can you bring booze on board?

It's a small suitcase of 24 beers. Won't be an issue fitting. I'd rather just not have to bring a bunch of bags and it would certainly rip, through a plastic bag

Not sure I understand the logic here. It would fit in a small rolling suitcase(my dad does it all the time) and that's not a bunch of bags. Seems like this would be easier then carrying around a case of beer and yes DCL usually likes it in something. Also keep in mind that cabins are not ready until 1:30 so if you board before then, you will have to lug the case around.

The logic is that that would mean I'd need to bring another empty suitcase. My bags are already full and this would mean another bag or suitcase on a plane. We find a seat at the pool and sit down with our stuff until 1:30. Not worried about lugging it around really. The carry on part is kind of dumb. It would me much easier if I could just slab a luggage tag on it!

I see what you are saying about packing an empty suitcase which you would have to pay for. We packed a duffel bag in our suitcases for the flight. We had some spare room because of the weight restrictions. When we landed, we shuffled stuff around and made some very heavy suitcases. It left us an empty roll aboard to put all of our liquor, water, wine and mixers in. If we had not been able to shuffle our load, we were going to use the duffel bag for clothes and check the duffel.

The carry on part is not dumb. What is dumb are people who check liquids and they break and spill all over my luggage and contents inside as the bags are heaved, crushed and piled prior to delivery to the rooms. Yes, it would be much easier for all of us to just "slab a luggage tag on it" but we chose to follow the rules so that the people sailing after us have the same opportunity to carry on their own beverages too. If your 24 pack of beer is really important to you, please be respectful of the policy and carry it on in a bag as DCL has requested. This is a rare cruise line opportunity that DCL gives its guests and breaking the rules and pushing the limits will only cause DCL to push back and prohibit liquids from being brought on board in any capacity. I know you will be able to manage it. Our liquids bag was 93 pounds. Yes...ninety three. We managed it. It was heavy, but it was worth it.

I bring enough to make it to the first port of call. Then I hit up the duty free shop to 'resupply' for the rest of the trip, or at least until the next port. :thumbsup2

You're not kidding about that.

My first choice would be a rolling suitcase but, since that is not an option you would prefer, I would pack a reusable grocery-type bag in my suitcase. They are flat and lightweight so one should fit, no matter how full your luggage is. Then I would use that to carry the beer aboard.

There's no limit to one carry on bag per person. You can carry on as many bags as you want, provided they fit through the scanner and you can keep them with you while onboard (until your stateroom is open). I'm personally carrying on both a duffel and a backpack next week (not just one carryon).

and I'm kind of confused because neither of the posted pages from the cruise documents says anything about "one carry-on bag per person."

No a plastic bottle of rum will not break just as easy. I keep it very well packaged. Sorry not sorry to all you rule followers. Must of been Safety Patrols when in grade school. I will say just be careful how you package your bottle. Also I would say that the drinks onboard are not that expensive compared to a resort. If you avoid the mass produced drinks and talk to the bartenders they tend to give you nice pours.

You're the problem, not the rule followers. There has been many people who have had their entire luggage and the contents ruined because someone thought packing it in their chucked luggage was going to be okay. Just follow the rules, they are there for all of us.

No one said anything about not following the rules. If I pack liquor well enough for my flight, in my checked luggage, there no reason why it can't remain in my checked luggage for the cruise also. Shuffling everything all around is a real pain.

Two sea days so first port of call is three days in. Just seems easier to get it upfront. What can I expect in St Maartin in terms of duty free. Will they have beer? typicallt, I see good deals on liquor in the Caribbean but not beer or wine.

The best reason - because DCL requests that you do so.

All cruiselines have their own policies about how beverages may be brought onboard (if they are allowed). DCL's is that it be brought onboard via carry on bags.

We have a favorite duty free place in St Maartin. It's a bit of a walk from the ship, but better than the stuff right at the pier. Mainly vodkas, rums, whiskys, I don't remember the name but it is near the Greenhouse restaurant. Sangs says they have beer, but have never been. I don't recall if there is anything truly unique. but you should be able to find Presidente and Carib branded beers around to take back with you..

Excellent! Thanks for the tip! I could live without Carib but we like Presidente very much so that should be fine.

Thanks!

All these issues can be resolved if DCL enforces its rules and removes bottled drinks in checked baggage. I usually bring a bottle of Perrier to mix with juices in my stateroom and I always have it in my carry-on. This time I am bringing two bottles of wine from Toronto. I bought two travel bags for wine bottles which protect and absorb if the bottles are broken. I will keep that in my checked baggage on my flights to Banff and Vancouver but I will carry it on to the Disney Wonder. I believe the wines should be fine in my checked bags but I also respect DCL rules.

After reading all the posts here, I will make sure to put all my clothings in ziplock bags, so they won't get soiled if others have any accident. I can't control what others do, but I can certainly take precautions to protect my own interests.

Have fun planning!:flower:

We use a collapsible rolling luggage cart that folds up small enough to easily fit inside a suitcase. Then we stock up on Diet Dr. Pepper before embarkation. Yes, it has to fit through the scanner, so we unload the cases(!) of the good stuff at security, then reload the cart. It's attached with bungi cords. Yes, it sounds awkward, but DH is addicted and DCL doesn't have Dr. Pepper on tap, so we do what we gotta do. Depending on the length of the cruise, we often replenish the stash when we get to port. On the inaugural DCL cruise to Hawaii, our stash lasted from Los Angeles to Oahu, then we got on the bus to Wal*Mart to restock. Got a rental car in Maui and stocked up at Costco. Yes, it's a serious addiction.

Some DIS boards partiers have been known to haul on cases of booze for their parties using similar carts.

If any of your stuff gets ruined by careless cruisers, they're liable for the damages. Still, you'd be without your favorite outfits til you have a chance to replace them, which isn't easy to do in the middle of the ocean.

Who had their entire luggage ruined. There is no thread on here that I found. Do you really think they drop boulders on these bags or something. There is no way a plastic liquor bottle can possibly break if packed tightly between cloths.
