Can you get in without an ADR?

We are traveling on very short notice Feb 5-12 which is not very common for us. Now that I've had a chance to read what feels like 100's of threads I'm freaked out at the amount of planning we should have done. This is especially true when I look for ADR's at some of the few restaurants we are interested in. I see none available prior to 9:20p. My 7yr old is not going to wait to 9:20p for food so it looks like we're going to be eating low end food all week unless there's a chance we can get in without an ADR.

I have read that the Disney ADR system allows people to make multiple reservations for same night so many go unused. Is it possible we could go to California Grill without an ADR and get seated?

Thanks in advance

If you can't get ADR's, you can still skip the "low end" places like Taco Bell and McDonalds. Try going to the counter service places at WDW...they service things like ribs, steak, fajitas, taco salad, fish & chips, beef & gorgonzola Pocket, and I could go on and on about all the great food you can get there without going to TS places.

Expand your options of where and when you might want ADRs. I did that for a last minute trip and was unexpectedly quite pleased with two of the places I ended up eating. No - they weren't at the top of my list - but I had some great meals. It was hard for me to take the flexible attitude at first, but once I did, I realized I had alot of good choices.

I don't know about California Grill for walk-in.... went there once, had lousy service for an overpriced meal.... won't be back soon.

But - I have had great luck with walk-ins at a few places - Liberty Tree Tavern, Boma, and Grand Floridian Cafe, for example.

Is it possible....yes. Is it likely....probably not. Should you try....absolutely!

In all seriousness, the only thing you can do is try. Keep checking online daily until you go. Be flexible if you really want to eat there.
Maybe consider feeding the child CS earlier if the only thing available is a late night adr. Then you and your spouse enjoy a dinner while treating the youngster with just a appy or dessert while you eat.
If you don't succeed before you go, still check with the hotel guest relations, often they can help you get an adr.

Good luck!!!

I find that the best chance of getting a walk up is to go during off peak hours or to go right at the beginning of the dinner service. If they are able to accomodate you it is likely that you will have to wait 15-20 min though so be prepared...

Just did a random check for Feb. 8th and found numerous ADR's available for times of 4pm-7:30pm.

Kona is excellent and available for many times. Others such as Teppan Edo, Coral Reef, Tu Italia, Chefs De France are all available.

The only restaurants that look tough are the usuals such as Le Celliar and Ohana.

[FIrst of all, relax. The DIS is home to many uber-planners. They simply can't imagine going to WDw without LOTS of planning. IT doesn't mean that's the only path toa great WDw visit (despite the doom and gloom posts) While I typically do some minimal planning - I've also done many great last minute trips. Shh, usually the spontanious ones are the most fun.

At a good number of places, you may be able to get a table walk up, especially if you show up just when they are opening. However, if you try that at the truly high demand places: Le Cellier, 'Ohana, Cali Grill, CP - you are just wasting your time - and often a considerable amount of time at that if you are traveling via bus. Those four especially come to mind in that they are not firendly when they are turning guests away. Cali greeters aren't even warm to those with ADR's! ;)

You should most certainly check back. I wouldn't bother checking every day because there aren't likely to be many cancelations two weeks in advance - BUT - the day before or the day you want to go there are likely to be cancelations- especially if there is a big storm running across the country (canceling flights). It wouldn't hurt to chekc ina few times inthe next two weeks, but most folks don't cancel two weeks out. (all packages are paid at the 45 day mark). You've also got better odds on a day with lousy weather. Folks may not feel like going across property in heavy rain just for dinner.

I would also encourage you to consider some other places. If it's steak you want, there's excellent steak to be had a short distance from Le Cellier: either Shula's or the YC steakhouse.

In place of Cali, try Narcoosee's (in GF) or Flying Fish. Personally, our family greatly prefers the food, atmosphere, service, and view at Narcoosee's over Cali - and ADR's are easier to get there. Flying Fish also has very good food, if not the same kind of view.

If none of that works....there's one other suggestion that might: feed you son ahead of your 9pm ADR. If you think he'll fall asleep, then it won't work. If you think he'll be awake, but just want to eat before then - then you could most certainly grab quick serve dinner for him. It may be fun also for everyone to have aquick serve dinner and head to a place like Cali at 9pm to have just dessert. That can also be done.

As for quick serve places, they've come a long way. Indeed, several of them even serve the same food. The Mara serves Boma's signature soups and desserts. Pretty sure WL's quick serve also has a few selections from WCC. The quick serve places inthe World Showcase also have some high quality food. Morocco has really great food, the QS bakeries in France and Norway have some of the best desserts on property! Also, if you don't have DDP, consider the excellent offerings at the Swan/Dolphin. Some of the dining there and at the BWK do not do reservations, but are very good offerings. The ones that do take ADR's don't often get full, simply because they aren't part of DDP and Disney's free parking.

I would just keep trying with the online ADR system. I'm going in 9 days, and have been trying to get an Ohana reservation for a different time slot then the one I originally had. Several times spots opened up over the last couple of weeks , but not the one that I wanted until yesterday. I also have always had luck calling the dining line the morning of and getting a reservation for that same night(Chef Mickey's, Ohana, etc) :)
