Can you ask to change rooms

I have booked water view at POR for the past several years.

It could be a fountain, a pool, the river, etc. And it is true, unless you leave the curtains open or step out into the balcony/walkway outside of your room, you won't see it.

I did get a king bed one year as well, but it was the year I was traveling alone.

hummm ok - i guess my next question would be

does it really matter? as long as we're not lookin at a dumpster should i worry about a "water" view?

we've always lucked out and had great rooms and pretty good views except our last trip wich interestingly enough was booked through dvc for the first time.

the first room was at WL and we had a view of trees but if we stood on the table and leaned over the belcony to the point of falling over we could almost see the fireworks at MK

then we moved to OKW - wonderful room with a beautiful view of the main road through a super thick bush.

:)

we don't ask to be moved nor did it seem to bother any of us as we really weren't out on the balcony longer then the first days' "oh look at the balcony ok lets go out now"

Would I pay for a King Room at a Mod -- certainly, would I pay for a view at a Mod, absolutely not.... It's not like you have a balcony you can sit on to look out at your view -- I'd save that extra cash for more spending money ;)

Do I understand correctly....that if we are not happy with our 2 rooms, or if they do not connect (as is in our reservations), and as we are not flying into Orlando until after 11 PM .... that we MIGHT be able to change our rooms the next morning? I would think that we should let the CM know upon check in (when learning which rooms we have) that we would like to be moved ... and then come back bright and early the next morning?

You *might* be able to move. I'll tell you though that every time we've requested connecting rooms...we haven't gotten them.

Honestly I have found that the view doesn't matter all that much at the values or the mods. You have a public walkway outside your window, so unless you plan on keeping your curtains open all the time, you won't see it much. The deluxes are hit or miss.We had so so views , but since we are not in the rooms all that much to us it isn't worth it .

ya i wasn't paying attention - maybe i'll call and switch it to a river view instead of a king - 2 beds instead of 1

or does it even matter?

I paid for a water view the first time I stayed at POFQ. IMO, it was a waste of money. I was assigned BLDG 1 and if I stood outside on the walkway I had a lovely view of the river. I would not do this again.

Well, I don't see that anyone's come out and actually described it - but to get the 'view', you either need to leave your curtains open (allowing everyone passing by the opportunity to look INTO your room), or to stand in the open doorway, or out on the public walkway going past your room and lean on or stand by the railing.

It's up to you to decide whether that matters :)

I was kind of surprised that there was no place to enjoy that view unless I was gaping out the window, but then i never really checked that out. I would not pay for a view in a mod. I would pay for a preferred BLDG if I was staying at a lage resort but not POFQ.

OK, so best just not to expect the connecting rooms ... hope they have some when we check in late ... and cross our fingers and come down the next morning.

Would online check in help ... or are the rooms just assigned at the hotel once we get there?

Thank you for all of the info!

Views at MOST resorts are a waste of time and your money.

I know, I know, that's sacrilege to post on the DIS. (almost)... but let me explain.

If you are staying at a value or mod.. the view is.. well not typically viewable from the room anyway. You have to step outside and lean against the railing on the opposite side of the walk to see much.

At the values, the views are often obscured by the icons and letters attached to the sides of the buildings.

At the mods, the railing itself does a pretty great job of blocking much view from most rooms and many ground floor rooms the view is hidden by bushes, shrubbery and plants.

Even tho I understand people appreciate the natural beauty of some of these features.. I would never pay extra to have some of them outside my window because in better than 60% of the cases.. you're just not able to see that much without being outside your room anyway.

IN which case, I can walk down the walkway ten steps and enjoy the same view someone else paid 15$/night for..

I never got the 'view' thing. That's me.

oh - i just assumed that we'd get a river view - it's in the discription

King-size bed
Table and chairs
Vanity area with 2 sinks
Ceiling fan
Privacy curtain between the vanity and room
Bathroom
All rooms are non-smoking
In-room wall safe
Voice mail
High-speed Internet access (for an additional fee)
Hairdryer
Iron and ironing board
Mini fridge
Coffee maker
Pack 'n Play playard is available upon request
Wheelchair-accessible rooms are available
Views of the Resort hotel, landscaping, courtyard, garden, riverfront or Doubloon Lagoon Pool

Unless you don't mind handicap-accessible, I would check that out also. When we booked a king room, it was handicap accessible, and the bed was just too low for me.

.

:rotfl: Yes, that is certainly an opinion, but I shall definitely disagree! We've stayed at every level of resort and each does have very nice views available - which, I promise, definitley can be seen even through a small value room window. View is very important to me no matter what level of resort. It is my vacation and our resort is equal to the parks for us. We keep the curtains open and enjoy the view - which is why we book the view we want at any resort or request it if not a bookable option, i.e. POP, lakeside. Doesn't matter if we are at the GF, FQ or POP - view matters for us. :thumbsup2

Kurby - at FQ I would make one request on your reservation: river view. Some blgs have better river views than others, but since you are checking in late, keep it general and if not available at check-in just ask if a move would be possible in the morning. Some of the nicest river views at FQ are in bldg 6 - and many of the king rooms are also corner rooms, so it's likely to be lovely. :)

Good luck - and have a fabulous trip! :goodvibes

ITA:thumbsup2 Unless you have that curtain open alot, ( when we are in it we like our privacy, and people have this thing with liking to look in rooms as they walk past, and we don't leave it open when out since you are basically advertising you are out of the room and left all your stuff in view) you just aren't going to see it.

Online check in will not help unfortunately. It does not even ask about room requests when you check in online. If you check in online and don't get what you want, you'll have to wait in another line to change.
