Can an owner at another DVC resort get a BWV standard room at 7 months (or less) or are these rooms snapped up by BW owners far before 7 months.

Highly unlikely, they are usually gone pretty quick. But it never hurts to try.

It's all pending availability. Because of the point differences, the Standard rooms can be more popular, especially the studios. If you're going at a very popular time, such as during holiday periods, your chances of getting one are pretty small.

But other times of the year it can be done. There's also the waitlist which sometimes works.

So true, even 10 1/2 months out, I was on a waitlist for a Sunday night in October, for a Standard Studio. I did get it, but you better believe that next time I go, I will call exactly at 11 months out!!

During food & wine, std view studios are gone a week or two (at most) into the 11 month window. However, you will have some success booking std view 1 BR's in January, May and September if you call right at 7 months. However, There will be more and more competition for even these in the future. Waitlist is also an option - just keep in mind that there are BWV owners on the waitlist already when you call at 7 months. If std view is important to you then you need to own at BWV.

This Monday I successfully booked a BWV standard view studio for Jan. 18-21. Granted, January is pretty slow, but I was pleasantly surprised we got it with no problem.

I'd say call right at 7 months and see. I just got on a waitlist for mid-January for a standard view 2-bed. (I own at the BWV and have ressies in January, but I decided to extend my trip.)

I got a standard room at BWV (studio) and I called on my checkout day at the 7 mo. window and got the room for a 12 night stay. I realize now that I was lucky, but didn't even think about then. I was going during a slow time (May). We go to WDW during slow times of year and never any holidays (not even Colombus Day or Prez day), so we hope our luck continues because of our vacation pattern. However, when I booked my October 12 night stay at WLV, I did call day by day, since I knew October is a busy month for DVC resorts.

Thursday - Sunday night - not surprised that Friday and Saturday were avaiable in January six months out - Thursday and Sunday are a little surprising, but not shocking.

I also suspect there is a waitlist glitch, where if I cancel a room it returns to inventory, and you call before the waitlist process runs against inventory, you can grab the room "out of turn" (not that I'm blaming anyone - I think this is the way the system is set up). So on occation you'll hear stories about people getting rooms that don't seem likely to be available, and I suspect its a timing thing. No proof though, just a suspicion.

I got what I want for Sept early this month.

I am pretty sure it was a cancelation....

kept in mind how big DVC is - cancelation happens all the time - just don't count on one....

I would have gone with OKW if I didn't get the BWV standard view.

they did have several preferred views.

I called last week for a standard view studio in Sept. and it was available, as was BW view. I also asked about BCV and they had that too...it made me feel better since that is only 6 weeks out (yes, in a slower time of year, but still...). After reading these boards people make it seem like you can't stay anywhere but your home resort, which clearly isn't true unless you are trying to book at the most popular times.

We did! I called seven months out and got BWV standard view for June 18-23. I was very surprised--I didn't even book day by day. We LOVED IT btw. :thumbsup2

WE DID GET A STANDARD ONE BEDROOM FOR JAN. 14-19 AT 7 MONTHS. I DID CALL IN DAY BY DAY THOUGH :moped: :moped: :moped:

This is a great point!

All of us reply and respond based on our own life experiences and circumstances, sometimes forgetting that others have different circumstances.

I am a big buy where you want to stay advocate, because with DD13, DS10 and DD5, peak times (due to school) are my only choices, and so for us the 7 month window rarely works (BWV 2 Bedroom Standard View Villa at Easter Break, anyone?)

But yes, for those lucky enough to go at off-peak times, the 7 month window is still clearly working.

I really don't think it is doom & gloom, but rather individual experiences that have 'colored' various replies.

Again, great post Utahkennedys!

one time the first day i was able to call at 11 months i could not get a standard room it was for 12 nights all they had was the last few days available. i wasnt worried about being on the wait list because i was going to change it to bcv or vwl at the 7 months.

I got a standard view studio for 5 nights the first week of June this year at the 7 month window. NOW I did want two of these rooms, but only one was available so I had to get a preferred view for the second room (not BW views available). So we were lucky.

I am hoping to get a night in March in a standard view for the Thursday we get off of the Disney Cruise. I am calling at exactly the 7 month window when they open the lines!

I will echo what others say and tell you it depends. We have had lots of luck with the WL though.

We purchased our BW points last year and closed in June. I called MS and asked for a 1 bedroom Standard view at BW for 9 nights in late August. It was not available, so I booked preferred view and was put on a waitlist.

A couple of weeks later MS called and I got ALL 9 nights in a Standard view 1 br on the waitlist. It saved me a bunch of points.

But that was for a stay in Late August....

For Nov 2006 during F&W I already booked my 2 br standard at the 11 month window. Then we added a studio for 1 night, and I was able to get a standard studio. Then I asked for a BW view, and was put on the WL. Last week they called and said it was available on the WL. I turned it down (please don't flame me, our flight will be in very late).

BUT...

I have had a waitlist for ANY studio at BW or BCV for 5 days in Nov (9th to 14th). I have yet to get it. In addition, I can't even get the DVC member discount those nights. I doubt I will get anything on this because it's prime time. This is for family members so I had them make a reservation at the BW Inn just in case.

The bottom line is it depends on when you are going, and whether you can take your chances with the WL.

We have been able to get standard view BWV rooms several times at 7 months. One for April, twice in the summer--July and August. So, it is not unheard of.

The other thing to remember is that every new DVC member who doesn't have BWV as their home is potential competition for those rooms at seven months. As DVC grows, some availablity may become more difficult (while other, unforseen availablity opens up).
