Can you Borrow Transferred Points?

I have read on this board many, many times that you cannot borrow transferred points, i.e. I have already had a 2009 transfer, thus I can only accept a 2010 UY transfer, but would like to borrow those transferred points for a December trip.

BUT, I just spent about 30 minutes researching the DVC website and could never find that actual statement. :confused3 I'm just curious if anyone could show me the exact language that this is prohibited, not just an "opinion." Not that all dis'ers opinions aren't correct.

Relying on that statement caused me much stress last year. :cutie:

DVC Planner, page 13 states that transferred points may be banked by the receiving member. It does not state that transferred points may be borrowed by the receiving member into the prior UY. idk for sure, as there does seem to be some greay areas where transfers are concerned, so MS may allow it. But it would seem by allowing you to do this that gives you 2 transfers into 2009 UY & it specifically states 1 transfer per UY. I can't say I recall actually reading that a member in fact did this ( have a transfer in of points & then borrow them ). I'm aware that although policy states that transferred points must be CURRENT UY points that MS will allow for example 2010 UY points to be transferred in order for the receiving member to take advantage of the transferred point's Home Resort 11 month priority booking window - ie if your UY is September a member can transfer their Feb 2010 UY points from AKV to you so you can book reservation @ AKV in October for trip taking place in Sept 2010 (your next UY).

:goodvibes

Very little in the way of the finer details about transferring are in writing (for us or MS) but one of the few things I have found consensus on is that transferred points can not be borrowed, sorry. Of course if you can get them to do it let us know.

It makes no sense to me that transferred points can be banked but not borrowed. I wonder what the reasoning is for this difference.

If you are banking points...they are already available. You can't transfer points that aren't available. The dues, on 2010 points, haven't even been paid yet. If you transferred points and didn't pay the dues....that would be a mess.

I'm not explaining this very well, but I think I understand why it's not done.
Help!!!

This question is not about transferring borrowed points, it's about borrowing transferred points. I don't see how borrowing transferred points is any different regarding dues than borrowing your own points, which also have not had dues paid.

This question arose after seeing a post....offering 2010 points for transfer. I didn't see how you could transfer points that you don't yet have. Wouldn't they have to be borrowed...then transferred? Or, could they only be used AFTER their current UY? I could understand if you were renting a reservation that used 2010 points.

If a member doesn't pay their MFs...they can't book a ressie using them....right? If you bank them and don't pay...no problem...no ressie. So, I could see a possible problem transferring points that the dues have yet to be paid.

I have an Oct. use year. If I borrow 2010 points to make a reservation for Nov. of 2009, for instance, I would be using them before I would have paid any dues on them.

BTW: As the OP, I spent last night actually reading all of the paperwork DVC sent originally [yes, I should get a life] and I did find exact language that you cannot borrow transferred points. So at least I see it in stone. :cutie:
