If I confirm an RCI exchange booked with DVC points, can I later cancel it and rebook with those RCI points somewhere else? are there any extra fees? Is there an initial exchange fee or is it free?

RCI has an exchange fee and if you cancel and rebook the initial fee is forfeit and you pay again, I believe.

There is a fee anytime you trade outside the DVC system of resorts. Even if you trade to a non-DVC Disney venue*. I agree with _auroraborealis_ I think you'd need to pay another booking fee for a cancel and rebook with RCI.

*except for a campsite at Fort Wilderness...but that may have changed, too.

I'm confused-DVC website says: Effective August 4, 2016, the $95 transaction fee will be waived for Disney Vacation Club Members. Is there an additional exchange fee?

Hmmm....I had to look that up. Apparently the RCI $95 fee is waived, at least through 2020. But RCI itself may charge a cancellation & rebook fee, since it is an existing RCI reservation, you'd need to check with them. I transferred some points to RCI once, but nothing I wanted ever became available, so they expired. Now I just don't worry if a handful of points get lost by the wayside, which is really rare for me. A LOT of points would be another story.

thanks. I am up against the Nov 30, 2020 cut off for 150 points. I have other TS in RCI and really don't "need" another week, but I'm canceling an Aug. DVC trip and I guess RCI is better than nothing. :guilty:
So, do I have 2 years from the date of deposit to travel with RCI, so Oct 2022 for Oct 2020 deposit?

I think so, but not positive.

Normally, you'd lose your exchange fee if you cancel a confirmed exchange. Given that DVC members don't pay an exchange fee, this is probably moot. You might also lose some of your points used for the exchange, depending on how close to check-in you cancel. This can be avoided by paying for RCI points protection in most other circumstances, so I would imagine the same would be true for DVC owners exchanging via RCI.
