We would like to stay in a WL room with bunk beds, and we are wondering whether the bunk beds can be moved so that they are against the wall. Our younger son (he will turn 4 just before our trip) moves around a lot when sleeping, and even though he will be on the bottom bunk we are concerned that he could fall out of bed if both sides are open. We can bring our own bed rail for one side, but we would prefer not to have to bring two. If we can push the bunk beds against the wall, that will solve the problem. Does anyone know whether we would be able to move the bunk beds against the wall? Thanks for any replies!

It has been a while since we stayed in a room with bunk beds but when we did they were up against the wall.

We just came back from the WL lat Sat. Our 3 year old slept in the bottom bunk. We called housekeeping and they brought us 2 bed rails. I beleive that the bed rails were saftey first brand . They were made if small pvc piping and the centers were a white netting. Hows that for detail! ;) No worries because they provide them for you. They were very clean but I still wiped them down with a clorox wipe. You can have the request noted on your ressie. You could move the bunk beds but there is a light centered over the top of the top bunk that might get in the way. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask away. My kids are 3 and 5.
Tara

The bunk beds were about 2 feet from the wall when we visited.

We also just returned and I noticed that the legs of the bunk beds were secured to the flooring by an L-bracket. We did not try to move the beds. Not sure if Taratink tried to move the beds, but the safety rails sound like they should solve your problem. Have a magical trip! Cindy :flower:

Has he ever fallen out of bed before? All small kids move around a lot when they sleep, but they hardly ever fall out. Ever sleep with one? You end up with feet in your back and them laying across you. Most kids don't fall out of bed after sleeping in one for a while. My boys were 2 when I moved them to a twin bed and by 2 1/2 we removed the bed rails and they never fell out. You could always use sofa cushions(if there's a sofa), pillows and blankets on the floor next to the bed so if he does fall out, he would land on something relatively soft. Of use the bed rails they provide. At 4 he should be fine though.

The bunk beds at Wilderness Lodge are solid wood, to say they are heavy is a understatment they don't budge. But Tara is correct about the side rails.

Have a MAGICAL TRIP.

:earsgirl: We stayed there last week and had requested a room with bunk beds. We were not able to get them. Do not "build them " up to much just in case you get 2 queen beds like we did...many tears on check-in day. :confused3

Thanks to everyone for your replies. It sounds like Taratink's suggestion about requesting bed rails is probably the way to go. Our trip is not until September, and we are now about to move our son from a crib to a regular bed (he's very small for his age). He may be much more used to being in a regular bed by September when he turns 4, but we want to known our options just in case it's still a problem.

During the times that he has slept in a regular bed, one side has always been against a wall and we have always used a rail or pillows/cushions (and other assorted blockades) to keep him in bed. He moves around so much, that one time when he was in a sleeping bag he scooted all the way across the room and ended up underneath the bed we were in! We've tried all of the suggestions about keeping him in place, but we've pretty much shifted to keeping him safe rather than keeping him in place. We laugh about his sleep expeditions, and even he thinks it's funny when we talk to him about it during the day!

Thanks also to Spencer's Mom for the suggestion not to get them excited about bunk beds before knowing it we'll get them. We know that they are limited, and we have not and will not tell them that we are getting them. If we can get them, it will be a pleasant surprise. Just one more piece of magic at WDW!

The WL was a family friendly hotel. My young kids were very comfortable there. You made a great choice. Your kids will have a blast.
