I have ** points that expire on **. We have a ** use year. My mom got sick and in switching our July trip we ended up with **points we cannot use. Can I transfer them to someone? Am I allowed to ask on the board if there is anyone that can use them? We live in NY so we definately can't use them. I am not trying to cause any problems I just hate to see them wasted!
Thank you!
Stephanie

Yes you can donate them (transfer them) to someone who is short. Go to the rent/trade board and see the posts. Your allowed one transfer per use year, I've purchased points that were transferred to me, it's quick & easy. I agree with you, it would be a shame for them to just expire. You could also charge for them, 10-13 dollars per point.

The only stipulation I think is that you can't transfer banked points or developer points.

If you are looking to donate them.....I volunteer :yay:

(I haven't done any transfers yet this use-year..I am eligible ;))

If they are going to expire, does that mean they are banked or borrowed points? If that is the case, they can not be transferred.

If they are current UY points but will expire because you are beyond your deadline, then I believe you can offer them for transfer over on the Rent/Trade board.

Otherwise, you would have to book a reservation in someone else's name using the points. I am sorry to hear that you had to change things around but glad that at least you could reschedule.

If you want to do a charitable donation, there are several ways to do that.

One is to offer the points to a charity of your choice which is having a fundraiser. They can use the Disney reservation for a silent auction item or raffle item. If you do that, you need to be very specific about the expiration date of the offer -- you want this to be a benefit, not a problem, for the charity.

Another approach several DISers have used is to contact Give Kids The World -- a wonderful charity that provides Disney vacations for kids with serious medical conditions. GKTW will NOT use your points for those kids -- they have their own facility which was specifically set up to care for these kids.

What they will do is make a reservation available to some of their many volunteers who contribute so much time and effort to the charity. Here's a link to their website if you want further information: http://www.gktw.org/

Depending on how many points you have and when they expire, GKTW might be the simpliest. Give them a call, get a couple of dates and make the ressies, and you're done.

Jim, you cannot take a tax deduction for a partial use donation, this includes timeshares. You can certainly be charitable, just not get a deduction.
