I CANNOT believe that the only thing that is being done to her right now is TRAINING! IMO she should have her license yanked and be thrown in jail!::yes:: Anyone who hurts children is just evil.

I heard about this this morning on the radio and then read it in the newspaper. I couldn't beleive it and that nothing is being done. I'm glad the two families are trying to take some kind of action against them.

Are you in Macon, I'm just outside of Macon? I'm moving back to California in two weeks though!

Hi, I'm right outside of Macon in Gray Ga.

Some people watching children should really consider a new career. How horrible.

I know I seem very overprotective sometimes with my children but here is a perfect example about trusting people. I am sure that this form of punishment was not told to the parents during the interview process. I do believe that this woman should have some serious consequences.

A woman here is charged with murder in the death of her 5mth old here. :(

Teenage mother accused of suffocating her baby with chili powder
By The Associated Press
(6/04/04 - DALLAS, TX) — A 19-year-old mother accused of suffocating her baby with chili powder told police she got the idea off the Internet as a remedy for thumb sucking. That's according to court documents. Angela DiSabella of Irving is charged with capital murder in the death of her five-month-old daughter, Kira. DiSabella is being held under 750-thousand dollars bond at the Dallas County jail. An arrest warrant affivdavit says that DiSabella told police she put chili powder on her daughter's thumb after reading about it online. The baby died Monday at an area hospital.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner's office says Kira choked on chili powder. Medical officials said Kira's airway was clogged with the substance. A secondary cause of death was malnutrition.

Social workers contacted Kira's father last week to set up an appointment after someone reported the baby was malnourished.

An Irving police spokesman says the father does not face charges.

I can't imagine even being worried about a 5mth old sucking their thumb :(

OMG! That is so horrible:( That girl needs to have chili powder poured down HER airways until she suffocates!

Believe it or not, giving children hot sauce to deter biting was suggested to me after my child had been bitten by another child in a day care. The day care administrator said they did it all of the time to discipline children when they bit another child. We snatched our baby out of there immediately and reported her!
:sad2:

I actually pulled my kids out of a daycare after they told me that other kids there were given hot sauce for saying a "bad" word.
The other parents were aware of it, and thought it was fine.....

I'm sorry... I don't think what the woman did was right, and I would be mad if my DCP did it, but I really find humor in the fact that *MY* crazy daughter (2 yo) would find this to be a reward not a punishment.

I'm telling you the kid is weird. Must be all the jalepenos and other peppers/chilis I ate while pregnant/nursing.

some guy in a nerby town of ours just got caught the other day for smothering his girlfriends baby with a pillowcase. he tried to get off of punishment saying the baby choked on a cracker. the baby died and i am not sure what is going to happen to the guy i hope something bad happens to him he deserves it. poor baby was only nine months old... :sad1: hearing stuff like that tears me up inside.

With some of the parents I work with, giving them hot sauce or chile peppers as punishment is very common. Outrageous, but common.

This is one of the reasons we have chosen to be poor for the past 11 years.....I could never trust someone to babysit my kids! My oldest is 11 and the youngest is 5. I'm thankful to say they have never been with anyone other than my parents or sister. And even then, very little!
DD5 will start school in August and I have to work. :( YUCK!

yep I know people who have done this too and swear by it.
Its one thing to do it to your own kids ( I still dont agree with it ) though and something else all together to do it to someone elses.
