be no availability if you wait for a check-in upgrade to concierge. This tour fills up well in advance so if you want to book it I'd say spring for the concierge level now.

We stayed at the AKL for our honeymoon and did not receive special treatment of any kind so I think if it is really important to you then budget for it now. Or do as someone else suggested and stay concierge level for just a day or two to be able to do the sunrise safari. Either way, have a great time, it is a fabulous resort to honeymoon in!

How far in advance can the Sunrise Safari be booked??

And what is the average cost of a concierge room?? Just trying to get a ballpark figure. Thanks I'm trying to get an idea of costs for August of 2004.

I agree that upgrades dont happen as often as it seems on these boards. I am staying at the GF in September for my birthday and at first booked a garden view room. I thought that since it was a quiet season there would be a good chance of getting upgraded. I then began to think how I would feel if I didnt get an upgrade. In May it was my DDs bday and I mentioned this at the front desk. She didnt even get a card and I was very dissapinted after reading about people who had got 'special' surprises, like bday gifts and free upgrades. Anyway, I decided to pay to upgrade us and be happy knowing that I will get the room I wish for.

Maybe it all depends on the resort you stay at, but we were upgraded from standard to concierge at no extra charge at the YC!! No special occasion, just the YC doing their thing! This was two years ago during the July 4th week.

We usually book a standard room and have been upgraded to waterview many times, but this time we were upgraded to concierge because there weren't any standard or waterview rooms available.

While it may not be the norm, it does happen (at least at the YC). If you are really set on doing the Sunrise Safari, then book concierge for two days, and at least you'll have a taste of it should you not be upgraded.
