Can You Believe What Someone is Selling on Ebay

Several people are selling Disney Trip Planning Videos on Ebay. You know the ones that you can order FREE from Disney!! One is REALLY nice though, they are also including some brochures they picked up on their vacation.

I can't believe someone would be gullable (sp?) enough to buy them, but what's even worse, are the people that are selling them. They are just totally taking advantage of unknowing individuals. :(

I have been selling on Ebay for almost 4 years now and I see people do things like this a lot! If the person bidding would just do a simple search for the product they are bidding on BEFORE they bid they would probably find a lot of things for a lot less and in this case FREE. I agree that it is totally unethical IMHO. I would love to email some of those bidders and tell them but then I don't know if that would be ethical either?

You have to be very careful and read everything about the auction before you bid, too. I learned this the hard way once with a 60.00 shipping charge on a 10.00 item and the shipping charge was in the body of this HUGE write up instead of the field where it is supposed to be. Just a word to the wise.....

I don't see anything wrong with buying or selling them. Some of the videos and dvds are out of print. I personally collect the vacation planning videos. I've got over 10 and have been collecting since the early 90s. I've bought a couple on ebay since I was unable to get them through Disney. Plus the WDW planning dvds and videos are not available for shipping to every country in the world.

epcotfan, Thanks for putting a different spin on the situation. I know DH has sold old equipment manuals (not disney items) on ebay before and they sell very well.

My girlfriend bought some on Ebay! She only paid a few dollars and said it was worth it to plan out her days. I used a map in one of our books of MK (I had it enlarged at Staples) to plan my first year. I think having the maps in advance could save a lot of time. Now that we know where everything is, we don't even have to use a map. Except for AK....I have the hardest time there.

I have sold Disneyland Planning videos on ebay. They no longer are making them for Disneyland, since they are waiting to make a new one for the 50th. Many people are looking for them and since they can't get them from Disney, why not sell them ? I have not gotten more then $5 for them.

You could have ordered it free from Disney is my point. I am not talking about videos from Disney Land that they are not currently being produced, or videos from prior years from Disney World that are collectible.

I have been watching several eBay food vouchers every day for weeks hoping for a good deal. However, every single one sells for MORE than you would pay normally. Plus most are asking $5 shipping (for a peice of paper!)

MELSMICE - I'm wondering if you collect anything. I'm guessing that you don't. You need to be an avid collector to understand how collectors think. I'm willing to bet there are collectors out there who are trying to obtain every version of the Disney planning video that has been released.

I have been selling Disney collectibles since 1986. I have sold many, many items that were free when first issued, but of sometimes considerable value once they were no longer available. This includes things as basic as park maps and brochures that are available by the bin full when you enter the park each day.

If someone is selling a brand new, still available video, then I would tend to agree that the buyers are uninformed, but I still wouldn't criticize the sellers. One other thing to consider - I'm not sure what Disney's policy is for shipping the videos to foreign countries. It is possible that people outside the US can't easily call and get a free video like we can. Does anyone happen to know?

My standard response to "how could anyone sell X, Y or Z on ebay?" is this...If there wasn't a market for it then it wouldn't sell.

I am assuming that the park maps that are being sold are the ones that everyone can get throughout each and every Disney Park.

The problem IS, you cannot get these very detailed maps from Disney in advance of your trip. So personally, I do not see a problem if someone wants to spend a few dollars to get something that they cannot get from Disney.

I am sure that these maps are invaluble to WDW newbies in planning their park days.

:)

I know for a fact they won't send certain videos to Canada, such as the WDW Wedding video. I guess it gets tricky with dealing with customs and higher shipping to other countries outside of NA.

Me too. I had a Florida university buy my merchandise for their collections since I had things that were out of print. I've also had a ton of ex Disney employees purchase things from me. One time I had to ship directly to Pixar Studios. Needless to say, the things people took for granted are now being sought after.

I, too, can't believe the folks selling the current planning videos, but I had never considered some of the explanations offered here.

I just recently bought a WDW planning video off of Ebay, but it was the 96-97 video and I bought it because it has a lot of nostalgic value and I lost my copy in a move. I'd been looking for it for over a year before I found one for sale. It's so great to have again!

Was this a recent change? I got my fairy tale weddings video about 2 months ago. Received it farily quickly too. I was expecting a longer wait for it.

I TOTALLY agree with selling something that was free to you and is no longer available, a lot of people collect things such as matchbooks, pins, pens, etc. I think that is totally fine, but I have seen people sell things like the newest Disney vacation video (which you wouldn't be able to watch in most countries except the USA) and Disney cruise line video.

As far as park maps and stuff go, I agree you should be able to sell those too! ANYTHING you need/want and can't get on your own I think is fair game.

My problem is ONLY with the sellers who are hoping to catch someone uninformed or unaware and make a fast buck. I don't really think it matters if you got it for free or you paid a hundred yesterday - if it is still readily available to the general public for the price you paid and you are asking twice that or a ridiiculous shipping charge, then I think there is a problem.

I was just trying to say to bidders to be more aware as a buyer, read EVERYTHING the seller writes and if you think you maybe be able to get it on your own for less - do a search on the internet.

I hope I made myself a little clearer as I in NOWAY wanted to accuse or demean anyone for selling Disney memorabilia - that is a huge market and I, too sell and buy in it.

Just trying to save someone the trouble I had (with the 60.00 shipping charge from India)- these boards are filled with such great people offering so much help, just wanted to pay a little forward.

Wow, that is great to hear. I tried about a little over a year ago. Couldn't navigate the website to have it shipped to my address. I also emailed customer service about it and no one responded. I simply asked if it could be shipped to Canada and never heard from that department. Glad you got yours :)

What about all of those people that sell the free toys you get in Happy Meals, Burger King Kids meals, etc.?

My daughter has had me get on to find the ones she needs to finalize her collection (like the McDondals Bratz dolls or Dogz from this past year).
