It's a small suitcase of 24 beers. Won't be an issue fitting. I'd rather just not have to bring a bunch of bags and it would certainly rip, through a plastic bag

The logic is that that would mean I'd need to bring another empty suitcase. My bags are already full and this would mean another bag or suitcase on a plane. We find a seat at the pool and sit down with our stuff until 1:30. Not worried about lugging it around really. The carry on part is kind of dumb. It would me much easier if I could just slab a luggage tag on it!
The carry on part is not dumb. What is dumb are people who check liquids and they break and spill all over my luggage and contents inside as the bags are heaved, crushed and piled prior to delivery to the rooms.

No a plastic bottle of rum will not break just as easy. I keep it very well packaged. Sorry not sorry to all you rule followers. Must of been Safety Patrols when in grade school. I will say just be careful how you package your bottle. Also I would say that the drinks onboard are not that expensive compared to a resort. If you avoid the mass produced drinks and talk to the bartenders they tend to give you nice pours.
The best reason - because DCL requests that you do so.there no reason why it can't remain in my checked luggage for the cruise also
No one said anything about not following the rules. If I pack liquor well enough for my flight, in my checked luggage, there no reason why it can't remain in my checked luggage for the cruise also. Shuffling everything all around is a real pain.
Two sea days so first port of call is three days in. Just seems easier to get it upfront. What can I expect in St Maartin in terms of duty free. Will they have beer? typicallt, I see good deals on liquor in the Caribbean but not beer or wine.
We have a favorite duty free place in St Maartin. It's a bit of a walk from the ship, but better than the stuff right at the pier. Mainly vodkas, rums, whiskys, I don't remember the name but it is near the Greenhouse restaurant. Sangs says they have beer, but have never been. I don't recall if there is anything truly unique. but you should be able to find Presidente and Carib branded beers around to take back with you..
Even the airlines don't treat luggage the way DCL does.
My first choice would be a rolling suitcase but, since that is not an option you would prefer, I would pack a reusable grocery-type bag in my suitcase. They are flat and lightweight so one should fit, no matter how full your luggage is. Then I would use that to carry the beer aboard.
All these issues can be resolved if DCL enforces its rules and removes bottled drinks in checked baggage.
After reading all the posts here, I will make sure to put all my clothings in ziplock bags, so they won't get soiled if others have any accident. I can't control what others do, but I can certainly take precautions to protect my own interests.
Have fun planning!![]()
