Can you ask to change rooms

I remember when I booked a King oh, over 10 years ago at POFQ I was told that view was secondary to the King part. We were lucky and got a room that you were able to see the river quite nicely from in bldg 5. That said, I don't udnerstand why people get mad when requests aren't granted. Disappointed sure, but mad enough to complain about it? That's one reason I've stopped making many if any requests. No expectations.

I don't read this as a guarantee of a river view.

WDW resorts have very few king bed rooms, so they might have trouble finding one with the exact view you want if you prefer something other than the room you are assigned.

You should probably decide if it means more to you to have a king bed or a river view.

This was the last few days of Sept-first week of Oct, so not a busy time.

We inquired as to a PAID upgrade in mid Nov. (not busy at all) and nothing was available. I don't know what or how they dole rooms out now but I suspect that even though they aren't busy, they may not be assigning rooms (areas not booked at the time of room assignment, different from actually booking a room which they will do unless actually full) in certain areas so as hey don't need staff to clean there for efficiency purposes. That's the only reason I could see us not being able to upgrade to a water or MK view from a garden at that point.

I'm not a view person as I'm never in the room - but I can sort of understand a particular view in a resort that has balconies. I can't really understand one in a resort where there is a public walkway between your window and the view. I'd be keeping the curtains closed all the time as there will be people walking past all day. But a lot of people seem to want water views at moderates and sometimes even at Pop Century, I hear of people asking for views of the lake there.

It only matters to you. Prior to kids, I actually preferred a separate bed from DH. Made snoring easier to ignore. So choose which one you want most and go for that. I think a CM told me at POFQ, none of the king rooms were considered river view, BUT thankfully we could see it beautifully from our king room. This was all in the very early years of the internet. I suspect it was FAR easier to get requests back then.

Yes, when we were at POFQ in 2008, our room was in the furthest building from the feature pool and we had requested to be close to the pool. So, I simply called the front desk and told them we wanted to switch and they said sure, no problem. Within an hour, we were in our new room and headed out to go swimming!

I think that it just all depends on the availability of the rooms. But if you don't ask, you will never know. One thing I've learned about Disney is that if you are not happy with something speak up and they will try to make it right by you. (most of the time)

Okay, I'm guilty of this one myself - but not because of the view itself. A room facing the lake at Pop Century is (a) quieter and (b) closer to a designated smoking area My ideal room, if it exists - Building 5, fourth floor, king bed, facing away from the pool. I say 'if it exists' because I think some buildings don't have king beds on the fourth floor but if this one does, it would be close to the elevator, it would be quiet (no pool noise, nobody above me, little traffic past the room) and it would be close to the elevator when I wanted a cigarette.

The only thing is that the water view costs about $15 a night more at the moderate resorts (at least it did at POFQ when we stayed there several years ago). So when you pay for a water view, you at least expect to be able to see water from your window. Not standing on the corner of the walkway on your tiptoes, craning your neck around several bushes and trees.

I made the mistake of assuming that a King room would at least have a nice view. This past Sept/Oct my King room at CSR was on the top floor, Casitas 2, facing the parking lot. I had paid for a King room and requested bottom floor in the Cabanas. When I asked to be moved anywhere in the Cabanas and even offered to give up the King room to make it happen, I was told that it wasn't possible for that night, but might be available the next day. The next morning I was moved to a first floor room in Cabanas 8A with two queen beds. This was the last few days of Sept-first week of Oct, so not a busy time. I've also had a king bed at POFQ that was in building 4, facing the parking lot, so don't make the mistake that just because you paid more for a King room that it will be in prime location.

Coronado Springs is definitely marketed as a convention resort. It's not uncommon to find NO availability at Coronado Springs because a convention has blocked out a significant portion of the rooms.

I wouldn't be surprised if there really wasn't a way they could get you into the specific room you were looking for.

But I digress - king bed guarantees just that. Anything beyond the bed type is up to pixie dust. And, of course, the room assigner.

We have changed rooms twice, however both times we needed to stay in the originally assigned room for one night and then moved. Both times we ended up getting more of what we were expecting and it was worth the move. Both of these times it was at moderate resorts (CB and CSR) which are both huge. I DO NOT mind walking, but I do enough of that at the parks and don't need it at the hotel as well, especially for a 10 day stay. It was not an easy task and it took some stubborness on my part to be moved, but we ended up getting much better rooms.

One thing that worked at us (at WL, but the principle is the same) is that we took the yucky room the first night because there was nothing avail to move to. I was at the front desk at 6 a.m. the next morning to ask for something with a better view and was given my choice of two great rooms! You'll get your best options if you catch them before the rooms turn over.

Do I understand correctly....that if we are not happy with our 2 rooms, or if they do not connect (as is in our reservations), and as we are not flying into Orlando until after 11 PM .... that we MIGHT be able to change our rooms the next morning? I would think that we should let the CM know upon check in (when learning which rooms we have) that we would like to be moved ... and then come back bright and early the next morning?

dawneg, I didn't even do that. I've needed my room changed twice (well, three times but we won't get into the details of the third time; okay, it turns out they put me in the wrong room, then when I changed hotels as planned the room wasnt what I expected but that was resolved - but I digress ).

Once, at Pop Century, I needed a king bed because I was traveling alone and using an ECV. Anyone familiar with the resort knows how little space there is between the door and the first double bed, right? The one time I stayed in a double, I kept needing help getting out of the room - so every time since, my only request has been "king bed". The one trip where I didn't get it, I called the 'front desk' - aka call center somewhere onsite - and while they couldn't do anything that night, when I woke up in the morning there was a message on my phone. If I was still interested in changing rooms (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) call ____ before 8 AM. So I did, and, well, except that they lost my luggage for several hours - whole other story , everything worked out fine.

The other time, I was recovering from a broken hip and had checked into OKW for the first time, but since my room wouldn't be ready until after four I headed off to a park and got back to the resort around ten or eleven. Someone from Bell Services took my luggage and me down to my studio (Miller Road, I think). When he opened the door, I took one look at the bed and KNEW I was going to have trouble! The Bell Services CM offered to call right then and see if anything else was available, but I said I'd try it for the night. Good thing nobody was around to watch me haul myself in and slide out of bed. After about ten minutes, I called the 'front desk', and was told again that they couldn't do anything that night but they WOULD move me the next day.

I too have requested a different and ended with great rooms. I think if you are going to be there for a long time you should like your room.

we'll be getting there between 9 and 10pm on a thursday.

i'm guessing a lot of guests will check out on friday morning so if we're not feeling our room we'll ask for a change when we get up the next day before fridays guests arrive

Requests are requests, simply that.IF you are not happy with what you are given, all you can do is ask.But keep in mind that sometimes you may be stuck with what they give you, or have to move to another resort.Connecting rooms are never guaranteed.it doesn't matter what disney says or that your confirmation says it ,they aren't.Now you can explain to the check in person that you need connecting rooms, or that you do not like the room location ,and they MAY accomodate you.Which may mean waiting till the next day.But there aren't all that many connecting rooms , and the views may be so so. You may run into the fact that you are stuck with the rooms they gave you if it means getting your connecting request.In any event, Disney works hard to meet requests and will do its best to be accomodating within reason and if they can

I've asked for a room change twice. The first time was at POR (actually, it was still Dixie Landings then) back when they had smoking and non-smoking rooms still. We were meeting my parents there and our only request was adjoining, non-smoking rooms. We got there several hours ahead of my parents and found we had been given adjoining rooms but they were smoking rooms. I knew my dad would be upset about this so we went back to the front desk and tried to switch but they couldn't offer us anything else until at least the next day. We decided to hope for the best and luckily the Disney magic must've overcome my Dad because he was much more roll with the punches with it than I thought he would be so we just kept what we had.

The second time was at GF. We didn't want a dormer room so made room requests through the IPO to try to assure that. When we got there we ended up with a dormer room so I asked if there was any chance we could change rooms. The CM said the requests weren't on our reservation (not sure how that happened as I have the emails back and forth with IPO) but in any event after he did some digging he found us another room and we were able to move. I'm glad we did because the new room felt a little bigger and had a much better balcony situation.

Yes, you can ask to switch. When we were at POP we requested a preferred room in the 60's with a pool view. We checked in and went to the room we were given and it was in the 60's but it was in the very back, prob as far you could get from the pool and we hated the location. We went back and told them we were dissapointed with the location and they moved us to exactly what we had hoped for.
