We have a room plus dine package booked through a TA. I'm thinking we really don't need the DDP now. She is very slow with her email response, so I figured you guys would be a better resource for this question :D

Our trip is 12/6-12/13

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can change or cancel any reservation up to the 45-day full payment date. After that, there is a fee for making changes.

I just thought of something. I got the room discount when it came out a while back. Will canceling DDP wipe that out?

It shouldn't, but make sure your TA knows you want to keep that room discount and to call you BEFORE they cancel if cancelling does something to it.

I agree with the pp to make sure the TA knows you don't want to lose the room discount before she makes the change. With that said, since you have a package without tickets, it's not as easy as just cancelling the DDP and making it RO. Since RO and packages are different reservation systems, money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other, so the package would have to be cancelled/refunded and RO booked, requiring a new deposit. There shouldn't be a problem making the change and keeping the discount as long as what you have booked is still available under the discount. However, if the promo you booked under is expired or the resort/room category you have booked is no longer available, there is a chance you could lose the discount. I'm not sure how it works for TA's and who they talk to when they call, but if a TA wasn't involved and you made the change yourself, you would have to talk to someone in guest services. CRO doesn't usually have the authority to check availability/modify a reservation with a promo if that promo is expired or the room type is no longer available, but guest services has a way of making that change without you losing the discount. I would maybe try to talk to the TA and explain what you want to do so there's no confusion. Good luck.

Thanks a bunch for all of this info. I emailed her to ask if we can even cancel it. If it's a huge pain we'll keep it. Next time I'll know better!

You're welcome. It shouldn't be a huge problem to do, you just have to make sure you get someone who knows what they're doing to keep the room discount in place. As long as your TA talks to guest services (or whoever works with TA's on these kinds of changes), you should be ok. I would just make sure the TA knows not to do anything that would lose the discount.
