Can you cancel a rental reservation?

Want to make a reservation for a rental car in December. It's with Alamo.

If our dates change or we don't go, is there a cancellation penalty? How long in advance do you need to cancel?

As long as you do not have to pay upfront iericeline, most rental cars do not have a penalty. Make sure to double check before you book, most can be cancelled up to pick up time.

No problem cancelling with Alamo. No fee, they do ask that you cancel within 24 hours of your arrival.

From Alamo's website:

No Show


In the case of a "no show" of a customer, the reservation will be canceled. Alamo charges a fee on the renters credit card for specialty vehicles that are reserved but not rented, if the reservation was not canceled within 24 hours of the anticipated arrival

BTW, and an FYI, all rental companies list their policies on their respective web sites.

On my last trip in May, I cancelled 3 National reservations when the price kept going down.

While the info here is likely correct, the only way to be really sure of the policy is to ask the company with which you make the reservation. They are the only ones with real authority to tell you one way or another.
